City Bicycle Co... anyone?

1 Attachment(s)
I'm looking to eventually get a fixed gear, but I can't justify getting an ~$800 Steamroller right-right now.

So I've turned my attention to this City Bicycle Co., Type One (Type One (Steel)). It claims to be high tensile steel, which I understand tends to have some weight to it, but $200 for a complete bike, regardless of how quickly I'll have to replace/upgrade components, seems ok.

Despite the steel grade, I've heard that they're only about 22lbs.

So my question:

Do anyone on the forum have experience with this company? Why can I not find a review?

All comments, suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

TT, is that yours?

They look surprisingly nice for 200 dollars.

EDIT: nevermind, looked at their site.

Nope, but I do have a sweet Vilano.

^haha. I've got a friend with one of those.

I think everyone needs a 200 dollar beater to start on personally. You learn how to ride and see if you like it without investing a ton.
The same reason I didn't learn to play guitar on a Les Paul.

Thanks TT, I've seen all that already though. I wanted to hear from an owner or detractor.

Has your friend had anything to say about it?

I was referring to the Vilano. He seems to like his.
I learned to ride fixed on a Critical and was happy with it, and upgraded about 6 months later to a better bike. I don't regret the original purchase, let me decide if I liked riding without dropping 600-800 on a decent bike.

Ok, just read some overwhelming reasons to stay away from hi-tensile.

Thanks Scroddy.

+1

I'm still rocking a biker-style wallet chain like it's 1998. Otherwise, I'd lose my wallet 50 times a day.

But then how do you get into an aero position?

prooftheory 04-24-14 11:17 AM

Wallet goes in center jersey pocket on the bike, dude.

Yup. Keep your wallet close to your most valuable possession. Guaranteed to notice if someone is fishing around in that pocket. Not to mention rear pocket throws off spine alignment
