Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Modding a 13 Schwinn Cutter?

Hello there! I'm knew to the cycling scene, so please go easy on me if I sound a little ignorant at any point.

I was in the market for a bike to commute and found a brand new '13 Schwinn Cutter (specs here https://www.performancebike.com/bike...400317__400317) for a steal at a local bike shop. I want to upgrade a few parts, most notable the bars. The stem on the bike is proving difficult. It's a 25.4 wedge quill, and most of the bars I find that I like are size 26. Is there any reasonable way for me to update the stem to something that'll work for that size bullhorn bar and with the stock frame/fork? I'd like to avoid buying a new fork, but typical headsets need that extra length of fork tube coming out of the top of the head tube, and with the current stem I don't have that.

Thanks for your input!

Fyxation makes a bullhorn bar with a 25.4 clamp diameter: Amazon.com: Fyxation Rodeo Bullhorn Handle Bar, 40cm, Black: Sports & Outdoors

You'll likely need new brake levers, I think those bars use a 23.8mm clamp diameter for the brakes.

I think my brakes are that size, too. Thanks!
