    Gearing

    Hey all,

I'm about to change up my drivetrain for the city. Looking into new gearing. For longer rides I love my gear of 45x16. It's perfect. I'm thinking of maybe going for a lighter gear for the city. I'm a big fan of having a fast cadence. What would you all recommend? Should I stick with 45x16 or maybe go for 47x18? Any ideas?

If it were me I would honestly just go up to 17, I feel like 18 might be to spinny for you.

    What he said.
It's cheapest to just change a cog and adjust accordingly. If you keep an eye out you can find them for a dollar on Retrogression's site. I just ordered a 17 this morning.

God damn it. There's a thread with the same question 2 down. Can you not be bothered to even look? I wouldn't get any gearing at all because you are so lazy you wouldn't do a search or look at the "Start Here" sticky. This thread sucks.

OP, just get on your bike and ride it. If you think you'd like a different gear, do what it suggests in Uncle Sixty's Gearing Primer for Newbs and try it. It's not hard to change cogs and that is the ONLY way you'll ever find out if the new gear is better or not.
I had a good bike ... so I FIXED it
