Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Dunelt English Roadster 56cm Frameset

1959-1960 Dunelt English Roadster 56cm Frameset -- would love to hear more about this brand and what people think the frame set is worth. would it be difficult to build up? more importantly, would it be worth it? thanks

You'll probably get more help at the Classics & Vintage subforum.

It's likely to have odd-ball 1-3/8" x 26tpi bottom bracket thread and 1" x 26tpi steer tube thread, but other than that should be a pleasant ride.

We love English three speeds. If you build it up with 700C wheels and a Brooks leather saddle, you'll get a nice riding bicycle.

I've had a Raleigh Superbe and that still reigns as the Queen Of Utility Bicycles. Nothing today comes close to a venerable Raleigh as every day transportation.

Looks cool, have to wonder if it was originally flat black though... oxidized, perhaps?

I didn't pick up much but from what I did pick up it doesn't seem they were a highly sought after company. Good old Sheldon Brown didn't have anything of great note to say about them and usually he knows what is what. Most people seem to try to sell the complete bikes for just a bit more then a hundred dollars, so I wouldn't consider dropping $100 on that frame to be the best if you could potentially score a complete for not much more.

This is a nutty price for the frame. If you want a 3 speed, find a complete bike.
