I spend way too much money on food and drink myself. I've cut back these past couple months and being able to save or afford something I otherwise wouldn't.
--------
Back on topic, I think my enjoyment of pop culture/music makes me un-hip. It's not cool to know all the words to a Katy Perry song, but it will make everyone who isn't an ******* laugh, at least in disdain
There are other aspects of my personality that are hip, I think.

Lunch, during the workday, is a big place where money can be saved and lost. Preparing food at work is sooo much cheaper.
When out with gf and/or peeps, I try to make thrifty choices, but if I really want something, i'll let myself get it. I'm never stingy with tips or drinks; it's not my style. I usually won't go out if I can't without being cheap.

I sadly have friends that are juggalos. They like to joke around with it. I hate phycopathic records, and anybody related, especially icp, and their I'm Fifty Tyson Dr. Suess rhymes. I'm Goth. I mostly listen to rock and metal, like GuanoApes, The Birthday Masacre, Otep, Candlebox, just about anything rock related- rap, mostly MF DOOM.

Nooo! I have never been referred to as a hipster. A nerd, certainly.
I am on a slippery slope now.
I also drive a diesel VW, ride a touring bike, like coffee, drink craft beer. I do not listen to music (I will listen if someone else puts it on, but I do not actively seek out music), I did see Elton John and Billy Joel in concert! I listen to CBC/NPR. I wear loose clothes (when I have to wear clothes) since I have huge thighs, a booty and want more kids; usually dress pants (I find quite comfortable) and a button up, or dungarees. I wore flannel until the early 2000's, they were work clothes. No tattoos or mustache.
Except for the VW I got 3 years ago everything above has defined me for 10-15 years. I almost exceed the max arbitrary hipster age of 35.

The definition of 'hipster' is very fluid, but I disagree with the one posted in the article:
"Hipster is simply the notion that you think you’re better than other people – ANY other people."
By that definition, Donald Trump is a hipster.

By that definition I more than qualify as a hipster. In the conventional and colloquial ways I do not visually appear as a hipster.
This definition is more commonly related to being a pompous a**. Which I am more comfortable with than the hipster label.
What if you know you are better than most people?

Donald Trump is not a hipster.
To be a hipster, I think you need more than a certain attitude. It also implies certain types of interests, aesthetics, and activities.

I only look like a hipster when I'm on my bike for about 40 minutes during the day. FG/SS commuter, cycling cap, Ray Bans, messenger bag, rolled up right pant leg....But as soon as I get off my bike I walk into my office, get dressed in my work clothes, and look like a regular dude for 8 hours.
Also my tendencies are fairly non-hipster: cheap office coffee only out of necessity, full blown meat eater, I hate politics and Macs, mostly listen to 80's music, and I avoid PBR because it's not Bud Light.
BTW, I thought "hipster" meant that you exude self entitlement, unemployed but have money because of wealthy parents, and purposely doing things only because it's counter-culture/unique/attracts attention to yourself for being different.....

Hipster is just a word people used to describe people in style/fashionable/trend follower. Three or four years ago, a "hipster" was someone who wore a fedora and listened to awful folk music, now it's people wearing denim vests and all about doom/thrash and classic American tattoos. "Fixies"aren't even cool anymore in Portland.
Just do what you wanna do, regardless of labels.

No, I wouldn't. I saw Premium Rush, thought it was a cool
movie and made me think I should get back to basics. Never had much luck with multi gear bikes. Never had problems with SS's when I was a kid so I went out and bought one. It's currently in SS mode. Much happier now.
