What would I need to turn this into a single speed?

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What would I need to turn this into a single speed?

I got this bike for free and it is super lightweight and I need a single speed as I do not have one yet. I figured this one would make a great candidate. I would like to know what components you would recommend and what exactly I would need to make this a single speed?

It is a Viscount Aerospace and the death fork has already been replaced.

Thanks for the help!

Strip off the derailleurs and shifters, then either respace the axle for a usable SS chainline and redish the wheel to recenter the rim on the axle (usually not worth doing on older cheap wheels), or buy a singlespeed-specific wheel with 126mm spacing, and shorten your chain once the wheel is installed.

A potential idiosyncratic issue with the Viscount Aerospace is that it has a proprietary unthreaded, sealed bottom bracket: the bearing cartridges are pressed directly into the shell with a proprietary spindle with circlips fitted inside. Running a single ring on the inner plateau of a double crank usually gives a usable chainline, though.

That said, the Aerospace makes a nice fixed gear bike; I have one myself:

This came to me as a bare frame. No fork, bottom bracket, or even paint. I ended up reaming the shell and tapping Italian threads into it to use a regular threaded bottom bracket. That's a fairly big job if you have to pay someone else to do it, so it's probably worth your while to try and make the existing bottom bracket work.

Yeah, that's why I didn't bother mentioning the crankset. Just run your chain on the inner chainring, OP. You can get replacement cartridge bearings pretty easily. They just might be a pain to remove if they are rusted in to the frame like the last pair I replaced for someone. I dig your guidonette levers on that build, JD.
