130 or 144BCD Cranks for Pake Rum Runner?
Hey all,
Been reading the forum for a while, and learning a lot. I'm in the planning stages for building up a Rum Runner. However, I noticed that the Pake crankset is 130 BCD. I wonder if anyone can tell me if this frame has problems running 144BCD cranks. (i.e., Will the 144BCD cranks rub the chainstays, require longer BB spindle, cause chain alignment problems?)

Right. I just read that some frames have trouble accepting 144BCD cranks bg/c they were built for 130. Since Pake sells 130BCD cranks, I didn't know if anyone has experienced rubbing with a 144. (The stuff about longer spindle length was more related to misguided efforts to correct this...if it's even a problem.)

Got it. Thanks. The worry here was that longer spider arms on the 144 might rub the chainstay if the frame is designed only for 130.

Yeah, I wasn't paying attention, but I know there are Rum Runners in that thread with 144 bcd cranks.

Nope. Everyone knows The Rum Runner was specifically made for 130 bcd cranks.

Dudes and Dudettes, For the record, this is the post I read on another forum that prompted the question: bottom bracket issues - Page 2
Specifically, the line that reads: "My wife rides an Allegro Onya frame which comes off the shelf with, and I guess is built for, a really small BCD crankset -- ie a smaller spider. So with the 144 BCD miche cranks the spider is larger and comes closer to the chainstay as the stay angles out from the bottom bracket shell."

Yup, that doesn't make any amount of sense either.
You do realize that not all cranksets having a certain bcd are exactly the same, right? Some may be thicker than others. Some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers.
