+1

Comes in black or chrome too. Either would be perfect for his bike.

Carbon forks + upright bars = clash IMO.

He asked what fork I like, not which one would actually make sense for him to use.

But we are dealing with Heymathew here. The extra steps actually cause him problems.

I really do like that curved fork at Retrogression, though. And The Alpina 04 is nice, but I didn't realize until later that it wasn't drilled for a front brake. I really want a front brake as I ride SS some and also, the place where I live (Sumter, SC) has zero bike culture and I don't trust the drivers around here as far as I can throw them so I like having a brake on my bike in case some idiot decides to pull out in front of me or do some other stupid thing.

That's in the works, too. Actually, a new set of bullhorns will be coming along shortly along with bar tape.

What's so hard ? A straight legged carbon fork will look stupid on your bike. Remember, Scrod recommends what he likes, not what you like or need.

That settles that... The only solution is to get a curved steel fork for my current bike and build a second bike with a straight carbon fork.

Why no straps on your pedals? I couldn't see clips alone providing safe foot retention.

Those clips don't have a place for straps. They're nice and sturdy though and my foot locks in nicely.

Half-clips are not a good form of actual foot retention when riding fixed. In fact, they are pretty much useless.

Because I know you're going to argue with me, try pulling up on them as hard as you can and busting a big fat skid while riding fast. You'll see what I mean once you get up off the ground.

I've never tried skidding actually. But I can see where you're coming from without even trying it. To be perfectly honest I never even thought about it as I don't skid. I have some new pedals and fat foot straps on my wish list as the clips I have aren't super comfy. They work fine I guess but they're pretty much only good with certain tennis shoes. I guess new pedals and straps should be closer to the top of my list. Safety first, right?

Get a good set of pedals with clips and double straps before the fork. It sounds like the fork is just for looks, whereas good pedals are going to make riding a hell of a lot more fun for you.

Yeah... I think you're right. I'm looking at some over at Retrogression. Just gotta figure out which clips and straps to get. I had originally planned on some of those fat Velcro straps, but after a little research, I'm thinking about a more traditional clip/strap setup.

The cheap plastic all city clips work well for me. They don't screw up your shoes like steel ones and when they need to be replaced a set is 10 bucks.

Buy calipers first. That way you can measure your foot so you'll know which size pedals to buy.

Oh, so they make pedals in different sizes to fit different size feet ? I learn something new every day.

No, no, no... I think I need to measure the pedals to make sure they work with my chainstay dimensions.

I need calipers that will measure an oval cross-section, though.

I should just go back to walking.
