Are you OK? Sucks your frame is wrecked. Is the truck driver going to buy you a new one?

this doesn't sound good. sounds like you're okay though, which is the most important thing... but i know i'd be crushed if my bike met a diesely end. saw a motorcyclist injured on the street on bowery tonight. what can i say? be grateful you're not him.

Feel your pain. For me though, my 40 dollar 10spd needs a bit of wrecking to make room for a new bike

Oh damn! The bike, dude, the bike!!

Oh yeah, and are you straight? Does the 'buck give a working stiff any insurance?

Funny, I got a little lovetap myself tonight. I was going one way the wrong way, dude was in an F150 van running a red on a cross street. East meets west and pop, I'm on the ground.

Bent my drive side crank, wrecked my front rim, wobbled my rear a bit (I was able to true it up more or less) and tore my beautiful beautiful new(ish) blue Turbo. Dammit! I sustained minor damage, leaking fluids from a few locations, but it looked worse than it was. Felt pretty badass doing a CX carry into the T with blood running down my arm!

My man was clearly shaken up, white as a sheet and sweating like nobody's business. We're talking junky with the DT's. He was anxious to settle out of court, shall we say. Anyhow, he wouldn't exactly give me any info and given the circumstances, that may be for the best. He was pretty anxious to pay me off and kept saying, "Trust me, I'll call you tomorrow and we can meet up to pay anything else." So I got $100 that basically covers my damages (except my cracked up cell phone screen, argh!) and that's probably ok. Nothing sucks quite as much as when they cash your check at the karma bank. I know traffic laws are there for a reason, but I wanted to take a quick little 2-block shortcut. Really makes you feel like an idiot.

On the plus side I've been meaning to move my old Sakae road cranks over to my track frame to see how that feels versus the Bulletproof (not so much, apparently) BMX cranks. I haven't taken it out, but it looks good. The Q is so tight that I had to move my 47t ring to the outside of the spider to get a straight chain and keep it from rubbing the stay. Nice!

Anyhow, give us the word and post the pics. Dang, that Soma was a treat too!

I hope evertything is OK. I saw the remaining parts of your bike up on Craigslist this morning so I assume it's just your frame that is wrecked?

that sucks- that was a sweet bike.

was it a hit and run?

hope you came out of it ok- a new frame is cheap compared to a hospital stay.

Alexi,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you were'nt injured badly. Post pics of the busted bike when you can.

bostontrevor,

I'm also sorry to hear you and your bike got banged up. Quick question - Why would the driver pay you anything if you were going the wrong way on a one way? I'm not trying to stir up a ***** storm, just curious.

Because the first words out of my mouth after, "Are you ok?" were, "Well, I suppose we should exchange information." That got him spooked.

Dude was also running a red light, so it's not so cut and dried and I suspect he would have ended up bearing more than 1/2 of the liability. Some theories (all of which are pure speculation):

- He was operating a commercial vehicle without the appropriate insurance.
- There were irregularities with his license.
- He'd been drinking.
- He stopped to make sure I wasn't going to die on him (decent enough) but having established that, he wanted to get rid of me as quickly as possible so as to avoid any medical claims. I did a quick systems check and even though it was in the heat of the moment, my assessment of just some banged up elbows seems to have held up, so I was willing to play along. Besides, I got insurance if I really need a doc.
- And so on.

I tried to do things the right and honest way but he wanted to keep things under the table.

Ahh...I totally understand where you're coming from now.

That guy sounds like a nightmare! He shouldn't be on the road in the first place. Sounds like the police could have slapped ten violations on him (at least) and hauled him to jail for the night.

Given his state, I'm glad you weren't killed.

oh come on, everyone would rather pay for minor bike damage than file a report. although it is a little wack that he wouldn't give you his info

Mass is a no-fault state and the police won't get involved unless damages clear a certain amount which is higher than what my bicycle is worth.

I simply wanted to exchange information with the guy. Again, I don't know that any of my theories are correct but he definitely had no interest in exchanging info with me. I'd be willing to bet that at the very least he didn't want any record should I have any medical issues.

I did take down his plate number if I needed it. I figured if something showed up in the morning and I didn't get a friendly call from him, I report him to the police as fleeing the scene of an accident. But things seem fine. Just some scrapes and bruises.

Bikes: How'd I get this many?

I have a question...

I was just out riding and someone closed me out of the shoulder, went to turn right and didn't signal. I had to skid hard and still barely made it around his bumper on the left. As I went by I shoved in his mirror because there were cars flying by me on my left - I was between lanes - in order to not clip my bike and go down and to let the schmuck know he'd closed me out. I kept on riding. He came flying up behind me screaming and yelling that I'd broken his mirror. He was old so probably doesn't know sidemirrors have hinges these days. He proceded to chase me with his car trying to run me over.

If the police happened to show up, how do you think they would assess the situation? He was trying to seriously injure me so there was no way I was stopping to discuss damages. I don't like messing up other people's property, but then again, there are only so many times you can have your life threatened until you get upset. Plus, with the number of fellow riders on here who have been ******d...I don't think I'll be going to confession over this.

But...this is the Catch-22...I asserted my right to be on the road and let someone know they were driving dangerously...but this is the type of guy who will be at every town hall meeting until he dies saying how cylists are a menace to society.

Yeah, I came out straight. So Mr. Alexi, what's the full story?

nayr497, I can't say I don't sympathize or I wouldn't have done the same in your place. In fact I've tried to close someone's mirror myself though missed on the swing.

Ultimately I don't think the cops would get involved unless you damaged his mirror. They'd tell you both to calm down, maybe take statements, file a report and that'd be that. If you did wreck his mirror...well you're 100% fine, he's got a trashed mirror. You tell me who's in the wrong.

ok so i was biking down boylston about to turn on dartmouth, i was all the way to the left which is the lane with most double parked cars and delivery trucks and is usualy the safest. I was about 150 feet from the intersection when i the car infront of me to the right starts moving to the left without a signal pretty fast, their rear is prety close with my front wheel. I brake and the truck behind me clips my rear wheel as it shifts into the right lane sending me into the sidewalk, i hit the curb flying ass-over-tit still cliped in. I land on my shoulder, pretty much do a comando roll back up, laughing. Some people around me ask if i'm ok. The truck (a white delivery truck) just keeps going thru the intersection. I get up to get back on my bike go to clip in and noticed my wheel won't go straight, look down and realize my frame is f***ed. I walk down to the common to meet up with neg ghostrider.

Ouch. Real action star like there, buck-o. Glad to hear you're ok.

How's the shoulder? I tacoed a wheel last summer and landed on my shoulder and was sore for a good month or so. Probably some rotator cuff stuff.
