Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Is there a rear mount? Probably not but worth a shot in asking. I would much prefer a rear brake over a front just in case you jam it in a panic you are far less likely to go over the bars.

Yup, i could easily put a rear brake on but i had tried that on my last FG and didn't really care for how it felt. Always had a front brake on and liked it that way

Columbus track fork | Retrogression

It's light, it's clean, it's drilled for a brake. They come plugged but if you ask Scrod nicely I'm sure he'll take it out before shipping it.

this is terrible advice. read anything about braking from any reliable source and you will see that virtually all braking power comes from the front brake.

B b b but, you can grab too much brake and go flying over the bars.

That may be so, but wouldn't it make sense to apply stopping power to the rear wheel that is being powered vs the front wheel that is not? I run a front brake on both of mine, but have run a rear on a fixed gear before and I liked how smoothly it stopped. You get a lot less stopping power though.

I don't care much for the piling on that so often happens in this group, but in this case re TejanoTrackie's comment on TenSpeedV2's statement...x(or is it +?)1

Only complete idiots risk flying over the bars when using a front brake.

Right. ha

So Columbus fork is 43mm rake and both the Leader forks (@retro) are at 28mm.. More rake means less trail and less trail means more twitchy steering, correct?

No, the Columbus track fork at RG is 35mm rake, which is not enough to radically alter the handling. Less trail means less stability and more sloppy low speed handling.

Tough crowd here. I have thick skin though, so it doesn't bother me. I know how forums work, and I know what to expect. No, I am not trolling. Sorry to have pissed the regulars off.

Apart from everything else, I would assume that neither wheel is powered while you are braking....

Missed it in the interceding rear brake conversation. Neither fork is going to throw you off terribly but my leader fork has a really long atc which could bother some people.

My FTP in 09 was pretty good, not amazing, but pretty good nonetheless. I had only been riding for 2 years at that point, so I was still gaining power due to noob gains, but likely starting to plateau. I didn't have a PM then so it's hard to say.

Right now I'm sitting at 285w/160lb. My goal is to get below 155lb and over 300w for my FTP by the time racing starts in Feb.

Still haven't ridden this bike since I bought it which sucks, been way to busy with work and the holidays in addition to lack of funds.. Got some monies from my old man towards biking stuff so finally going to get the parts i need!

Here's what i'm thinkin so far:

Leader l803TR Fork
Cinelli Mash Bar
Sram 500 levers
Sram Apex calipers
Jagwire cable/housing

I do want to be able to actually take this bike on longer rides now and then so i think going the straight bar route would decrease the amount of positions available to me vs. bullhorn style..

So yeah.
