Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This is why I asked. I thought that was kind of a no no?

QR on a fixed gear is no problem in and of itself, but I guess some skewers don't have sufficient clamping power.

One trick that helps with QRs is to lube the ramps on the cam. This allows much smother operation and will afford higher clamping force for lower effort on the lever.

Modern external cam QRs were designed to be used with vertical dropouts that don't require a lot of clamping force. They typically have aluminum nuts that can strip if tightened too much. If you use an external cam QR with horizontal dropouts, at least replace the aluminum nut with a steel one. I tried using an external cam QR on my Soma Rush with my Wabi wheels, but kept pulling the rear wheel, and ended up using a Surly Tugnut. This option is not available with horizontal dropouts, however, so the best solution is to find an old internal cam QR which is designed to provide sufficient clamping force with horizontal dropouts.

^^ Ahh, that makes sense. I've only ever used older skewers that were made for horizontal dropouts.

@bananabacon I like either dark black, death black, or black black.

@jlafitte thank you man! Yeah on the 101, (well technically Vulcan). Near my house. Good place to stop and take pics.

I've since changed the pedals to Look Kēo Max 2. Very different, but I like the larger platform.

updates to the bike. now including front brake and 3T cockpit swindled for $40 from the take-off bin of the LBS I work at. Also traded a friend a couple jerseys and a set of SPDs for these MKS RX-1s. I did not know how uncomfortable they are.

It's a bummer but I'm glad they ended it before it got worn out. The finale was pretty great.

If you want more of Aziz Ansari (arguably one of the best parts of Parks & Rec), you should check out Master of None. Great series.

jacobversus, Dammit that is beautiful… I don't really need a fixie, but one will be surely in my future.

That black, with black, with a whole lot of blackness is just a sexy bike
