    '09 Fuji Track Pro Weight

    Hi,

New to the forums. I recently picked up an 09 FTP 56CM and I was wondering why the frame is so darn heavy. Not that I don't like the frame because of its weight, I LOVE the frame but I'm just curious as to why this type of aluminum weighs so much. Does anyone know the weight of the frame before the seatmast is cut? I just want to see if this right or not since its unusually heavy. Don't know how people have builds that weigh as less as 15 pounds when I feel like the frame itself weighs like 10 pounds.

Maybe the previous owner filled it with lead.

Is this just the frame that feels heavy, or is it the frame/fork/headset, etc.?

See link below for the 54cm version, looks like just the frame alone is 1200 grams or 2.64 pounds, the fork is 580 grams or 1.27 pounds. Frame and fork together 3.91 pounds, I'd imagine the 56cm version is supposed to weigh a touch more than that at 4 pounds. The full bike was about 16.6 pounds stock, all it would take to make it less than 15 is lighter wheels and tires.

2009 Fuji Track Pro Alloy Frameset 54cm Black

Just for reference, my full carbon frame (54cm) and fork together weighs about 3.4 pounds. If it really seems that heavy, it's possible it's a counterfeit. Or your frame of reference on normal bike weight is off. Put it on a scale.

    EDIT:
Just to frame your weight reference, (going into my other "interests" here), I'll provide a small anecdote. When I ask people how much a medieval sword weighs, most say something like "20 pounds" and say that they were pretty heavy. If you hand them a accurate reproduction of a medieval sword, they say, "whoa this is hefty". If you put it on a scale it's turns out the damn sword is 2.5 pounds, the weight of a MacBook Air, or 3 large bananas. Weight distribution and expectations play pretty large roles in how "heavy" we think things are. It may feel "hefty" in the hand, but you're not supposed to by lifting it around like luggage, you're ass is supposed to be on it while rolling.

A whole lot of people speak out of their ass when it comes to the weight of their bike....

Also, it depends on the size and how much of the seat mast you take off.
Better get a 48cm one and cut off all of the seat mast to maximize weight savings.

The whole frameset. Going to my LBS to weigh it. Very unusual since the stock FTP build weighs 16.6lbs....

Before I bought my frame, I did research on the parts I bought and how much each of them weigh. If i did my math correctly, my bike is supposed to weigh 16 pounds. I will be taking it to the shop to weigh it and see whats up.

How hard is it to weigh something?

The frame is unusually heavy. I owned the 61cm size briefly and it was 2260g (frame only, uncut ISP, including ISP topper, stripped of paint). Not sure the reason other than Fuji wanted it to be stiff, aero and not terribly expensive.

Cool, now go ride it. Your bike is just fine and you will be better off not worrying about the weight.

19 pounds is still pretty light bro. Post a pic of your bike, interested in what components you're running. The stock version came with a carbon fork and crank with aluminum components.

Anyways, mystery solved. That was fun wasn't it?
