Opinions on mid-priced options?

Hey, good afternoon everyone!

In the past year I have moved to the city from the suburbs, and instantly fell in love with the way of life. I wasn't getting much use from my downhil bike anymore, so I sold it and have been looking for a more city friendly ride. I am dead set on adding a fixie to my arsenal, I just don't know which one yet. Way too many choices lol. I came to you guys (and girls) for some wisdom!

I have it narrowed down to three brands, which are all pretty much identically priced and appear to have very much of the same features.
1) Pure fix- seemingly the crowd favorite for my price range
2) Zyclye- which I have been told are made and shipped from the same place as pure fix
3) Regal- made in my home city of Toronto. I always try to buy local when possible..

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully see you out there real soon lol

Best wishes,

Steve

The answer would be #kiloTT . Unfortunately, Canada. None of the bikes you list seem like good options. Torontoans often list a KHS Flight, Would that be a possibility for you?

Ideally, around $600. If I find something that I really like, I could go a little more.

Would you mind elaborating on why none of those are decent options? The pure fix bikes all have good reviews and a decent list of hardware considering the price point. Of them all, I am leaning towards a pure fix, which is why I ask.

what's a little more?

700 800? having a tight range of what you want to spend helps immensely. pure fix is pure poop. .... it's good quality run of the mill junk though. worth a bout $100 for their frame and forks imo. if you want to spend that much, you should consider it's resale value. most "fixies" don't have any value until you're they're a forgotten antique.

internet brands exist for business. they'll be long gone when they find something else trendy to make a buck off of.

The pure fix premium gets relatively good reviews. If you were going to get an original, I would save my money and buy a 6ku since they are reputed to be very similar but cheaper. I would still rather have a Kilo TT.

I wouldn't go over $700.

good reviews from people that would buy it to begin with. what's that say? =P get a bike w/ a recognized brand on the downtube. you'll appreciate it more, and so will others when you no longer do.

most of the renewed branded bikes should suffice.. micargi, motobecane, etc.

You're probably going to want to look at a Fuji, Masi Uno, or a KHS Flite 100. The loonie still stinks right now, so it'll be foolish to purchase online from a US site.

You have a ton of good LBS' in Toronto. Shop around.

Lol, this is true. I guess most of the reviews would be from first time fixie buyers such as myself. A.k.a not very knowledgeable.

A friend of mine is selling a complete Masi. He wasn't sure of the model name as he purchased it a year or two ago. Its an all black frame and says Masi on the seat tube and downtube. He said he paid around $900 incl. Tax, and is willing to sell it for $400 which I'm sure is negotiable. The only reason I haven't jumped on that is I kind want to start my own build as opposed to buying someone else's.

Hit the local bike shops. Take a few different bikes for test rides.

for $700 you should be buying something w/ an actual bicycle company behind it. if you'd rather spend $200-$300 for a decent working bike to just ride, then brands don't matter.

These trendy 6kU companies consist of an office, and a warehouse. that is it. good luck having any warranty, return, etc. honored.

It should say Tarck

I would look on Craigslist rather than get a low end frame with crappy parts that you're going to replace next year.

Don't know about Toronto but lots of people in NY spend a lot of fixed gears and then move on to the next trend or need money for inflated rents and ended up selling stuff on CL for a decent price. Might take a little more effort but I'd go this route rather than a low end complete. Will end up happier and spending less money in the end. Particularly if you hang out here.

Why not just get the one made where you live, since it's an option?

I am going to try and make it over ther eon the weekend. You are the third or fourth person who has recommended that shop. Have you been to the Toronto bike show in the past? Are there good deals? Used bikes?
