Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Injuries - show or tell [NSFW or the faint hearted]

show them battle wounds or exaggerate how it happened

was riding w/ a buddy in san fernando valley along the bike path just passed encino's velodrome. went to relax w/ no handed upon realization that i had just jumped over a ramp. landed into a tank slapper and was on the concrete before i could snatch the bars. apparently, two concrete slaps converged into a ramp. appeared smooth from afar due to concrete's lack of color from the bright sun). moral of the story. wear gloves =D

When I was like eight, I tried to check my chain tension while on the bike for some reason. No stitches just a sweet V scar.

lol, yesterday. 8 stitches under the bandage. I went down turning right onto Cahuenga, a bit too fast. I slid slightly on a pizza box, my pedal struck and I went down. The handlebars actually caught my sunglasses and popped out the lens which gave me the gash across my eyebrow.

turned out of my block to go to my exs house which was 2 blocks away at the time
get to the next block which is a 4 way stop sign, and a 83 year old man blows thru a stop sign and tbones me and i roll over the windshield like a jet li movie
guy didnt even know he hit anything till a woman in the park started screaming, and didnt even get out of his car to see if i was ok or anything, just sat there looking around like he was in traffic

27 year old gas tube bike frame was fine, front wheel trashed, and i had a scraped elbow from hitting the ground

given the time, moto gloves were a better choice than no gloves. nowadays the moto gloves no longer see motorless duty.

From my mountain biking days:

Riding on the local trail, had ridden this stunt a handful of time (picture was from a previous ride) and as I got to the end, I was too far to the left, so I figured I would just wheelie the bike off. Didn't realize the landing would be jacked. As I came down, the front wheel had nowhere to go, as I came down right in front of the support seen in the lower part of the picture. Wheel tacoed, I went OTB, and the bar hit me in the chest. Knocked the wind out of me, bleeding, jersey ripped and a few bruised ribs. Took me off the bike for a couple of months, and eventually I stopped mountain biking all together. The injury was like road rash, only it felt worse.

On the spot:

A few days later:

I was riding a Colnago a few sizes too big in my old Neighborhood in NJ. Got Tboned by some dickhead. I went flying and since then I have knee problems at the beginning of every season. Most Importantly the Colnago was fine and I Rode it home. The guy was driving the same car as me so my last thought was "****ing grey audi".

In the city I've been hit by cabs to no real damage and squeezed on by Bolt buses.

I've been very lucky in my encounters with wrecklessness.

Went down on a sandy corner while descending a mountain at 35 mph. Buddy said I was in a seizure for 20 min. Woke up getting lifted onto a stretcher into an ambulance which drove 1 mile down the mountain to a helicopter landing zone. They put me in the helicopter and I took a nice nap.

Ended up with a scratches, a headache, broken helmet, cracked my Ridley Noah, and EMS cut up and ruined my bibs and leg warmers.

subjective depending on the bike and how it's ridden. my other bike has bar tape if it matters...

overall it's ugly, deteriorates, and isn't fun to clean nor replace. road bars beg to be covered up, track bars are promiscuous felines.
