I need a new rear wheel for my SS - Any thoughts?

Hey guys

I've been enjoying the singlespeed way of life in the streets of Copenhagen this past year, and I want to upgrade the wheels on my ride for the soon to come spring and summer. I got the front wheel down, so no problems there, but I could really use some insight on a good rear wheel, preferably affordable on a student's budget (yes it's true, in Denmark you get paid to study, but still)

thoughts?

Thanks!

It got a quote from the local bike shop in Kolding at around 1000,- DKK for a complete rear wheel. It's with Halo track/freewheel hub, DT spokes and Mavic rim.

You should be able to find something similar in CPH.

Why not get one that matches the front wheel?

I have used the Mavic CXP22 rims with Origin 8 Hi-flange hubs and have found that wheel set to be a good combination.

What wheelset did you start out with ?

Started with some cheap beginner wheels, I don't even think I know their name actually. Think I'll give those mavics a try. Do you know a good reliable webshop where I can buy an Origin Hub?

Origin8 hubs are merely re-branded formula hubs which are great for the price. Not Phils for sure, but solid for the money. Laced to mavics its hard to go wrong with that combo.

You won't win any weight weenie contests but you will have a solid rim that runs smooth & true. Get the most spokes you can & put them in a cage match vs. an atom bomb.

True, but I think I will hold off on atom bomb match, just rough roads for now. I got them through my LBS and their distributed J&B, not bad for the price. Silver wheelset the first time, 2nd set coming will be black. One thing I felt was needed was cutting down on the number of stickers that were on the wheels. Left the Mavic logo and cxp22 but cleaned everything else off. Better looking.

I am using these right now on the SSFG bikes I have. Since moving to the coast, have seen no need to run multi geared.Wanted a backup set for my SS FG CX commuter and got these on some recommendations. No problems several months out.

Thanks for the inputs guys! I've got my hands on some original Mavic SUP Open Pro rims, think I'll give them a try.

Appreciate it!

What is the issue with your old wheels and how much are these new wheels going to fix that issue within a probably quite limited budget?

well, they were not 100% true, and they ate up my brakepads every 2 weeks. Hopefully the new wheels will fix that.
