Assault on Mt Mitchell - What R U Riding
The 2016 Assault on Mt Mitchell is around the corner. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm trying to decide what to ride this year. (I did it last year with the rainy assent up the mountain.)
Wheels, this is the one I am really struggling with right now. Last year I used my Shimano DA c50. I chose them for the aluminum breaking surface due to the forecast. this year, if the weather is going to be good I'm torn be tween the Zipp 303 Tubular and the Zipp 404 NSW clinchers. There is a noticeable weight difference (on the rim) between the options. I like the feel of the tubulars and the lighter weight. But, I like the ease of changing tubes if needed VS dealing with carrying a spare tubular.
So, thoughts on tubulars vs clinchers for a climbing century?
Bike options, I rode my Trek Domane last year. Wonderfull comfortable bike. This year I'll likely ride my Madone 9 for the aero benefits (first 75mi) as it has the ISO decoupler for comfort as well.

Well, how was it this year? Did you manage to miss the dog pile (pun intended) and draft off of Jimmie Johnson? I know one guy who rides those kind of rides, but he decided not to do Mt Mitchell this year for whatever reason.
