Kenilworth is full but there are plenty of rooms left in town This is going to be the biggest Labor Day Ride in a long time It's so exciting to be part of an event that is growing. Our club has done an outstanding job of improving this event.

2017 edition

I know that this is an old thread however I had a question or two about it and riding in a Tour/Fondo. Or what ever it's called. That last statement should let you know that I am new to cycling. I started in April and dug it so much that I went out and bought a new Domane. Since I work about 85% of the weekends of the year, I ride solo. On a paved trail. Never on active roads/streets. And I've never cycled in a group. I know there is etiquette involved. I'd like to enter the one day 24 mile race. They say that all experience levels are accepted. Yesterday I did 25 for the 1st time. Averaging 12.9 mph. I was about 95% out of gas by the end (it was also about 92 degrees at that time). I think I need to get my feet wet at some point and really give me some type of goal.

I've never dreamed that I'd enter an event. Is it too soon to try this? And -
Having never ridden in or with a group, would it be accepted by other riders for me to enter? I'd greatly appreciate any and all input. Positive and negative.

Thanks

I don't think there is any group out there that is going to shun a new rider. If all levels are welcome or it's a no-drop ride, they better hold to that policy or they will never get new riders. If I'm leading a group ride and have somebody new call me the night before, it gives me a chance to put a voice with a name, and put a mental place holder in for a new face. The ride leader should be doing a pre ride briefing anyway and asking any new riders if they have any questions (if I'm riding with the same people I did last week or yesterday, I'm likely to just hop on the bike and leave without much of a pre ride).

Now, if it's an actual race, that may be a different story.

Thanks for the info! And I should have said ride and not race (at least I don't think it's a race). I think I may save this one for next year as well and join the one in Lakewood Ranch in November. That one is closer to my house and seems a bit more casual.
