Did you ?

No, I didn't know about. If it is a race my tank wouldn't keep up. However I would be the tortoise!

That's cool to hear! Glad I'm not alone in J-ville.

Hey guys, just moved from the middle of Seattle to Sanford/Lake Mary, and I am damn depressed. I used to live on my bike, and now, its always driving wherever I go. Are any of you out here, or know of any group rides? I honestly dont care what kind; I do it all. road, mountain, bmx, trials. I just want to find some people to ride with and talk bikes.

Altamonte Springs, checking in. Next week I will be picking up my first bike in 15+ years. Ordered a Trek 8.4 DS.

I've been looking at various groups in CFL, and these guys appear to be the most active: http://floridafreewheelers.com/ffw/, but there are others that are easy enough to find with a quick google search. Not sure what group it is, but almost every Saturday morning that I'm out that way, I see a rather large group on S.R. 434 & Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs. I plan on joining the Florida Freewheelers once I pick up my bike and get comfortable on it.

Welcome to Florida, Ron, glad y'all got settled in without any problems. Hope the first rides go well. If you ever got up into NW Florida drop me a P.M. and we can take a ride along the beach or on the Blackwater RtR.

What bikes are you looking at? We can help you decide. :)

Trek 8.3 DS
Giant Roam 2

The roam has hydrolic brakes, where the trek doesn't. However the Trek LBS is literally 5min away versus 40 with the Giant dealer.

I'm about 90% sure I'm going with the Giant.

I'll be heading down to Deland/Orlando for a few days, and I'll be bringing my bike with me. Is there any decent riding in the area?
I'm looking forward to getting away from this miserable georgia weather!

RonH 02-02-14 04:29 PM

Here's a link on Orange Cycle's website. Probably the best shop in Orlando.
http://orangecycleorlando.com/articl...-florida-ig30/

And another link -- http://www.outdoortravels.com/biking...ew_orlando.php

Maybe others will post some more trail info.

Check the Florida freewheelers web site Lots of good rides listed

I generally only ride the trail once or twice per week, but do other rides as well.

RonH 02-08-14 07:37 AM

Glad to hear it. :thumb:

I just saw your post.
There is a whole bunch of good riding around the DeLand area.
Send me a PM if you get this before or while you are here.

Hey everyone! Inverness, FL checking in! I'm a noob to road cycling (1 week in!). Live around the corner from the Withlacoochee Trail, so far been riding daily 10+ miles at about 17 mph avg, thoroughly enjoying it!

RonH 03-03-14 03:30 PM

Welcome. Nice bike. Got pics?

JBerman 03-04-14 01:27 PM

I haven't taken any pics of the bike yet, but I will tonight! I was actually just changing my tube, and was a little surprised the old front/rear tubes were 650 in a 700 tire. I didn't realize they were interchangeable.

They're not interchangeable. Thats probably why you had a flat.

JBerman 03-04-14 08:14 PM

Heh, that makes sense then! I have no idea why the previous owner put them in there... I picked up some conti 700 20-25's @ 42mm. Is there any reason to get long vs short valve stems? My bike has the stock Alex Race 28's with stock Conti ultra sport tires. Thanks!

RonH 03-05-14 09:44 AM

Ultra Sport tires is what my Raleigh had when I bought it in 1999. Those tires offer no flat protection, just a comfortable ride.

They probably stock the longer valve stem to accommodate almost everyone. Both my bikes have 45mm? stems. I like it because there's plenty of stem for the pump head to grip when I'm inflating my tires.
