You got that right.

Also dogs... seems every ride I have an encounter with dogs. I can't sprint up hills

We've tentatively picked June 7 (Sunday) for an alleycat race in Huntsville. We'll be starting and finishing at Bicycles Etc. Plenty of food and refreshments and some nice prizes. Probably have some other events happening as well. Everyone welcome. $5 entrance fee but you'll get that back and then some.

When I get more details, I'll post them here.

Welcome smoke diver. You're a little south of most of us in this thread. B'ham myself. And I'd rather be in OB, too.

Thanks Bob, and believe me, I'd like to be living further north. Alabama is much nicer up towards B'ham and Huntsville.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alleycat_races

There's lots of youtube videos of alleycat races too. It's big amongst bike messengers from what I gather. I don't think there's any particular definition for an alleycat race but they usually seem to cut through cities and weave through traffic. It looks like a lot of fun but I'm definitely not on that skill level, nor do I have the cojones

I lived in Birmingham for 20 years, but now I am one of the fortunate souls who gets to live in Orange Beach year round............. the only bad thing about OB is that every Friday, about 7:00 PM, I begin to think ...... "I wish all these people would go home"..... ..(and I used to be one of the ones coming down every other weekend).
A bad day in OB is generally better than a good day in B'ham,.... but I do miss Saturday morning rides around the loop at Oak Mountain.

Hey, my favorite ride. I live 1 mile from the entrance, so I do the loop 2 to 3 times a week. Also take the cross bike up to Peavine every week. My wife's dad lives in Lillian and I've thought of taking a bike with me when we go down there. Any suggested routes?

My mom wants to know if you are attending the meetings for the proposed bike trail system in alabama?
listed here
https://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/02/...may_be_on.html

and here
https://www.dot.state.al.us/Docs/Bure...l+Programs.htm

Also if you all have contacted any of the other Birmingham bicycling groups like the wheelman. She is also willing to get flyers printed if you all make them to get more people to show up and give their opinions. You can also email something in to us and give your two cents on the first link in their comments

Auburn's a beautiful city. It is the only city in Alabama to be awarded the title of "bike friendly"

Hello from Jacksonville, AL, home of Jax State. I spend most of my time on the Ladiga Trail. about 20 miles a day, 4-6 times a week (weather permitting). If there's anyone in this area that would like to ride sometime just let me know. Gets boring by yourself.

Hello, luckystrike. Are you a member of the BBC or do any of dirtdog's rides? If so, let me know. We've got a few BF'ers on those.

Not yet Ex Pres, I'm pretty green on the road bike side. I've looked over BBC's site, are dirtdog's rides on the calender or something different? Something I would be interested in for sure.

Dirtdog has a Google group set up, with list server e-mail if you'd like to get on that as well.
A search for "Dirtdog cycling" should find it.
