The Huntsville Alleycat was a big success; I came in second yet again. Several new riders showed up for this one. We played some bike polo afterwards and went a bit upscale with the Yuengling(sp) beer.

For next month's race I'll have some faster road tires; cyclocross tires aren't the best for riding on the pavement.

Hello Southeasterners. Another Huntsville, Alabamian bitten by the riding bug here!

You were out there tonight right? I remember you from one of the BBC rides we did during the spring. So what did you think of it? I wasn't really feeling it tonight, I rode to and from the ride and think I was more worried about getting home than getting dropped. The ride home wasn't bad but I didn't push it too much either. Hope you enjoyed yourself and keep coming!

Thanks, bbattle. I'm a member and have led a couple of the Sat. rides, too. You must be faster than I am to be riding with the so-called Sunday Recovery Ride (at 18mph) group. I could only hope to be sucking a wheel on that one!

I'm a little skiddish about riding (especially alone) since the dog incident with my friend on July 4th, especially if the route is outside the city.

I was actually behind you at the start, due to us starting with that group that rode through. I was behind them before I realized they weren't part of the big group. Breaking into multiple groups would be great as there are different levels of riders and the multiple drop zones would allow for in and outs as needed.

I'll be riding this Saturday from Athens, the Elkmont/Cairo Hollow ride. Most likely stay with the 15-17mph group; they'll still probably up the pace a mile or two but the ride leader is good about not leaving people behind. If you ride, look for a yellow and orange Orbea.

alroadrider 07-12-07 01:11 PM

bbattle, if I make it to the Elkmont ride I'll be drooling over your Orbea! I'll be on a blue Trek 5000 WSD.

Was actually pretty comfy on my ride this afternoon, other than the headwinds that seemed to be both out and back...

Anyone go to the SCCC race weekend? I went on Sunday for the crits, raced in the 5's. I would like to have seen the Hill Climb/Time Trial, sounded like a BRUTAL ride...

Missed the SCCC weekend. One of the Juniors that often rides from BBC, Daniel T, is now the AL state RR Jr Champ from the race this weekend (although he finished 2nd in the race to a speeedster from TN).

May miss tonight's ride. Got someone coming to look at the dead XJS.

Is he the one that rides the Cannondale? I saw him, the one on the Cannondale at the crit and expected him to do well but there was a rider from another team, green and yellow kits on Orbea's, who shot off the front from the start and he had two teammates controlling the race behind him.

What about tomorrow nights ride at Barbers? I am hoping for lots of those before the B'ham Pepper Place Crit in Sept.

Hi, I live in Vestavia, and my wife and I are new to biking. The longest ride we have done so far is a 32 mile at my parent's place in east TN. It was pretty hilly. Anyway, I saw that the BBC has a century coming up on Sept 8th, and my wife and I were thinking about trying to do the half century. So you think this might be biting off too much? It seems like a fun event, and I look forward to meeting other bikers. I know there is the 31 mile option, but I want to do something I haven't done before. Does anyone know how hilly the route is other than what is says on the borchure? I hope we can see some of you out there:)

af2nr 07-31-07 07:04 PM

I have heard MANY good things about the BBC century and you may be able to get more route info on the club website. You should be able to crank out the half if you have made 32 in East TN.

I just had sinus polyp surgery today and was hoping to do the Pepper Place crit on the 8th but probably won't be able to do something like that so soon? If that's the case I may do the BBC ride. It really is bad timing having them both the same day...

I'm in LA- Dothan to be exact. Returning to the riding scene. I only have a MTB but am getting a road bike soon :)

Alleycat in Huntsville this Sunday (Aug. 11)

The start is at Star market at 5:30, race time is 6:00 sharp on Sunday evening.

The entrance fee is 5.00, proceeds will go to prize money and printing costs for our other pro-bike propaganda and maybe some beer for those who want to participate in the bike polo afterward at the recreations center/health dept. parking lot on Oakwood.

The finish will be at House of Brews.

Maps will again be given out at the start of the race.

Check the link below for other cool stuff plus maybe some "secrets of the route"

The Star Market grocery store is in the Five Points area of Huntsville, across from the best beer place in town, the BP gas station. House of Brews has a great selection of beer on tap. My wife and I ride there on Sundays for breakfast.

There is a good ride down there later this month, the Tri-States 100, here is the link, http://www.tristates100.com/

bbattle 08-13-07 08:33 AM

I won my first alleycat race!! Yeah! The theme of the race was "where's the bike rack?" as we visited several places in town that had no racks. I had a bit of luck to win this as I'm not the fastest on the bike. It was very, very hot so it paid to keep moving.

Great food prepared by the ride director's wife was served after the race. Along with plenty of beer.

Next month's race will have a new route planner so no telling where we'll end up. I'll post an announcement when I get one.
