There are still lots of rides in the Decatur area.
Check the SBL ride calendar.
Here are a few. Maybe you'll meet a few other BF locals at some of the rides.

Quote:
Valley Brook Backstretch [ recurring event ] 10:30 am (1E) Easy Moderate
Enjoy a 12 mile tour of North Dekalb neighborhoods while rolling along at conversational pace. Lunch follows at Meltons. Meet at Valley Brook Baptist Church. One block off Lawrenceville Hwy on North Valley Brook Road, just east of Home Depot. For more information, contact Mike Roper at 404-292-0212.

Old Freight Room Ride [ recurring event ] 2:00 pm (1E) Easy
Let's continue the tradition. An easy 11 mile ride through Avondale Estates and Decatur. Mainly on quiet residential streets. Special attention given to beginning riders. Leaves from the Old Freight Room at the corner of College Avenue and Candler Drive (one block from Decatur High School and Agnes Scott College). Afterwards the group will go to a local establishment for refreshments and socializing. Ride leaders are Harvey Whiteman, 404-377-5947, Sam Coney, 404-377-3615 and Lynne Rosner 404-378-2903..

New Wing Ding [ recurring event ] 10:30 am (1E) Moderate
Join Rick Cooley on this scenic neighborhood ride with 9 ,12 and 20 mi. options. A rolling ride along Residential streets. Good food and drink at the Country Cafe afterwards. Meet at DeKalb's W. B. Bryant Tech Center 2652 Lawrenceville Hwy. Decatur 30033. 1/2 mi. inside I 285 exit 38 Helmets required. For more information, contact Rick at 770-938-1056 or 678-468-5374.

Rick's Breakfast Ride [ recurring event ] 8:00 am (1E) Moderate
Wake up with Rick with this 25 to 30 mile ride from his home at 747 Livingstone Place, Decatur, 30030. Fuel up with breakfast at the mid point of the ride. Helmets required. For more information, contact Rick at 770-938-1056 or 678-468-5374.

Melton's App and Tap [ recurring event ] 6:30 pm (1E) Easy
Moderate Enjoy the most social and unusual SBL ride. Over the bridge, around the lake, through the woods, cemetery and seminary and park on the short (12) mile option. Need any more enticement? Then try the 19 mile long option. What a blast! All are welcome. Join this social group at Melton’s App and Tap after the ride. Meet in the parking lot for Melton’s at the corner of Scott Boulevard and North Decatur Road in Decatur. Head and tail lights are required from October through March. Helmets required at all times. No ride if raining. For more information, contact Mike, Larry or Joanne or call 770-309-1992, 404-636-7226 or 770-813-0044.

Decatur Wonderful Evening Ride [ recurring event ] 6:30 pm (1E) Moderate

Up The Hill Without A Pedal 10:00 am (1EDecatur) Moderate
Time for some cross training! Ride will leave from Meltons App and Tap – N. Decatur Rd and Scott Blvd 10:30 AM. Riding mostly on the path to Stone Mountain Park for a walk up the mountain. Casual pace 13 - 15 MPH. Bring appropriate shoes, the mountain is very steep and your bike shoes won't work. Lights are required, a flashlight for the mountain is required. A day-pack or messenger bag is a good idea. We will regroup at the base of the mountain and wait before heading up or back. For more information, contact Mike Sheehan or call 770-309-1992.

Jack's Tuesday Lunch Ride [ recurring event ] 9:30 am (1E) Moderate
Ride starts at 9:30 AM from the Northeast corner (on the Macys side behind Checkers) of the North Dekalb (Family Market Sq.) Mall parking lot. To get there from I-285 take the Stone Mountain Freeway exit (exit 39A) towards Decatur. Go 2/10 miles to the first exit (North Druid Hills Rd/Valley Brook Rd.). Keep right at the fork and go 1/10 miles to Lawrenceville Hwy 29 and turn left. Go 100 yards and turn right into the North Dekalb Mall parking lot (we meet on the right of where you entered the parking lot). We eat at one of the many restaurants in the Decatur area. So far we have eaten in more than 70 different restaurants. The ride is 22 to 25 miles to a restaurant in, or near, the downtown Decatur area and 3 to 5 miles back to the start. Average speed is 10 to 12 mph. Maps provided and slower riders/beginners are given special considerations. If it is raining or below 25 degrees, or if it is going to rain hard, we will NOT ride. However, we WILL still HAVE LUNCH. If Jack has your email address, he will send you an email the Thursday before the ride advising at which restaurant we will be eating. Jacks email address is jhgraves@bellsouth.net. For more information, visit our website Lunch Ride Photo Album, or contact Jack Graves or call 770-491-0991.

Awesome!! I know you'll enjoy it.

Wednesday (12/12) was my last day at work until January. Mike has the Georgia Tech students scheduled to work thru the holidays while they're out of school. I guess I'll go back to work on Jan 8(??).

If you bring the bike back for the post break-in check over on a Tuesday or Wednesday I'll finally get the chance to meet you.

I am new to atlanta, new to road bicycling, and new to this board. I live in cobb county and just bought an entry level Felt. It should get here by the end of the week and I'd love to meet some riding buddies in town! I used to race mountain bikes when I lived in Maine, then when I moved to Florida I got into BMX freestyle. Rode an S&M Dirtbike but sadly it's seen better days and I left it at my parent's when I moved up to Georgia. Nice to meet you all!

What part of Cobb? My fiancee lives in south Cobb (the Mableton area) so I know that area pretty well.

The best area for riding in the Atlanta area is Decatur/Tucker and I hope to be back there soon.

Hi Tommy,

Waddaya mean soon? What happened to the 8 year plan?
Just kidding. We'll all be glad to see you again.

Have you kept up with all the changes at ABC?

I have not seen the website, but will take a look. I have been in contact with Rebecca on a few issues, though. It seems that she has been a real shot in the arm to the organization.

Soon is a relative term. I really have no idea when I will be back there. As it looks right now, the project will continue through at least August. If that is the case, I plan to make an appearance in April.

andyscott, check out Atlanta Cycling in Vinings. It is literally just down the road from you. There are group rides all year round out of the shop and a really cool bunch of guys. Also, go to www.sadlebred.com for a list of the group rides each day. See you out there.

No locals responded so I moved the free shoes (Shimano M120G) to the Pay It Forward thread.

They may fit. Here's Shimano's sizing chart.

I'll hold them for you just in case they fit.

Some of the best people are at the Freight Room ride. There is a nice variety of riders there, so I would suggest that as a start. You can learn about all the other rides there, as well. Plus, it is right in your neighborhood. Check out the ride calendar at www.bikesbl.org for more information.

I hope to see you there when I make it back to the States.

Also the Melton's tuesday night ride and the CVS thursday night ride. Both require lights during the winter, but finish before dawn during the spring-fall. Great rides with riders of all speeds, so you'll find someone going your pace.

The ride to Stone Mountain is always a good one. Just follow the bike path from Decatur to Stone Mountain and do a few laps around the mtn while you're there.
On your way out and back you'll run into dozens of cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Hey Andy, welcome to Atlanta thread. I'm Set and I work near Dobbins Air Force Base, so I'm pretty close to you. I commute from Kennesaw to the base 12 miles one way everyday. There's a nice bike trail starting from Windy Hill/Atlanta Rd to Cobb Drive/Atlanta Rd. It's a good 3 miles stretch.

Since bikers are being listed as the endangered species in ATL, my fellow bikers at my work look out for each and as well for outsiders. I'll definitely let you know if there's a next group ride with my company. Maybe you could join up with us sometime in the future. Later.

Set aka H23NC,
