Clemson/Anderson, SC

So i know i posted in the Colorado thread earlier, but it turns out that the SO also got into Clemson University Grad School and has already been offered a lot of money etc to go there. She hasn't heard about the money situation from CSM, and visiting will decide it for her when it comes down to it, but it seems like there just might be a very good chance that i'll be in the Clemson/Anderson area.

Potentially going to be living in Anderson as there will most likely be more career opportunities for me, the housing is cheaper, and she doesn't mind a 20 min drive to grad-school.

So, i was wondering if anyone lived in the area could tell me what its like and about any clubs that they know of that ride in the area?

Thanks!

so, what brand of tractor is she bringing down to go to clem??

But seriously, depending on what she will be there for it can be a good school. And they have GREAT ice cream and bleu cheese made fresh on campus.

I grew up outside of Anderson, but have no idea what the bike scene is like there as at that time if it didn't involve a ball, I wasn't interested.

Greenville does have a VERY large bike crowd and may be close enough to clem that you could choose there instead.

I live in Greenville and the cycing community here is good. There are Tuesday night rides at the donaldson center, 5 min out of town. Good group rides on the weekends. Spartanburg has rides every day of the week almost. The roads north of clemson and anderson are great for riding.

I am going back to grad school in may in ME at either Clemson or more likely GT.

There is a Great Escape in Anderson - I am sure that they have some rides from there. I heard they just moved across the street into a much bigger store.

If that fails and you don't want to drive to the Big City of Greenville, the Greenwood Cycling Club is fairly active with rides most days of the week during Spring/Summer.

I'm doing the Ride for Life that starts in Seneca at the Crisis pregnancy center. I think we are riding from Seneca to Florida in three days. My brother in-law and I will be teaming up for the event.

Well its officially official. I'm moving to Clemson, SC with the SO. Hopefully i can find a job! First year out of college and all. And hopefully the bike scene is pretty good. I can imagine with how warm the weather is i should be able to ride most of the year. Earliest i'll be there is July i think.

I may be commuting to school from Greenville for my masters starting in May. Either that or Atlanta.

I know a few dedicated riders in Seneca/Clemson. My brother in-law rides with a crew. But a few train for triathlons and ironmans so they ride TT bikes a lot.

Yeah...i'm fat and out of shape right now. Those guys could probably kick my ass riding with one leg! The weather so far this year has been HORRIBLE! Can normally ride consistantly after Spring Break (2 weeks ago) but so far thats a negative. Hell, we're expecting snow this thursday! Which is odd since it was 70 yesterday and 70 today.... Hopefully SC will have more consistent weather then the crap we're having here this year. Gonna go out on a ride in 2 hours or so.

Well, some of the guys take most of the winter off (the bike). So don't get discouraged.

um, don't count on it. BUT, our inconsistent weather only means that today it will be 86 and this weekend, high will be 57.

There's a saying here that if you don't like the weather today, just give it 2 more and it will be completely different. (of course, that saying only holds true if it is cold and you want warm. In the summer, you'll get more warm than you really want)

Well i would rather have that then 70 degree weather yesterday, snow showers tomorrow, and 50 today! So while down there a cold front means 50 degree weather in April, it means snow showers here in Central PA. I get the feeling it rains a lot down in SC though right?

We get allot of afternoon thunderstorms in the summer (July and August), around 4 or 5 PM. They dont last long, but can screw up after work group rides.
