June 16 - A cloudy day in central VA

Just my third outdoor ride of the season -- I got a very late start this year. 62 miles, out-and-back, from Ashland up to Beaverdam, Virginia. I saw about a half-dozen other cyclists out on the road, but auto traffic was light. A few pictures from the ride...

Looks like a nice ride. Is the traffic light around Ashalnd? I live in Arlington and don't know anything about the area. What's a good resource for routes?

As I said looks lovely...

Yeah, generally very light once you get away from I-95 and Rt. 1.

It's fairly hilly out in western Hanover. My folks live in Mechanicsville and it's still somewhat hilly. I'd imagine western Hanover, Louisa, Caroline and western Goochland counties have some great, lightly traveled routes for Richmonders and Northern Virginians to cycle.

Here's a route that I mapped from lower Ashland up around Lake Anna and back. The pictures above come from portions of this route. I've done a shortened (75 mile) version of this ride, and it's really scenic. Just have to watch out for the RV's and boat trailers around the lake...
