Say hi next time you see me . I'll be riding a red, mid 90s Giordana and wearing a red jersey. Good luck.
That sounds like part of a few of my routes, but in reverse. I start in Franklin, get to Old Natchez > Temple > Sneed > Pasquo> Hwy 100 > Trace. And then I get off by Leiper's Fork and make my way back to Franklin. I have a a 35, and a couple of (just short of) 50 mile options that I ride frequently.

I'll look out for you on the road. I'll be riding this (sorry I couldn't resist - just got it Saturday) and probably have a yellow PI jersey w/ blue trim (unless I'm more bundled up )...

If you see me and I'm oblivious chase me down and say hi. I'm very friendly, but I might not look like it if I'm concentrating or suffering .

Do you ever ride with the Trace Bikes bunch? They have a Saturday ride. I have never joined them but they seem like a nice bunch of folks and I just may some time.

I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled. I think the combination of that bike and a yellow jersey will be hard to miss.

I never ride with the Trace people. I actually only ever ride with one other guy. You might know him actually. He's a younger guy (20- my age) named Ben who works at Harpeth Cycles. He rides a baby blue Sycip. I plan on building up a commuter bike when I return from Mexico in 6 months as, like I siad, I don't leisure ride very often.

Here's my ride. I'll be getting pedals and shoes very soon. Again, I'll have a red and black jersey on and a slate gray helmet.

I frequently see a guy on an old Schwinn whom drives a late 1980s red chevy nova. I have a blue late 80s vw jetta, and usually park at the entrance gate or the first parking lot on the right.

I'm from Tennessee!

I'm from the Pigeon Forge area, currently residing in Morristown. I ride my road bike to get around anywhere with pavement, and ride my mountain bike at Panther Creek Park. Take care.

Between Springhill and Columbia. I started this fall after many years off the bike. I am originally from the flat lands so I had the crankset changed to MTB on my old 531 db custom frame. And I do mean old. Built in the early 70's. It still has the old specialized tires on it but I am going to need to replace them shortly with some new 27" ers. These are getting hard to find if you want quality tires. I am 60 and only ride about 10 to 15 miles a day so far. The Holidays and weather has kept me off of the bike for a while but intend to get back on shortly.

I'm contemplating doing the road race and time trail for the Highland Rim Classic in McMinnville - Has anyone done this before?

I'd also like to say I'm very disappointed in the lack of road races in the immediate Nashville area...

Me too. I'm thinking about starting up this spring and getting the snot kicked out of me . Would prefer RRs over crits.

yeah, I have no interest crits.... I am interested in the uphill TT though... I'd even consider doing it on my mtb for the "wtf" factor. My dad did the Mt Washington hill-climb once.. it's 12% with a 22% finish line, 5200' over 7 miles...

speaking of hills, are there any good long hills in the nashville area? I've done repeats on the entrance to the 'trace... but something longer would be nice.

I've been on the nashvillecyclist site a few times and every time I've gone it's been really out of date, (checked it not too long ago, iirc) and also I attempted to get a login for the foums several times with no success, and even used the contact link on the page to email asking about login and did not get a reply. (this was early '08)

Yeah, looking at my GPS data for the climb on the entrance to the Trace, depending on where you start you can climb about 300' in 2.5 miles and there is one little level/downhill dip for an average of 2%. Or if you start beyond that spot you can get about 246' in 1.25 for an average of 4%. As you know there is probably a .25 mile stretch that gets a bit steeper. Doing the 1.25 miles 6-7 minutes (in the midst of a long ride - not hill repeat intensity) and the 2.6 probably 11 minutes or so (not hill repeat intensity). You can probably do it faster at either intensity level .

If you want to head towards Brentwood, a hill I have my eye on for hill repeats this year is on Lynwood Way. On the East side you get a .8 mile 300 ft climb for about 7%. On the West side it's about 350 ft over about a mile for about 7%. The majority of these climbs is at a pretty consistent 9% with a portion at 10+. In fact you could ride up one side down the other rinse and repeat. These will take me 6-8 minutes mid ride (again not at interval intensity). So these might make pretty good 5 minunte intervals.

While not as familiar with these...even further South in the Thompson Station/Spring Hill area there is Theta. It's on B Dodson Rd West of Thompsons Station. I don't think it's as long as Lynnwood but I remember some pretty steep grade readings on my Garmin while riding it in the Harpeth River Ride Century last June.

Also some of the roads between Leiper's Fork, Fernvale & Fairview have some pretty good grades. A stretch of S. Harpeth Rd. comes to mind. Agian, I only ride these occasionally and am not quite as familiar with them.

I don't know of any climbs with decent sustained grades much longer than a mile around here. If there are any I'd like to know too. Like I said above, I have my eye on the Lynwood hill for repeats this year. It helps that it's rideable from my house (about 7 - 8 miles or so) which would make a good warm up and cool down.

Hope this helps.

The Natchez Trace and the Lynwood Way climbs are my two toughest climbs. My girlfriend lives in Brentwood and I commute to her house on my 8spd and suffer up Lynwood way. It's one of those climbs where I talk to my legs. I can usually power up the majority of it but the top kicks my ass. The Natchez Trace climb is awesome and coming down it is a blast. The beginning of the Trace is about half a mile from my house.

It's cool to see the technical data. Thanks for that.

long hills are rare in middle TN

you can do loops of lynnwood, berry's chapel, and manley to get some nice hill repeats in

i would wait until they repave due to all the new water lines being put in.

closer to leipers fork...parkers branch, still house hollow/big east fork and waddell hollow have nice long hills.

I got bored and made list of [known] TN members. I have it saved as a .xls file but I can't post that here so I made a screenshot of it sorted by location. Some of these may be out-dated and I'm sure there are TN members not on this list but it's a start...

Here's your TBRA race schedule:

http://www.tbra.org/raceschedule.php

True not a lot of LONG climbs in Mid Tenn. I remember a long climb on the HOT 100 out of the Boro year before last. There is Microwave Hill which runs about a mile in Wilson Co.

BTW Ryan. I'm not in Nashville.

we should get together some time when the weather turns nicer... last year I was up there once or twice a week after work (usually ride from 6 till 730 or 8) and it was part of my saturday / sunday loops from the house (white bluff) Now that I have proper lights I might like try some evening runs up there too... that way the kids would be in bed and my hall pass from the Mrs would be easier.

I'll have to look into Lynwood way... it's a bit out of usual riding area though.

I'd love to meet some of you guys. I'm in Mexico right now but will be home March 1st and would love to ride. I've never done any large group rides as I like to ride by myself or with just a few people, but I'm open to anything. I'd like to get on the Trace at least two times a week when I get back. I found a great loop that starts on Temple Rd. goes down Old Natches, out to Leipers Fork and then onto the Trace and out onto Hwy 100. It's about 30 miles. I've yet to do it but have it on velo routes somewhere. Let's keep in touch and work something out.

Sounds like it could be fun. I need to focus on group riding this spring before I start any racing. I am usually just out solo and need to get more comfortable in a group. The scheduling is the hard part...

Hey everyone!
Name is Drew and I live in clarksville. I have been riding bikes my whole life but stopped for a few years and now that I am in college I ride whenever I can in my free time. I own a 2008 Specialized Hardrock Sport for the trails and am currently riding/working on my toy. Old school Murry Sebring that I found at a thrift store that I have been fixing up to ride on the road. I have just started road riding and hope to eventually race later on down the road.
