Ocala, FL Cycling
I'm going to be in Ocala for the next few weeks, and am going to have a bike with me. Does anybody know of any decent routes/nice roads/roads to avoid? I've already got a decent route planned to get back to Gainesville in case I get homesick.
I'll be on the southwest side of Ocala (right around where 200 and 484 intersect).
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Stop by Santos Bike Shop and talk with Steve DeRoche. Tell him I sent you, he can hook you up with the roadie element down there.
Take care, and have a happy holidays!

ps - if you get bored and are looking for some culture down in Marion County, go visit the Appleton Museum on E. Silver Springs Blvd. It's pretty decent.

If you follow 200 into Hernando, there you will find the Withlacoochee state trail. There are several organized rides per week on this trail. Some of them originate at the Suncoast Bike shop in Inverness. You can check at the shop for details. Also, you may want to look at the Citrus Cycling web site.

If you take 484 straight into Dunnellon, hang a left on hwy 41 and drive a couple miles on your right hand side you will see a little brown sign telling you to turn right for the Withlacoochee Trail. Follow the signs and you will be at the northern trail head. There is parking at this end while in Hernando you will have to park by the side of the road as there is no trailhead there. Either way, it is a nice place to ride. I live a mile off the trail and wouldn't know what to do if I had to move as I don't enjoy riding with cars much!

pull up a browser with motionbased.com, bikely.com, or mapmyride.com and it will pull several routes that you can use while there.
