NOLA bikes

Ok, now I know that there are tons of New Orleans cyclists. So, who are you guys and what do you ride? More importantly, where do you ride?

I'm one of them. I live and ride on the Westbank, but I get out there to Plan B almost every Saturday.

I moved to NOLA 8m ago. I live on the eastbank and commute 3-4 times a week to work on the westbank using the ferries. I mostly ride a 1972 Gitane with a flip-flop hub. Check out https://bikeproject.org/ at 501 Marigny st. Its a great place to help people, meet cyclists, and improve your wrenching skills.

If you want to explore the city on easy group rides, check out https://www.crescentcitycyclists.org/. I've done their weekend midmorning rides from City Park, 12-15mph, nice people.

The more competitive riding club is the https://www.neworleansbicycleclub.org/. Check out the routes link to see many of the popular places people ride in town. The Giro Rides at 7am sat and sunday along the lakefront from west end blvd are very fast. I did sunday ride and we avged 25-28 with sprints to 32mph. Very tough for me and my 36 year old singlespeed. Saturday ride is even faster.

There's even a velodrome in Baton Rouge if you want to try track.

Josh, here. I moved to NOLA 6 years ago. Got into cycling about a year ago. I commute every day from uptown to One Shell. I'm also a full-time student at UNO. My wife just got me, as a 30th birthday present, a 2008 Bianchi San Jose. Everything on it is still stock and I will keep it that way until inspiration strikes.
