Virginia crooked road ride

I was wondering if anyone is doing this ride. i can't figure out the lodging situation. I'M not up for camping, and it's not clear if you can stay at one hotel or if you move around through the week. Looks like a good time

I probably won't do it this year as it's an 8 hour drive for me to get there. Past years when it was closer I've done a day or two. Appears that Saturday will be a loop ride out of Bristol. If you arrive Friday, you would need accomodations for Fri night and Sat night Bristol. Monday you would travel from Bristol to Kingsport so you would spend Mon. night in Kingsport. Monday you would go from Kingsport to Abingdon, spending Mon night in Abingdon. Tues would be a loop ride out of Abingdon, spending Tues night in Abingdon also. Wed you would return to Bristol and either spend the night there or go home.

The tour offers all sorts of options. You can camp out at the sites which are usually school or university open fields, using your own gear of choosing their 'sherpa' option where they provide the tent set up for you. You can also use hotels or bed and breakfasts at each of the locations (they have shuttle buses to get you to the locations running on a pretty frequent schedule). Or, you can use a combination. They have shower setups at the tent citys where the rides start each day, and meals (if you choose to buy them) for dinner and breakfast are typically at the tent city. I haven't looked in detail at this year's tour but generally they set up at least one evening meal at some special location along the route. Lunches are along the routes, but generally there is so much food at the rest stops it doesn't seem right to each a full lunch so I have generally skipped them. Allen Turnbull is the organizer here in town and I know him and his wife well. If you need some specific question answered I would be happy to find out for you.

Thanks Bernie, Just would like to know what hotel(s) are most central and best to reserve. Army used up all the camping in me, so beds and showers are stay'O choice.
thanks
David
See you there Tulip. BTW I'M in Louisa County/Lake Anna, ever ride up this way??

Hotels fill up fast--there are hotels listed on the Bike Virginia website. Act soon or else you might end up camping.

No, I'm downtown Richmond and rarely get out to the 'burbs (I do my long rides on the coast on the weekends).

"burbs" and Louisa in the same sentence... funny. lucky to see a pickup truck/hour, let-alone tract housing around here; lots of cows and horses that give you stupid looks however.
Sounds like a good ride, think I'll start making reservations

Oh, I understand Louisa's pretty, it's just getting there that takes me through 'burbland. Can't stand that those 'burbs get in the way.
