Assault on the Carolinas? (3/29/08)

Has anyone here ridden this ride before?

Is anyone riding it this year?

Myself, my wife, and a couple friends are planning on driving over from Knox-Vegas to participate in the 60K portion of the ride. This will be my wife and I's first charity ride and we are both looking foward to it. I've been riding a bit over the winter so I feel like I'm in good enough shape to enjoy the ride even on my heavy hybrid bike. My wife has not been training quite so much and I worry that she won't be able to enjoy the ride but I think she'll make it to the finnish even if she's tired or hurting.

Maybe I can use this ride as leverage to convince my wife to let me buy a dropped bar road bike for future charity rides?

Anyone with comments to share about doing this ride in the past or planning on attending this year are welcome to chime in.

The website for the ride is simple enough:

Pedal on,
Ryan

I'll probably do the 100K if the weather is good that weekend. I've wanted to do this ride but always had something else to do that weekend. I'm free this year so hopefully it won't rain.

I'm almost done getting packed up and ready to head towards NC!

If anyone is participating in this ride and sees a fat guy on a brown Raleigh hybrid with lights/fenders/rack with a lady on a light purple Scott hybrid in 699th and 700th place in the pack- that'd be my wife and I. If the rain holds off it should be a nice ride but i have a feeling we'll be getting wet. I had the stomach flu on wednesday and thursday and that has zapped much of my energy so i hope I can still ride the 60K and have fun. Thank goodness for SAG wagons in case I can't.
