Did a group ride this morning, they did 30+ miles but I rode to the start from home, so I ended up doing 42 total. The wind was brutal! I was struggling to keep 9MPH against it, and was clipping 21MPH with it, spinning out in my top gear.

It was epic. Got buzzed by a couple of 18-wheelers carrying harvested sugar cane. At one point, I was 1/4 mile behing the group, and I manned up and caught them... everybody else was on 700C hybrids.

Hurray, it finally got warm enough (high 40s) and dry enough for a ride. Did my usual "cold day" 22 miler. Sure felt good getting out.

Tampa, Florida....bitter cold in the 30's....rode Monday, 12/13; Friday 12/17; and Sunday 12/19. Monday was the pits, managed 2 hrs; Friday was temperate, was able to wear just the cycling shorts with a pair of jean shorts on top and a short sleeved Henley, Sunday was very cold and damp, back to jacket and full fingered gloves and NorthFace watch cap...2 hrs to do 28 miles each ride. Sunday I stopped at the rest station around 4pm to use the men's room to pee, as I had drunk a whole bottle of Aqua di Neri Italian naturally carbonated Italian spring water before riding) only to find the restroom was locked (cold weather and the Italian water doing a number on my bladder)!!! Since there was a big football game that afternoon no one was around. County employees must've decided to head home early as the trail was deserted. The urge was incredibly intense (I'm 62) and there was no putting it back in the bottle. Luckily the place was deserted, so a palm tree over by the pavilion received some exotic mineralized hydration that afternoon.....man that felt good...

I've been such a wuss lately. Well and sick too. The temp has been cold with about 3 days of hard freeze, so I have very few miles in the past week or two with less than 100 miles last week.

Finally got out for a little bit of a longer ride today, 17 miles. It was about 47 F when I left. Did a variation on one of my regular loops to Decatur then towards downtown, then back home.

I have dressing for this temperature down. Perfectly comfortable the whole ride. Got a good tip when searching the forum for what to do with your cold weather mucous. Sorry, snot rockets are not something I'm going to do. Someone said they use terry wristbands as their wearable hanky. Perfect for when things get a little drippy.

Looks like temperatures are going to be reasonable for the next week or so. Got a bunch of time off before the end of the year so I'm going to try and get in a bunch of rides.

I was worried that my fitness had suffered from my lack of rides lately but it seems I didn't lose too much. Today was perfectly comfortable and easy. Whew! Starting from the beginning again would've sucked.

Just did a loop to the LBS and back to finally just buy the stinkin' tester saddle I've had forever. In my defense, I kept going back to see if they had the black ones in but they never did. Now that my butt is friends with this one, I decided to keep it. Plus the white isn't dirtying up like I thought it would. So that was about 11 miles and it's 45 F out, a temp I can handle no problem.

Yesterday I commuted to work. Only have to work one more day this year. Yay! It was 60 F for each leg of the commute. The roads were wet in the morning and it was overcast, but it was sunny and dry in the afternoon. My standard 18ish commute miles.

I did 22 cool miles today --- the new bike's maiden voyage. Not quite the same as my main ride but I like it. It's a keeper.

Did 15 nice miles today. The sun went down much faster than I'd have liked. Love this part of Miami; I was able to nicely nestle into the aerobars with no interruptions.

Had a nice ride with my daughter in ST Pete before Christmas dinner. Rode through downtown and then north to wards the Gandy bridge. The return 13 miles was into into a 20+ mph head wind on the way home. After dinner we took the Christmas light tour by bike. Traffic was very light and we got caught in a light rain, still a very good ride. Ended the day with 33+ miles.

Edit: Added photos
Christmas morning, SloSpokeTina with her new PI jersey, and some photos of our Christmas night light cruise to see the decorations

well, husband and I went to Jekyll Island in our rv for Christmas. Had great plans to ride all the trails. We didn't get in until almost 3 on Christmas day but did get a small ride in (just less than 10 miles). It was cool, but not bad. Unfortunately as soon as we got back it started raining, rained all night and was in the low 30s, misty and blowing 20+ mph in the AM. Checked the weather and it was going to be the same for the next several days. Checked the weather for Ocala and found that we were expected to be in the high 10s tonight. We decided to pack it up and head back home as we were concerned about our water pipes with no one home. I have off all this coming weeks so we're hoping the weather will improve so we can get some riding in.

I rode to the local Terrebonne Parish north library branch today, it's been closed for renovations for almost 2 years. And man, does it look fantastic! It's only about 6 miles from my house, on the most trashy roads in southern Louisiana... I think there's more gravel on Highway 24's shoulders than there is in most rock gardens.

Regardless, I got my library card, and I'm working on my second novel as I sit here. Maybe in an hour or so, I'll ride back home, and write some more after dinner.

Man, I tell you what, I can get used to this off-of-work vacation thing.

Totally with you there. Love, love, love not working but still collecting a paycheck. It's awesome!

Just got back from a 16.85 mi. loop. It was 44 F when I left and 46 F when I got back. It's amazing how much nicer a ride is when you get to sleep enough. Sadly pretty much all my commutes are on not enough sleep. :-(

Today I did something I've never done before. I took my old ipod shuffle on my ride. And it increased my riding enjoyment by 25%! And probably decreased safety by 40%. I wouldn't do it on busier rides, but for this loop that's mostly back roads and trails, it wasn't too bad. Plus I can still hear with the earbuds I use. Today's ride took me a few songs shy of the first two of The National's albums to complete.

Not too many other bikes out. The only one going my way passed me while I was riding along in my own Apartment Story video. They always pass me. Hopefully I wasn't acting too dorky. That's one of my favorite songs. Anyway, a mile or so further down the road and I pass him...with his bike upside down changing a tire. I stopped but he said he was all good. I kind of expected him to pass me again before I made it home, but somehow I was saved that embarrassment.

Yes, hubby's first ride on his road bike since his rotator cuff surgery. He's not supposed to be riding yet but you tell him that. We only did a little over 10 miles on the Withlachochee from Holder to Hernando and back. Weather was in the low 50s. Wasn't too bad but next time I will find something to put on my head under my helmet. My ears were about the only thing that were really cold.

Good to hear everybody checking in. I had a horrible (by my standards) ride back from the library... there's a stretch of highway 24 coming back that has NO shoulder, and the sidewalk drops off high curbs on some streets... plus today was trash day, and there were huge trash cans blocking the sidewalk... at one point, I swerved to miss a can, and literally fell into a hole made by garbage truck tires in the mud. It was horrible.

On the good side, the library is gorgeous, and the librarian said they had ordered a new bike rack, but it hadn't come in yet, so I had to chain up to a stair rail. I had an excellent visit, wrote about 2000 words on the book in 90 minutes. Hopefully I will get more done tonight.

Gosh darn it, BikeForums will be the death of me!

An adventure novel, I've got my first one done and out to proofreaders, this is my second. The first one is kind of steampunk, the second one is modern, about a hacker who did time and is trying to go straight, but get mixed up with his old friends again... and the CIA is trying to get him to rat them out. Should be interesting. Oh yeah, and he's a guitar player in a punk band.

Looks like an LG jersey to me.

Did a cool 22 miles today. Winter is killing me. My average speed is down along with my miles. I just can't ride fast when the air is cold, even though I'm not cold. Is it the layers or are my muscles just sluggish in the cool temps.

The new bike rides much nicer since I flipped the stem.

Well, I finally got out for a SHORT ride.... But like I used to say "A short ride is better than no ride"... Decided I would ride to the post office & hardware, that way I'm still working on the new PC room and shipping some stuff out. Only went 7.2 miles on the mountain bike... And yep I sure could tell I have not ridden in awhile... <sigh> PERFECT weather though..

Happy New Year everybody......
