Rode 21 miles yesterday in the 90 degree heat and 95% humidity. Almost bonked due to blood sugar and excessive heat. Perspiration did not evaporate so I poured cool water from my Polar Bottle on my head and neck to attempt to say cool. I can't wait for the temperature to cool off in November!

A view from the hot road:

Today’s ride:

Good ride today, out at 6:15 AM. to beat the heat (still hot and humid). San Sebastian to SWT, Met Dick Davidson at 7:15 and rode to Mandarin Estates then headed to Panera Bread for breakfast. I had a bagel sliced and toasted with butter and a Pepsi and refilled my bottles with ice and water. Did the usual ride through Heathrow then out to the horse farms. This was my third day of riding and the heat was taking its toll on my legs so it was a slow easy ride home. Below is a photo taken on today’s ride. I spotted the deer between two houses just enjoying themselves.

Statistics for: 08/13/2011

 Miles today: 53+
 Mileage this month August: 468+
 Mileage this year: 6668+ (83.3 % of my 2011 goal)
 Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 8,000: 1331 miles
 Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +12
 Over/under riding days Aug. 2011 vs. Aug. 2010: 0
 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +2264 miles
 Average miles per ride this month: 52
 Average miles per ride this year: 44+
 Average miles per month through July 2011: 885 miles
 Number of rides over 50 miles this month/total ride days this mo. 8/9
 Metric Centuries this month: 1 ( Metric Century = 100km = 62.2 miles)
 I surpassed last year’s total miles (6500) on 8/9/2011
 A 9/10 thousand mile year is not out of reach. I should reach my 2011 goal about mid October.

Went out with the Gainesville club's LowBees (14-16mph) group on the Windsor-Wacahoota Road loop - 43 miles . Substantial portions of the ride were accomplished at a somewhat more ambitious pace than stated - we were running 20-21mph for quite a while. Felt good, right up until the leg cramp right before the end of the ride. Typical conversation in the lead group, after burning along at about 18 for several miles:

"This is a hill; why are we accelerating up the hill?"
"Guess we haven't used up all the stupid yet."

Yep..... After about a week off the bike... For no other reasons than ITS HOT! , I'm a bum and busy working, in that order. Anyway.. got a ride in today in the MIDDLE of the day IN THE HEAT lol. Was 97 on the back porch when I left at about 3:30pm. Loaded up the panniers with packages for the post office. Thought the creaking noise was gone when I put the other seat back on.... but NOPE half way to the post office started again.... grrrrr. Adjusted the seat a bit... was good for another few miles then it started again... grrrrrr Anyway rode 19 miles. Put a frozen water bottle in the back behind my truck rack in a sock... It still had 1/4 ice in it when I got back almost 2hrs later. That was literally pretty cool.... considering its 97deg...

Rode about 30 miles till my rear derailleur broke and broke my chain. Luckily I flagged an older gentleman that gave me a ride the 7 miles that finished the loop back to my truck.

Yesterday the knee doc said I could finally get off the trainer and go outside so I did a slow and easy 22 miles today.

Yep got out for a short ride... Loaded up the panniers with books (weight simulation at its best LOL). Took my mom to the eye dock, knew she would need a ride home. The Palatka Lake Butler trail was only a few blocks from the eye doc. It is still kind of odd to me NOT going at the usual speed that I go. There aren't any big hills or anything on the trail but there are a few long'ish inclines. I could really feel the extra weight on the bike riding those. Especially into the wind on the way back to the doc office. I got about an hour ride in before I had to head back to pick her up. Stole the saddle off of the 29'er ..... So now it sits in the kitchen (yes bike in the kitchen LOL) with the saddle & pedals off of it... LOL But hey no noise from the seat now on the so called "tour" bike.... hahah.

HOT!!!

Yep.... About 26 miles a bit of rain a bit of sun a bit of rain.. Off and on the whole way. First ride in the rain with the fenders & rain covers on the panniers. Everything was dry... Not really any huge downpours. I was soaked though.... LOL Wasn't too hot until the last 3 miles when the sun came back out, and stayed out till I got home.

Took the Litespeed out today. First ride on it in 4 weeks. Did my "recovering from surgery" 22 mile ride. I think I'll up the mileage on Saturday and see how the knee responds.

My mountain bike sits alone and scared in the kitchen right now.... Robbed the saddle & the pedals for the touring bike. The mountain bike can have its pedals back now though... just haven't put them back on yet.... Kind of no point till I get another saddle LOL

Today was ride #3 since the knee doc said I could get outside again. I had planned on doing my regular route but that plan failed. We went out with friends last night and I didn't eat enough nor did I eat the right kind of food for riding. After a few miles I realized I didn't have enough energy/carb reserves so decided to alter my route.
Maybe I'll do better next time.

Yep.... I had plans of riding a bit further than I ended up riding.. But the heat just got to me. Ended up riding almost 20 miles with the loaded panniers. With a blazing average speed of 10.5mph... Seemed like there were clouds every place but where I was riding. Good ride though.

Stupid browser on the tablet ate my entry yesterday :-|

Anyhow, two days, two rides. Saturday saw the first ride of a new group in the club here - we're a "B" level group that sits in between our High Bs and Low Bs, call ourselves the B-17s for the pace we try to maintain. Went about 35 miles at about 17. Good ride, great turnout (20 people on 19 bikes - the couple on the tandem made a great target for chasing 'cause they just kept motoring on when we took our rest stops :-) ).

Sunday afternoon rode with my 17yo across town to Loften High; she was meeting her old morning Bible study group for a pre-school-year prayer meeting. I got her out there at her accustomed 18MPH pace (ugh ) then turned around and rode back home as hard as I could manage into the headwind. Good hard workout. I haven't felt this good on the bike in years. I'm loving having the girls on road bikes to motivate me to ride more/faster.

Did the ride to Stone Mtn today. Decided to try a lap around the mtn. Haven't done that since before the surgery. Struggled on the back half of the mtn. Partly because my breathing wasn't cooperating and partly because I didn't eat enough breakfast. Thank goodness for Hammer gels.
