Think we're staying off the mbs for awhile and out of the preserves as the mosquitos have been horrible. We just finished a new front porch for the front of the house and we can't even enjoy it yet.
I am with you.... My mountain bike will just be kitchen art for awhile... We rode the G.Ville trail the 4th... and stopped at the top of the big hill to wait on someone... Well that only lasted a minute when we decided we would rather wait out in the sun after the hill.... tooooo many mosquitos !!! And that was on the paved trail...

Did my usual 27.4 mile Stone Mtn route. I gotta start leaving earlier. It was way too hot to do a second lap around the mtn.

Yep.. Rode Wed.. I was about to go out the door wed evening heading to the trail when I got a call from Bill & wife. Ended up meeting them at the trail (I got there early and rode almost 10 miles before they showed up). We rode to the end of the trail and Bill & I decided to do the Tri county loop (loop at the end of the trail that goes through 3 counties and has some nice hills). We told his wife to just ride back a couple of miles to the trial side bench in Keystone. She misunderstood what we said and waited at the end of the trail instead. So we got done with the loop and had to ride bike to the end of the trail and get her. Long story short the last 4 or 5 miles we rode in the dark on the trail... LOL... Great ride though... nice cloud cover before it got dark. Kept the heat down a LOT.... I ended up with a bit over 35 miles...

Yep... Another evening ride... into dark!! This time we had some lights though.. About the last 8 miles of the trail we rode in the dark, but had some good light this time. Fun ride.. I've never really ridden on purpose at night... so it was kind of cool.... Ended up with about 26 miles...

Did a hot 31 miles today but I survived. I had the new shorter stem on the Felt and I like it. Its amazing what a difference 10mm can make.

Saturday - 14 miles from Inverness to Floral City and back on the Withlachochee. Nice breeze when we started but pretty hot by the time we got back. Ended up stopping in Floral City and had a nice conversation with the son of one of the major founders of that trail. We also have seen where they will be extending it north to Dunnellon. It actually made the Ocala paper a week or so ago. Just not sure when that will start.

Linda, don't spend too much time stopping in Floral City. You may find yourself wandering over to Sandy's House of Treats too often. Its about 100 feet south of the trailhead. When I was down there I probably stopped too many times and the selection is too tempting. The brownies and pie bites are GREAT!!

Got up all bound and determined to go forth conquering and to conquer on Saturday, but couldn't hack the nominal-17 (but-actually-20-plus-this-time ) pace. I ended up bailing on the club ride 20 miles in and more or less crawling home while trying to keep that last half-bottle of water down, a sweat-soaked monument to lack of mid-week miles perched atop a wobbly yellow bike. Gotta make myself get out and turn the cranks more during the week, I don't care HOW hot it is up here!

Did my last ride today. At least until after the doc says I can ride again. Maybe only a week off the bike.
I'm having cataract surgery on Thursday so nothing strenuous for a week.

Yep rode today (and also past sunday)... We started the ride at about 7:15pm today on the PLB trail. We planned for dark so we had lights ready to go. The night riding thing is kind of fun on the trail, don't think I would want to try it on the roads though. I do need to get a better light though If I want to do more night riding. Rode about 26 miles I think (forgot to check)... With the last 5 miles or so in the dark.

Fun ride....

good luck with the surgery. I've had both of mine done and it's a piece of cake. I could not believe the difference....mainly with colors being brighter. You should be back on the bike in no time.
Also, thanks...I think...for the piece of info on the place in Floral City. Sounds like somewhere I need to stay away from. I have enough problems with the Shamrock. Every so often hubby and I treat ourselves to a burger and brew there. Their burgers are the best but not something we do often.

Yep.... Rode Thrs & Fri .... Rode a bit over 20 miles on Thrs with bill on the PLB trail.. And Friday I rode the same ride by myself testing a new (cheap) handlebar flashlight mount that I got off of Amazon. I spent like 2hrs looking at reviews on Amazon the other day trying to figure out what bike light to buy. And the more I looked and read the more confused I got. I didn't want to drop $80 on a light that I didn't like. So while looking I found these ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00 .. I bought 2 of them thought I would give them a try. Just buy a BRIGHT flashlight and mount it and see what what I could see (literally). I put one on the road bike to do the test ride on the trail. The mount worked great. I don't know that I would use it on the mountain bike on any non-paved trails but on the road bike it worked really well. I bought an adjustable beam flash light that takes 4 aaa batteries. After messing with it for awhile I got it adjusted pretty nicely and it lit up the whole width of the trail. I might try 2 cheaper flashlights and see if that is any better than the one.... not so cheap light. But that was my plan.... just buy the flashlight mounts and if I didn't like a particular flashlight try another one... instead of getting stuck with an $80 or more light that I didn't like...

Anyway.... had a nice ride in the dark... (well last 5 miles in really dark)......

Jay,
passing the link on to hubby as we plan on doing some night riding when we head out on vacation next month. We have reservations at about 4 State Parks up in the panhandle and I'm planning now which trails we are going to hit.

We got out too late today. The heat really got to me. We only did about 11 miles on the Withlachochee and I was beat! Tomorrow we are getting out early....I hope.

Yep.... Got out and rode again today (solo). Did just a bit over 25 miles on the PLB trail and the trail up ST RD 21 north of Keystone. Made it back before dark this time. Rode at a pretty good pace (for me)... A bit tired when I got back to the truck... but great ride!!

Linda.... I think I'm going to pick up a couple cheaper flashlights this weekend and mount both of them on the bars and see how that compares to the one flashlight. I like the single adjustable beam light I got... but.. When you narrow it a bit, to focus the beam you get kind of a dark spot in the center... If narrow the beam a bit more the spot goes away, but then the lighted area is starting to get on the small side... Not sure about the battery life with the flashlight on HIGH... But took extra batteries with me just in case.

yep, finally got out early to the Gainesville/Hawthorne trail. Started on the Gainesville (hilly) side. Fist time I've attempted this since all the surgeries. Hills about did me in but I managed to make it up without stopping...ok...was going realllly slow and panting alot but I made it. Rode out about 6 miles and turned around. Hills didn't seem so bad on the way back, or just my imagination. Headed towards downtown Gainesville. We went as far a main street and turned around there. Overall about 15 miles and done before 11 AM. Probably won't get much riding in this coming week except spinning at the gym.

I'm glad to read that most of you are out riding and having fun. Glad you made it up the hills Linda.
It a sunny, cloudless day here and I'm sitting inside reading stuff on the computer and watching movies. No TdF because we don't have cable. But at least I can see things much clearer. No more "looking thru waxed paper". Those who have had cataract surgery know what I'm talking about.
I guess Thursday will be my first ride.

Ron, the thing I found amazing is how bright everything was afterwards. Guess I just never realized how bad mine were.

You'll be back on your bike in no time...just make sure you are wearing good sunglasses!!

Ron... Glad your surgery was a success.... With new eyes all of your rides will be new again....

Linda... Glad you made it up the hills.... Panting or not good job!!

Yep.... Did the Sunday evening ride on the PLB trail. I got there a bit early to ride a few miles before everybody else showed up. Two guys that haven't ridden with us before showed up.. Ummm much faster riders than me (us). So the whole ride was faster paced than the normal Sunday ride. We would keep up for awhile... fall back they would wait.. repeat... LOL Was fun though good workout enjoyed it. Had some food and good BS session after!!! I ended up riding almost 31 miles..

I did! Muggy and hot, but the sea breeze made up for it. Overall a rejuvenating ride that's been overdue for about a week. Cheers, all.

Yep... Just a shade under or over 30 miles I looked but can't remember... Doh! Rode from home and met up with a few people in town (10 miles away) rode for about 10 miles in town and then rode back home again. Really nice ride had a tailwind all the way into town... And by the time I rode home (just getting dark) the wind had died down to almost no wind. Great ride..

Wow! you are really getting the miles in! Good for you. Think that might be a good idea to try the Withlachochee Trail after work instead of the gym.
Anyway, 14 miles on the Withlachochee today from Inverness north to Hernando and then west on the county trail for awhile. Did a couple of side stops at a garage sale that hubby thought he saw something good at. Nope...Anyway, a first today for us...riding north and looking ahead and a guy is coming towards me on a bike. He's pretty far away and this is nothing unusual as this trail is very busy on the weekend. I notice his head is down and he's in the middle of the trail....he gets closer and his head is still down..closer and then I can see that he has his eyes shut! I cleared my throat and WOKE HIM UP! Are you kidding me? Unreal...he looked up to see me almost run off the trail to not run into him. He never said anything but he sure looked surprised. I just can't imagine falling asleep on the bike. Anyway, another first...always an adventure.

Wow..... that is strange.... I have done a LOT of paved trail riding over the years and never seen that one before. I have startled the crap out of a few people lost in thought or day dreaming but NEVER anybody asleep. The other day friends that I ride with were on the trail and came across somebody laying in the ditch along side the trail. They stopped, the guy was passed out drunk.. On the way back if he was still there they were going to call somebody.... But I guess he woke up and wandered home (or wherever)..

Its a lot harder to NOT go riding when somebody else is going.. So I find myself riding a bit more now. For the first 8 years of riding (as an adult) I mostly rode by myself. Or once in awhile with the 2 friends (that don't ride anymore at all).. But for the past few months I have been riding with a group from the local bike shop (and others)... So riding with people is still new and fun for me!!!

Might try 2 rides tomorrow... I have to drop off 2 laptops over by the flea market in the morning.. Might get a ride in then... And then later meet at the trail for the Sunday evening ride....

Yes, went over and rode the Withlacochee Bay Trail. The new portion was open so it ended up being about 13 miles. The new part has some nice hills and great views to the man made lake and the barge canal.
Left there and headed to Chiefland. We were going to ride the Nature Coast trail for awhie but it was just too hot by the time we got there. Decided on lunch @ BBQ Bill's instead.
