Got to the paved road (SW 80th Ave) and headed towards SR200. I really didn't think that there was that much traffic but boy was I wrong. Took a turn into a long winding road that leads to a retirement community and then headed back. Only about 8 miles overall. I just don't think I'll ever get used to riding in the road.
Sunday we decided to load up the bikes and head over to the Nature Coast trail. Started in Chiefland and rode to Fanning Springs and back. Just over 18 miles and a beautiful day. Sure wish this trail was closer. This week, since it gets dark so early, I'll be spinning at the gym until Friday.
Sounds like your getting some riding in too.. The weather is so awesome right now its hard not to go for a ride (although I didn't ride today... sigh).. And it is tough to get out sometimes before dark that's for sure. But I have been doing quite a bit of dark riding on the trail with friends.... Not so much fun by yourself out on the trail but with somebody its really kind of cool. Literally a bit cooler some nights (just got some shoe booties today to help keep my feet warm riding).

I agree.... I wish the Nature Coast Trail was closer to me too. I've only been over there one time, and didn't get to ride the whole thing (ran out of steam that day).

    I'M RIDING tomorrow...

Yep.. ... Night ride with 3 others.. We did about 18 miles. Pretty fun ride... But I need to get a better headlight. But with the 4 of us we had LOTS of light and lots of blinky lights on the back...

We were busy unpacking boxes (still unpacking???) and other pre-Christmas, getting ready for company activities so I left later than I wanted. Went to the Suncoast Trail since its the closest. Did 26.3 miles on the Litespeed. Felt tired and sluggish for the first half of the ride (heading south from US98 parking area) but felt great for the ride back to the car.

I gotta make time to go up to the Nature Coast Trail and maybe ride the entire length.

Woke up this morning with a sore throat... UGGGG Decided I would ride around G.ville awhile while waiting on somebody at a doctors appointment. Not feeling that well I decided to just do a test ride and come back to the car. I rode about 7 miles, felt good on the bike but when I got back to the car and stopped I didn't feel so good. So that was it... 7 miles.. Not a whole lot of fun urban riding in G.ville when your not used to it. I mean parts of G.vill are nice to ride... but tooo much traffic where I was... for me anyway...

Yep.. Rode Sunday... I asked one friend if he wanted to ride in Etoniah Creek State Forest... and conned 2 others into riding.. haha Both of the 2 I conned don't ride mountain bikes that much but have recently got into it a bit more. The one friend has been riding all of the "good" made for mountain bike trails in Florida. Not the trails in the state forest that are used by horses, bikes, hikers, trucks & stuff. These trails tend to be a bit more "beat up" and sandy. Both friends said they had fun... One said he would NOT ride that trail again. The other friend didn't really say, but he did say that was a LOT harder than the mountain bike trails that he has been riding. We did about 10 miles in the woods.. Then met up with 2 other people at the trail head in Grandin to do a road bike ride on the paved trail. I was feeling pretty good despite still getting over the cold/flu thing. Feeling pretty good until we did the loop around the lake. Like I said I was feeling good so I was attacking the hills around the lake. We finished the loop and were waiting up back at the trail for a couple of people and I started feeling really dizzy and shaking a bit. A half of bottle of Gatoraide and a few minutes later I was feeling good again.... Ended up with 23 miles on the road...... GREAT ride with great company and... perfect weather!!

I was watching the weather and clouds today but decided to try a quick ride on the Suncoast Trail. Didn't see any other riders (I wonder why??). Had my first flat in over a year. I think I ran over something crossing Rester Dr. I noticed that something just didn't feel right after I was about 1/4 mile past the crossing. Of course it was the rear tire. Took off the wheel and quickly found a tiny nail?? in the tire. Took about 10 minutes to swap out the tube and inflate (CO2).
Since the sky was getting darker and I didn't have another tube (just in case) I decided to turn around and head back to the car.
As I got back on the bike and started pedaling it started to sprinkle and only got harder all the way to the car.
Rode a total of 22.6 miles.

Rode Tuesday... I think 12 of us did the "bike n eat" thing. A bit over half of the ride was after it had got dark. It was kind of cool being with a group of 12 riding at night. I think we ended up riding 18.5 miles. The weather was great!! Rain to the north & south of us, it left us alone right in the middle. Not so lucky today ... rain & drizzle all day long...

Yep.... Got done working about 2pm and decided it was time to get out and go for a ride... Loaded up the bike and went to the trail head in Grandin. Rode into Keystone Heights and then up to Gold Head State Park. I had a pretty strong headwind the whole 6 miles or so up to Gold Head from Keystone. But today I didn't look at is as a pain in the A$$ ... I looked at it as a challenge!! I really enjoyed the whole ride, even the part into the headwind on the hills. Really enjoyed the 6 miles of tailwind back to Keystone!! Ended up riding 27.35 miles... Got back just before It got dark..

Yep... I rode yesterday. A friend and I went the the G.ville Hawthorne trail. He is kind of a new rider and had never been there before. We started at the Hawthorne end at about 9:30 am. I was debating on weather to put something on with long sleeves, it was still a bit chilly. I was really glad I decided NOT to, it warmed up nicely. I decided to let him set the pace and just ride... He set a pretty good pace on the way out... about the same as I would ride solo. He was doing great until we hit the hills towards the Glville end. He has almost no experience with hills yet so they gave him a bit of trouble but he pushed on through!!! We turned around and hit the hills again.... He did did good but after the hills this time his pace started to slow. He said his knees started bothering him. He did WAY BETTER than I did the first time I rode the whole trail. He loved the ride.... Great ride... good company.... about 30.40 miles.. Ohhh PERFECT weather too.... about 77deg at the bank on the way home...

hadn't been out since last weekend. We decided to take the mbs out to Pruitt Trailhead off of 484 near Dunnellon.

We rode from there to SR 200 and back. Just over 12 miles. The first mile or so was really rough going. Lots of sand and pretty torn up from the horses. But, once we got past that area, it was great. We rode through the diggings area of the Cross Fl Barge canal. We only saw one deer but did see lots of areas that had been rutted up from wild hogs. Other than that, it was very quiet and the weather was great. On the way back hubby decided to take a side trail to bypass all the sand. I noticed that there were some orange markings but it seemed overgrown. After we made our way north and then west, we realized we were on a foot trail. In fact, it turns out that we were on the Florida Trail...oopsy. Luckily we made it back to the regular trail without running into any hikers. We also managed to get not have to go through any more of the really bad sandy areas. Overall, nice ride. Next week we are planning on taking the rv over to Cedar Key and getting in some bike riding over there.

Linda..... Once in awhile when I run into a hiker on the Florida Trail they have always been really friendly. I actually met 2 hikers in the middle of the swamp in Rice Creek on the boardwalk. They saw me with my bike up on the back wheel walking it across the boardwalk. They were really friendly and actually climbed over the side a bit so that I could get by with my bike

Yep.... I rode today... Went to the trail earlier than the usual time and met some friends.. Got about 15 mines in by the time my other friend got there. So we set out and caught back up to the first 2 friends... We were all riding together when Mariana's left pedal came all the way off of her bike.. it actually fell off while she was coasting down a small hill. And naturally her bike was the only bike that you could not put the pedal back with an allen wrench.... We were riding in a neighborhood at the end of the paved section of trail (just to get some more miles in) so there were houses around. Dana rode off to find a wrench while we took a pedal off of another bike threaded it back on her bike using an allen wrench (to clean the threads a bit). Dana came back with a little crescent wrench... Put the pedals back on.... and we were off.... Actually turned out to be a great ride!!! We all had fun and something to talk about when we got done... Ended up riding 44.5 miles... Which put me over 100 miles for the weekend... A lot for me.... not much fore some

Got the Litespeed all fixed up yesterday. It hasn't been out of the garage for 2 weeks because I haven't taken the time to fix the little things that needed repair/adjusting.
Took it on a 32.3 mile ride on the Suncoast Trail today and got a good pre-birthday workout. Saw plenty of cyclists -- some were walking up the hills.

Yep. rode Monday... There were just 3 of us on the last minute decide to go for a ride, ride.. We didn't even start till after 6pm, so the whole ride was in the dark. We decided to try a new route from the shop. The one friend we were riding with his wife was playing tennis at the high school with friends. We decided to ride over there and say HI .. What they didn't tell me was how bad the speed bumps were leading in to the high school. I hit the first one going WAY TOO FAST. Had to stop when I about lost my water bottle. I even made the comment... "Wow I'm glad I have the 32 spoke rims now"... Well about 5 miles from the shop I hear POP.... I was like crap.. Stopped and sure enough I had a busted spoke. A month ago when I busted 2 spokes I got chewed out for not checking them and mostly for not bringing the bike back in to have the spokes checked after putting a 100 miles on the new rims. This time no chewing out... He blamed the speed bump... But at least with 32 spokes I was able to ride back to the shop..... Left the bike there to be fixed today.... Tried telling him "you don't have to fix it today"... He said "I'm fixing it... you not getting out of riding Tuesday".... hahah..... We ended up riding about 21 miles .... Great ride.... great weather again for mid December...

Yep... Fast paced (for me) 16 mile night ride with a couple of friends.... A bit colder than last night but still awesome weather for December in FL.. Supposed to get quite a bit colder in the next couple of days though.... On the plus side found a brand new pair of Pearl Izumi shoe covers yesterday at Goodwill ... for 10 bucks..... Still had the $50 price tag on them.. Was funny the lady at the counter was like "what the heck are those"...

Got out into the wind today. Had a headwind all the way down the Suncoast Trail from the US98 trailhead to the SR50 trailhead. Stopped there and rested, had a snack, and filled my water bottle. Headed back and my speed at some points was over 25 mph -- thanks to the tailwind. Saw 3 other riders braving the winds.
Rode a total of 25.4 miles.

My short ride to work on the city bike was mad windy -- mostly headwind but I got blown sideways a little once or twice! I'm hoping that means mostly tailwind going home, but somehow it rarely works out that way.

Speaking of wind, if y'all haven't seen this, it's worth checking out. Cool realtime graphical look at wind conditions across the U.S. http://hint.fm/wind/

Sunday I took my first trip down to Santos with 3 friends. Dave rented a bike at the shop right across from the trail head parking lot. The one just off of 441. He has been down there several times and rented bikes from the other shop. He is looking to buy a bike and wanted to ride a few different ones. He had rented a couple of different Giants from the other shop (29'ers). Sunday he rented a GT. He is a bit on the short side, it has been tough for him to find a bike that fits him. (29'er wise that is). We had an AWESOME day on the trails. We ended up riding out to the land bridge and back. With some detours on the way and back. We checked out the vortex ... with all those crazy jumps and things that I would NEVER NEVER NEVER ever do... EVER... We road the bunny trail (which is a blue trail, medium hard trail I guess?) I really really liked the layout of the bunny trail!! We also rode on Dr. Ruth (that just sounds wrong) lol.... Dave got back and ordered the same bike that he had rode, only with upgraded components from our friend that owns Palatka Bicycles... We ended up riding a bit over 23 miles.. And then the next day my GoPro came back from being replaced..... Good excuse to go again.... hahah

Rode with 2 friends today on the road bike out near Satsuma... Had a great ride..... about 22 miles...

The Wife and I hit the Cross Seminole Trail today. We live outside of Oviedo, and rode into town to pick it up. It drizzled while we waited at a long light. We kept on going, and about 3 miles up the trail it started to rain. A quick break for water and we headed out into the fray....

Another few miles down is a bridge over a local road. I was feeling poorly, but rode up it anyway. Bad move: Triggered an ashtma attack...which stopped me on the bridge as the bottom fell out of the sky....;>! So we headed towards home....but changed our minds a mile later and turned back to our original end goal.

We made our goal, and actually added a couple of miles because of turning back and forth. From pouring rain, to breaking sunlight...it was all awesome! Most of the day we had the whole trail to ourselves. At home, the bikes enjoyed all the attention I gave them as I cleaned them up and waxed them out to take care of them after their day of fun in the rain....

Our Christmas company left yesterday so I had to get out after all the eating for the last 4 days.
It was cold so needed the extra layers, vest, ff gloves, etc. I was surprised to see so many folks out riding on the Suncoast Trail.
Rode from US98 to the SR50 trailhead. Got more water and headed back to the car for a total of 25.3 miles.

cold! but took the mbs over to Felburn Park at the Withlachochee Bay Trail. Rode the east side of the paved trail and then decided to take the birding trail around the lake. Last time we were there it was too sandy. But, with the recent rains, it was much easier to ride. The property is about 140 acres and the trail goes around a large man made lake. Years ago this was a limerock mining area and the east side of the lake has a huge hill with a kiosk and bench at the top. Very interesting ride. Not long, only about 6 miles but some good hill climbing. The picture below shows the birding trail in purple.

This is a view from the top of the hill overlooking the lake. I didn't take it but it shows how high the hill really is. Felburn park rock pit.jpg

Several days ago we were in Flagler Beach and did manage to ride the Lehigh paved trail. Luckily we were pretty bundled up as it was cold and windy and fortunately it was a short trail. We also rode our bikes around the trails at the state park. Sounds like tomorrow will be warmer so we'll probably head down to Inverness and ride the Withlachochee.

I'm in South Florida at a retreat until tomorrow. Got the roadie back up and running with a new rear wheel after losing the rusty old rim to a tube blowout and did an 11-mile round trip ride through Homestead to check out a farmers market on Saturday. I love exploring new places by bike. Other than that, I've not ridden all week and I feel like my legs are going to fall off for lack of use. I did go on a nice moonlight canoe trip last night, though!

It's New Years Eve day and I had to get out to end the old year right. Took the Litespeed out for a spin on the Suncoast Trail. There were a lot of folks out riding. I guess they had the same thoughts as me.
Did a total of 32.7 miles to round out the year.

I guess I'll start the new year right by riding tomorrow. Probably try the Withlacoochee Trail.
