just shy of 42 miles w/ the trace bikes sat morning group ride.

Gavush 08-17-08 08:02 AM

overslept - had to forgo the usual longer ride and go w/ a 28.2 loop from home & through 2 neighboring towns, several long uphills resulting in a 17.3 avg

Wife and I rode our first 200k brevet yesterday on our tandem ..... in August, in Florida! Actually, 128 miles total.

Just did 15 miles of the LOViT (Lake Ouachita Vista Trail) this weekend. I was trying out some more aggressive tires and HATE THEM! Not enough roll for what I'm doing. They will be changed out tonight, back to the Hutches.

On a more positive note, the LOViT is awesome. Beautiful rollers, views and close by the Womble. Man the cycling is getting better and better in Arkansas.

friday, 8/15: 17mi, 2400+/- climbing (all climbing in first half of ride - up to Waterrock Knob)
saturday, 8/16: 45mi with bwnc, Road to Nowhere, ~2500' climbing
sunday, 8/17: 60mi, with bwnc & a couple more local guys, Tour de Tuck recon, 6000+ climbing.

natches trace, 38 miles in 1 hr, 58 minutes and change. Started out thinking I would do the usual 28 ride... then decided since I did it in less than an hour and a half last time... I should use up all the daylight I had, estimated about 2 hours - decided I could avg 18 for 2 hours, and set that as a goal... on the way out I was a bit relaxed, really had to put the hammer down on the way back, got into a nice groove after mile 25 or so... was able to salvage the avg and make it back to the car in time. Turns out I actually had only an hour and a half of daylight. It was pretty hard to read my cyclometer when I got back to the car... I did have my tail light with me or I wouldn't have tried to stretch the time. I thought I would be cutting it close.... However, the temperature and humidity was exceptional. (was 91 when I left work at 5pm) also - at one point on the way out I had to yield to a skunk crossing the road. Also saw the usual deer and wild turkeys.

Yes. I did a new route today. Well, I had previously ridden over most of the distance traveled, but not in today's combination. Adventuresome! Some good, countryesque riding not far from downtown. I shall ride there again.

Just figured it was appropiate to quote :) So far as it goes I did take a ride today but nothing spectacular maybe 20 miles or so up a hilly area on the outskirts of town it felt good to get out there and pedal and the climbs made it all that much more enjoyable. Saw a couple runners probably high school kids going at a good pace. To improve upon it I believe it was their coach saw me climbing on my Giant Rincon and Complimented me it was awesome. To consider someone who I had no idea about whatsoever would take the time to say well done and keep climbing really made my day.

Hey WP,

Are you, by chance, doing the Tour De Gaps ride tomorrow, up in Mt Airy,NC?

...just curious, as I think I read where you (also) did the Roan Moan & BRB100 rides.

Oh, and for the record, so far as the actual thread topic goes - No, I did not ride today:giver:. I normally do 45 miles (during the week) on my trainer, but I quit for the remainder of the week following my Wednesday morning 15 miles (I do the other 30 in the evenings), to give my legs a break for the ride this weekend.

I guess if I don't see you at this ride, I'm sure we'll be doing the same (century) ride here in the near future. Are you doing B2B? I am. I expect that'll be a challenge. *chuckle*

Cheers

No. I fail.

I'm pondering doing this event.

planned on an evening ride on the trace but instead went on a ride for about 45min w/ the Mrs whilst pulling our daughter in the trailer. (in which she fell asleep, again)

I've been on a campaign to ride every day for the remainder of this year and all of next year (no excuses barring catastrophic illness or injury). This weekend has been the first challenge to that, as I've had some sort of energy sapping summer cold. But I persevered.

Yesterday I handled it by doing the normal checkout routine out my bike, and taking a twenty minute ride around East Atlanta village. This morning I stretched the time to forty minutes, and plan on running a few errands on my bike this evening.

If I discount general laziness, the main barriers to daily riding for me are weather and travel. I've handled weather by equipping an old Peugeot steel frame bike with fenders. Travel is a bit more of a problem, but I won't have to travel over the next few months, so I can mull over possible solutions for awhile.

My wife, an experienced rider, and I, a noob, along with a friend who has been her regular riding partner since long before she and I met, did a 22.5 mile ride this morning.

The distance was a PB for me and an exercise for them.

I am really enjoying cycling.

RonH 08-24-08 02:32 PM

Did I ride today? In this "weather"? Of course!! I rode yesterday when there was more wind and today when the sun tried to come out but didn't make it until late this afternoon.
Had a good time riding into the headwinds provided by TS Fay yesterday. Got a good tailwind home. Same thing today. Just not quite as windy. :thumb:

Nota 08-24-08 04:49 PM

Did TdG Saturday. The hill climbs were a *****, but managed to finish in 5:07, nonetheless.

Did my usual 43 mile route this morning; then took the dog for a 4 mile brisk walk.

I'm not familiar with Tour De Tuck; I'll look it up.

Cheers

knatchwa 08-24-08 07:43 PM

Indeed I did take a ride today a total of about 40 miles, to bad I found one wrong turn and never did recover next time.

wolfpack 08-24-08 07:44 PM

tour de tuck

60mi saturday
40mi today.

Gavush 08-24-08 09:18 PM

no riding this weekend, did more family time and some major house keeping. larryfeltonj, sent you a note.. I'll be visiting atl, maybe go for a ride.

larryfeltonj 08-25-08 06:51 AM

Yes I did. There are rainy conditions here today, so I'm using it as an opportunity to check out my rainy weather bike (an old steel frame Peugeot). I'm still in the process of configuring it, so I don't yet have racks, rear blinker, or water bottle cage (plan on scrounging those up this evening). One thing about the drought we had earlier in the year, it allowed me to procrastinate finishing work on the Peugeot. Now I definitely need the old beater.

Gavush 08-29-08 10:15 PM

While in Atlanta, did a 24/26 mile ride on wed. and an 18/20 mile ride on thurs. - both were very urban compared to what I'm used to and it was an interesting change of pace. poor Larry was ill so we couldn't meet up to go ride, but there's always next time. Thanks for the suggestions & directions though!

Onegun 08-30-08 10:41 AM

Did 52 today on our tandem today, an out and back route fighting a nice 12-15 mph "breeze". But I kept telling myself:

"Intervals make you fast,
Distance makes you lean,
Hills make you strong,
But the wind makes you MEAN! :thumb:

mtnbiker66 08-31-08 08:21 AM

I got out and did a shakedown ride on my sons new hardtail in DuPont St Forest. It too bad he's sick and I had to get the first ride on it.
