NOPE, not today. Not yesterday or the day before. In a senior moment, I ran over the front wheel of my bike (I'd leaned it against the side of the car while I was loading the bike and forgot it was there - hit it backing out). Trashed the skewer and the rim is not stable enough to use. Searched high and low and finally found a matching rim in Wisconsin - hope to have it by Saturday. I could bring the Trek 520 touring bike out of the stable, but guess I'll just play golf for a couple of days until I can fix up the Madone. EXPENSIVE SENIOR MOMENT! <sigh>

Sorry to hear about the wheel Sue.
When I'm loading my bike in the car I always put the wheel where it will be in my way as I'm closing the trunk. That way I'll see it unless I'm having a "senior moment".

Not sure about riding today. The sun is out now but the radar map shows light rain all around the area.

Now Weather.com says 0% chance of rain here until 3PM. Ya know, I can look out the window and predict the weather too. And I don't even have a four year meteorology degree!

What I learned about "predicting" the weather in my high school earth science class is as accurate (sometimes more accurate) as the Weather Channel's predictions.

Z called today. My new shoes came in. Went down and picked up the shoes. Gorgeous. I hope I can give them a try tomorrow.

I send the dog out. If she comes back shivering, it's too cold; panting, it's too hot; wet, it's raining. If she doesn't come back at all, I go for a bike ride!

But I think this whole conversation belongs under the "Why I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today" thread!

Screw the wind. The sun was out and it was warm so I had to ride today. Had a nice tail wind all the way south and a killer headwind heading back to the car.
Rode the Litespeed to Spring Hill Rd. and back for 32.5 miles.

Climbing makes you strong.
Distance makes you lean.
Intervals make you fast, but
The wind makes you MEAN!!

Good Job!

If wind makes you mean I am headed for trouble I suppose, NW Florida has had winds above normal for the last 3-4 weeks. Yesterday and today were really gusty, North yesterday and NNW today with heavy gusts today. At least it is not wet like it was Thursday and Friday.

Finally! Got out today for a short battle with the wind after 10 days of whining about life's interruptions. Probably seemed like I thought the "Why I Didn't Ride Today" thread was my own personal blog!

The way home was a blast! Holding 25mph on the flats for a while like I wasn't 61 anymore! Would have fooled the average bear!

Hey people! Remember me?

I did it... finally did it....

I rode to work again! It's only 17 miles round trip, but was the best 17 miles I've ever ridden.

Hadn't commuted on the bike in almost 2 years after my femur reconstruction.

I am back!

Hooray! Got my new wheel and am good to go for a ride (at last). Kudos to Ocala Bicycle Shop - I found a replacement wheel up in Wisconsin and had it shipped here, but it needed a skewer. Ocala Bicycle Shop placed the order for a new skewer today, but didn't have a loaner skewer that would work. Carrie, one of the owners, took the skewer out of her personal bike and gave it to me to use until the new one comes in. Now that is customer SERVICE!!!

Glad to hear the good news Sue. That really is customer service.

Headed south today (no surprise there ). Rode to Anderson Snow Park. Stopped at Extreme Bicycles on the way back to the car and talked with Z about my new shoes and the construction at the top end of the Suncoast Parkway. I'm guessing it will close the Suncoast Trail from US98 for about 1/2 to 1 mile south.
You can see the trail behind the yellow digger thing in the picture.

Anyway, I rode 38 miles today.

Forgot to post after yesterday's ride.
Got a late start. Had to wait for a plumber to come look at the kitchen sink.
Finally got out around 11AM. Rode south to Corporate Blvd. Decided to turn around since it was getting warm.
Stopped at Extreme Bicycles for water.
Rode 34.8 miles.

****** Stopped and talked with one of the workers near the top end of the trail about a trail closing date. He said the consultants were there at the site looking at everything. He estimated that the top end of the trail will be closing in about 2 weeks.
Once its closed for the construction, you can still ride north (if you want to ride the hills) from SR50 to around mile marker 40 and then turn around.

Wednesday I rode "the corn rows", a local ride with multiple mile long, very hilly roads that parallel each other. We warm up riding over to them, then up one road and back on another untill your legs fall off. 21 miles.

Today I headed south on the Suncoast. Rode too late and the heat started taking it's toll. Went out to do 40, but cut it at 30. Good ride though. Both days, actually.

Ron - The construction is going to make it hard for you to get on the trail, isn't it?

Got out last night and did a shop ride out of Crank Works Bicycles in Brooksville. Ride was planned for 32 miles but i ended up doing 25 miles. The hills kicked my butt as i havent had much experience with them. Hoping to get out tomorrow morning and ride with the Extreme bike shop group ride again

Not really. Once the trail closes I'll drive to SR50 and park at the trailhead. It will be nicer in a way because I can ride north to the 40 mile marker and turn around and head south. That will get all the hills over with at the beginning of the ride. Currently I have hills at the beginning when I'm fresh and at the end when I'm whipped.

Get up early (4:50am) and went down to Extreme Bicycles for the Saturday morning ride. There were about 8 or 9 riders. I don't think of them are BF members.
Most were A group, including a 77 y/o guy who was an alternate on the East German Olympic cycling team in the 60s. He lead the way for the entire ride. I was holding my own at the back of the A group for the first few miles. Then they took off. That left me with the B group of 3, sometimes 4 riders. One of the B riders turned back just north of Centralia Rd. That left Z and myself to carry the Lanterne Rouge for the first half of the ride.
We stopped at the US98 parking area for a short rest. The A group took off first. They were long gone by the time we'd gone 3 miles.
That left Z and myself again.
The ride north was faster than I'm used to so I was semi-whipped for the ride back. Needless to say there is no question who carried the Lanterne Rouge for the ride south most of the way. I passed Z a few times but more often that not he was a few feet ahead of me.
We managed 31.5 miles.

At least I got a GOOD workout. I don't push myself to get that kind of workout riding by myself.

Next week we go south. Will that be any easier?

If i didn't have to work i would've been there. I have done the past 3 Saturday rides with Extreme. I should be there next week. I'm usually in the B group with Z averaging around 15mph.

The ride to the south is much easier as it is all flats.

Today's ride was not so good.
Rode south with a slight tail wind. Stopped at Extreme Bicycles to see if Z received his shipment of Hammer bars. Not yet.
We talked for a few minutes and I headed north. Got to the small hill between Powell Rd and SR50 and heard a s-s-s-s-s as I got to the top. Aw crap. What did I hit? Stopped at the shelter/table and took the back wheel off -- it's ALWAYS the back wheel. Couldn't find anything in the tire, inside or outside, so checked the tube. Found a small tear next to the valve stem. I guess I was too rough pulling the pump head off this morning. Must have weakened the rubber at that spot.
Replaced the tube and inflated it. Then headed back to Extreme to pick up a tube and CO2 cartridge. I didn't want to head north through no-man's-land without a spare tube or CO2.
Since it was a little later in the day the wind had picked up so I got the full force headwind all the way.
Ended up doing 36 miles.
