We've been busy with stuff related to the new house so forget to post on Thursday. Took the new Camelbak and rode south on the Withlacoochee from Inverness to the I-75 overpass. Stopped for a Hammer bar and a short rest, although it wasn't restful with all the vehicles rumbling overhead. Then headed back to Inverness. Didn't have to stop for water so I'm very happy with the Camelbak.

Yesterday I rode north from Inverness to the top end of the Withlacoochee Trail. Stopped for a bar and headed back to the car. The humidity was back. Did a total of 33 miles.

Yesterday, Gainesville/Hawthorne Trail started at SR 234 and rode east to Hawthorne. Rode around some of the residential streets in Hawthorne and then back. Just about 19 miles and my average speed is up. No riding today. Had to work. Corporate tax extension deadlines due tomorrow and it seems we always have the same customers every year that bring stuff in just days before they are due. Hopefully lots this weekend starting Friday.

    Sunday (yesterday) Withlacoochee State Trail.
We started at the South terminus, and rode up to a couple of miles North of Floral City to give us half of our 50 miles. Stopped at the Floral City gazebo on the way back for a few minutes break, and enjoyed a chicken wrap (prepared by my wife) and some water. After refilling the water bottles, we rode on back.
By the time we finished, the sun and temperature were well up, so I suppose we'll have to start out a bit earlier if we want to avoid the heat for the last part of the ride, at least for the next couple of months.

Decided to ride the hills today so headed down to the SR50 trailhead on the Suncoast Trail. FYI: They've finished the southbound lane on the parkway and now are working on the northbound lane. I think I remember someone saying the project was supposed to be finished sometime in Sept/Oct. From what I saw today I'm guessing January 2014, but what do I know. Then they have to repair and repave the section of trail that is now a dump truck parking area.
Anyway, rode from SR50 to the blockade and turned around. It was getting hot by the time I got to the car.
    Rode a whopping 21 miles.

Did the Tour de Tow... 63 @ 15.5. Usual headwinds over a good bit of the course. I still am mildly amazed that somehow there's a 2-1/2 mile stretch that's pretty much all uphill. Flatted at 38 miles and didn't get the tire seated right and had to pull it all apart and redo it at the 40 mile sag stop. *sigh* Finished the ride feeling pretty good. Trained right, ate right, rode right. Normally what I do is hang with the big bunch at the start, which burns me out halfway through. This time I was (just barely ) disciplined enough to let the spandex monster disappear into the distance and kept my steady plodding pace. Happiness is.

The weather was too nice to not ride yesterday so I headed over to Inverness. When I got there I had to hunt for a parking place. There was some sort of festival in the park by the trail.
Took my new Camelbak and rode south to Croom Rd. Sure is nice not having to stop for water, or in the case of south bound rides, not having to worry about running out of water. After a brief stop at Croom Rd. for a Hammer bar I headed north.
    Rode 39.3 miles.

Not sure how much I'll be riding for the next week or so. We're closing on the house on Tuesday (9/24). That will take most of the day (walk thru ~ 1 to 1.5 hrs, then lunch with the realtor, then the actual signing). My wife says we should "dress up" for all this. I'm supposed to wear something other than shorts and a nice t-shirt for the privilege of handing over a BIG check? They should be the ones catering to me. My wife is like her mother -- raised in the "old Southern traditions". You know -- don't wear white after Labor Day, etc. She still has a hard time dressing casual when we go to a nice store (Belks, Dillards, etc) or many restaurants.
Anyway, we'll be at the house most of Wednesday (9/25) because the appliances are being delivered, the cable/internet person is coming, we're getting a quote for gutters and an electric roll up screen door for the garage, and I'm sure there something else happening that I forget. And I'm hoping the mailman will bring our lottery check so we can pay for all this stuff.
Maybe I can ride Thursday or Friday.

We went camping this weekend in the panhandle. Lots of riding around the park and boy was it hilly. In fact, the ranger saw us and came by our campsite later in the day and told us he was watching us and really expected that we'd be walking the bikes up this one hill. I think he was surprised to see us old people just keep pushing and make it up the hill. I admit it was a real challenge. On Friday we went over to Blountstown and road the paved bike path there. It wasn't very long but it led down to the Apalachicola River. It crossed several roads but the traffic was nothing like what we have on other trails. As we got back to the trailhead we saw signs for a Pioneer Settlement so we rode over to check it out. Overall maybe about 12 miles. Here's some pictures.

well, not sure why this last picture is here...the beach one...could not remove it for some reason. It's from one of our other trips.

Nice pics Linda, we're hoping to get up to the panhandle and ride a couple of the trails up there sometime within the next 6 months. Work kind of gets in the way though.
    Sounds like a great weekend.
I'll look out for you blowing by us on the hills the next time I'm up at the Hawthorne!

We rode the Withlacoochee on Sunday, Ridge Manor to a couple of miles North of Inverness, and back. The rain delayed our departure until 7:30, and the return leg was slowed somewhat due to me popping a spoke on the rear wheel. Riding with the rear brake unhitched and wheel out of true for the last 7 miles didn't spoil the ride though, or the picnic we ate at the Ridge Manor pavilion afterwards. The mostly cloudy weather was actually perfect for riding, (still a little too warm in the sun) and we ate, loaded up and got home just before the rain started around 1 ish.

Saw a guy on a red and white litespeed on Sunday, thought it may be you, Ron, but I realise from the pic now that yours is silver.
Good luck with the house buddy, may you be very happy there.

Another Saturday, another club ride, this time a shortened loop through Monteocha and LaCrosse. 35 miles, most of it in the rain. Had a lot of fun but got soaked - socks wringing wet, shoes and jersey pockets full of water, sand and dirt in the teeth from the wheelspray, bike caked in grit... Yep, it's fall!

Rode from the new house to the Withlacoochee Trail (Hernando trailhead) and then to the north end and back home. The weather was awesome and there were lots of folks out riding. Guess they were "training" for the Rails to Trails ride next Sunday.
The hills on CR/SR486 has a few nice climbs. Total elevation gain of 860 feet according to my CycleMeter app. Not bad for flat Florida.
Rode a total of 35.8 miles.

Rode the Van Fleet trail yesterday. We started at Mabel and rode down to Polk City and then back up. Saw an alligator lying in the sun from one of the 3 bridges, and numerous hawks, snakes and gopher tortoises.
All in all a nice ride.

I finally got out yesterday. Haven't ridden since Oct 6 when I did the Rails to Trails ride with Sue.
We've been busy cleaning our friends' house we moved out of (took 4 days - thats why we didn't buy it - too big) and unpacking everything at the new house. We're just about settled in so I rode over to the Withlacoochee Trail and rode north from the Hernando trailhead to the top end. Then turned around and rode back south and headed home.
The weather was gorgeous and there were lots of riders and walkers.
    Rode 35.8 miles.

All this moving and cleaning and you name it has really been taking its toll on me. I was tired today before I left for my ride but went anyway. Rode from the house to the Hernando trailhead and headed south. Stopped in Inverness for water and a short rest. Decided to just head home. I've decided to take a break from cycling until at least next Tuesday or Wednesday. Plus my shoulders are still sore from all this activity.
    Did a whopping 23.6 miles.

Another year, another Gainesville Cycling Festival. Did my usual 55. Of course, despite telling myself over and over, "pace yourself, don't hammer it early" I latched onto a paceline rolling along at 18-20. Still felt good at the 25mile rest stop, but at mile 40 my legs suddenly took me to task for hot-dogging it early. That last 17 miles I had to WORK for it, but surprisingly enough I made my goal of a 16 MPH average. Happiness is.

Checking in.... Rode the mountain bike at San Felasco Sat..... Spur of the moment invite... Didn't take any gator aide or any snacks & it got hotter than expected... That was bad later.... We got to the furthest point out from the parking lot.. The sign said.... parking lot one way... and Hidden Rise loop the other way. We debated for about 5 minutes which way we were going to go. Finally we just did the loop... That ended up being a bad idea for me.... DOH!! The extra 3 mile loop took its toll on me at the end of the ride. With about 3 miles to go I just bonked... Ran out of energy!! I limped back to the parking area the last 3 miles or so. At that point I was cursing the trail gods for not just having a straight line back to the parking area... hahah .. Ended up riding 19.5 miles...

Sunday.... Took a road bike ride on the Palatka Lake Butler trail.... By the way it is open with NO MORE construction all the way from Roberts Lane on the east end through Hastings on the west end (SE 57st).... Almost 19 miles of continuous paved trail now!! (not including the 6 miles up to Gold Head State Park & the 6 miles back on that trail). Rode 38 miles with friends.... Nice leisurely pace....

Well I think I'm rested. Been sitting and relaxing a lot and felt much better today so decided to head out for a ride rather than wait until Tuesday or Wednesday like I originally thought.
Rode from the house to Hernando and headed north on the Withlacoochee. Stopped at the north end for water and a Bonk Bar (tasty ). There was a couple looking at the trail map there and they asked a few questions about the trail. They asked if there was a bike shop in Hernando. I told them there are two bike shops in Inverness so they decided to head down there.

For those of you who don't know about the new bike shop here's their Facebook page (no website yet). They were one of the sponsors of the Rails to Trails ride and had a table with info and were doing bike repairs at the ride. I talked with the owners for a while and they seem knowledgeable. I haven't been to the shop yet but I'm looking for a few bike related items so I'll be heading there soon. I'll let you know what I think of the shop.

After my stop at the north end I decided to head home. Rode a total of 35.9 miles.

I've had several since 1999 but have settled on my beloved 2001 Litespeed Tuscany and my latest, a 2015 Cannondale Supersix EVO 105

Got out today. Rode from the house to the Hernando trailhead and headed south. Made a short side trip toward downtown Inverness. Then headed south to Floral City. Stopped for water and a Hammer bar. Then headed home.
I thought I had plenty of sunscreen on but my face is really warm tonight.
Rode a total of 38.8 miles.

LOL.... RonH you made laugh.... Posted in "why I didn't ride" & in "Did you ride today" on the same day... Very nice!!

I acutally got up and did a morning ride today... Friend and I rode the PLB trail starting in Grandin at about 9:15am this morning. It was a bit chilly for the first few miles in the shade. After that it warmed up nicely and was perfect for riding.. We rode to Keystone and turned up to Gold Head State Park. On the way back we did the loop around lake Brooklyn and back to the PLB trail. I think we ended up with 34 miles. Took our ornaments on a 34 mile bike ride before we added them to the trail Christmas Tree.

We were on it just South of Floral City today. We loaded the bikes up and did a quickie ride this afternoon, from Ridge Manor north. Because of time constraints today, we turned round and headed back south again about 3 miles short of Floral City. I'm pretty sure I'd recognise that bike of yours with its yellow bar tape.

I'm imagining that your red face might be due go the slight breeze, maybe slightly flushed rather than burned?

Nice pics. I'm looking forward to getting back up there, and to doing that park ride in with the trail..
