Today's was an out-and-back 35 miler dealing with a 25 mph crosswind from Hurricane Ike! This is getting a little old!

P.S. - Would someone please tell me who decided a crossing wind should feel like a headwind BOTH ways??!!

yeah... met Stephen up on the 'trace... around mile nine my stomach started to bother me a little... at mile eleven I decided we better turn around. I had missed lunch and ate a power bar about 30min before the ride... that didn't go over too well w/ my belly. luckily I made it back to the car and had enough time to grab some tissues and run into the woods. ugh.

I got out in the rain and fog for a long "epic" ride in Pisgah. I rode solo on the hardtail. It's the first time I've ridden a hardtail in Pisgah in many years. It was a great ride, wet slick,nasy....all the things Pisgah should be. Black mountain is a great trail but it's really fun when things get slick.
Some pics from today.......

Gas went up 50 cents here so I got out the Gary Fisher and did all my errands around town. About an hour or so. Checking out future commuting, altho I live 10 blocks from work. Tomorrow back on the road again.

Yes. 30 sweaty miles.

Gas at many stations here is $1.30/gallon more than it was Friday morning. Some stations don't have any left.

Did my usual 43 mile ride through the Brushy Mtns on Saturday, and a nice 45 miler, up on the Pkwy between Wilkesboro & Boone and along the New River, earlier today.

Felt pretty good both days; hope I can say the same next weekend, following the btb century rides. I have the feeling the (brutal) ride out of Sylva on Saturday, will take a lot out of me for Sunday's ride.

I did 24 miles today. It was mostly flat, but somewhat windy. It's funny how it seems I have a headwind no matter what direction I go. I know this isn't true, but it sure feels like it. About mile 17, I noticed low air pressure on my rear tire. I used the frame pump and tried to take it easy for the final 7 miles. I ended up walking the final 1/2 mile with a complete flat. Needless to say, I have been online looking at CO2 cartridges and adaptors. I would go to my LBS, but my LBS is 120 miles round-trip.

Hey WP,

How'd you do today (at the TdT)?

You probably beat my ***** - as probably did most of the other riders doing the Century route, but at least I finished. Beautiful ride, but boy was it tough!!!

According to my cycle computer, I had 7:20 total time, from departure to finish. My rider # (which was 85) apparently fell off somewhere during the ride. When I went to get checked in at the finish, they said "you don't have a #"...and I tugged at the back of my jersey while looking over my shoulder and said WTF?, oh well, it must have fallen off. They had to go get the ride organizer gal, who had the crib sheet with all the riders names & numbers, before they could check me in.

I only started bike riding in April, and have saved all my rider #'s (along with a closet full of T-shirts I'll probably never wear), from all the rides I've done this summer; just for memoribilia sake. Not only did I lose my rider #, I also apparently registered too late for the ride to get a T-shirt. Oh well, I have the memories of a great ride -- together with a fierce lower back ache. Not sure how I'm going to fare with the B2B ride tomorrow, if this back ache doesn't subside. I think I might need to get a new stem for my bike.

Happy trails,
Nota

[note: edited for "time", changing from "6:20" to "7:20"...cuz I'm stoopid and misfigured the time - by an hour!. I kinda thought that was too good to be true, after taking 7:12 to do the Bridge to Bridge ride yesterday. Oh well, maybe "6:20" will be my time for next year.]

Had a nice 25 mile group ride on Saturday. Beautiful morning at around 68 degrees.

Rode with the local bike club but had a little bit of trouble keeping up with them at times.

Had the pleasure of riding with the Mother of one of our Bejiing Olmpics Participants. Very interesting talking with her about the visit to China.

Overall, a great ride.

Just getting back into riding after years off the bike. Use to do trips up to Pisgah to ride anything from scary steep (nothing like rocks and stuff tumbling down the trail with you as you descend) to easy trails along creek beds. I looked at the your pictures of the trail that had all the trees roots. Pisgah which is wet a lot has tons of those. Snot slick wet roots. Man was that fun. Best place to ride a mountain bike IMO for variety, scenary, and fun. Lucky dog. (I am in Alabama)

Yeah, I can be riding there in 15 min. from the house. I'm spoiled.

Add 5 hours and 45 minutes to that time and I am there too. Hope that riding up there has gotten better rather than restricted in my time away. I guess I need to buy a new mountain bike in the near future. I think my front fork (poly bushings) on my old Proflex might be out of date. You think?

planned on doing a century on the 'trace today, coworker was going to come along - he mostly rides his bike to the bar to avoid getting a DUI... I expected him to make it about 8 miles out and then send him on his way home... but he actually made it 20 miles before he needed to turn around. I decided to escort him back since he was out twice as far as he had ever ridden before. (I had tried to convince him he didn't need to come at all, and when that didn't work, that he should turn around at the 10 mile marker... but he refused) So... after I got back to the car and having already gone out and back over the hilly section of the route... I really didn't feel like doing that section again for the sake of another 30 out and back just to say I did 100... so I did a few hill repeats and called it a day at 46 miles. 2 more weeks until my MS 150 ride... I'm $100 away from my goal of $800, so it looks like I'll make it with a little door to door around the neighborhood.
