January 14, yes best day for riding this year

Temp in the low 60s to 69* today, so I got out for 31+ miles this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer but the weather map calls for rain Sat and Sun so I think I will try to get in a long ride tomorrow.

And yes, Onegun, even the toutoises have been deeeeeep in their holes.

January 15, yes another great day

Temp in the high 60s to low 70s today, so I got out for another 32+ miles this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy. I am 24 miles ahead of this time last year and have ridden one less day (8 days vs 9). If the weather stay fair I should surpass last yr with ease.

Finally back on the bike! I took the last of the antibiotics yesterday and celebrated by riding 16.5 miles. Nice day with a little wind. Today the wind was blowing pretty good, probably a steady 10-15 mph, right on my nose all the way south on the trail. I turned around though and got a few miles of tailwind before the wind shifted to the side. I managed 22.4 miles.

My knees are complaining a little, probably too much too fast after not riding for a month. Then I played soccer with the kids during practice as we needed one extra player to even the sides out. I didn't do too bad keeping up with 13-14 year old kids, they heard about that half way through the game. No way a 45 year old who just rode 22.4 miles on his bike an hour or so earlier should be able to keep up with them! I am kind of hoping it does rain tomorrow as that will be a good excuse for a rest day!

yes! First ride of the season - my birthday 22 miles with my neighbor and a friend from down the road. Stopped by the Narrows of the Harpeth to show my neighbor who had never seen it. Had a mini-challenge climbing some anonymous driveway that must have been 21% - it started around 50 and was about 47 when we got back, the last few miles were in the rain. MMmmm.. 47 and getting rained on and blasted with road salt wheel spray. Had to rinse the bike off when I got home - had just cleaned, waxed and polished on it this morning. Parked it over a register to help dry it off.

Yes, finally

finally able to ride yesterday. I'm back to work 5 days a week during tax season so it will only be weekends for me and the last several have been either rainy or cold. Only did 8 miles yesterday as rain was threatening. Hit the Baseline trail head in Ocala and just made it back to the truck when it started sprinkling. Hope to get at least another 10 in today depending on the weather.

January 17, yes another great day but WINDY

Temp in the high 60s to low 70s today, so I got out for another 32+ miles this afternoon. Winds were 23 to 30 mph out of the wsw, the return trip was rather brutal but I will take it. I am 64 miles ahead of this time last year and have ridden same amount of days (10 days t/y vs 10 days l/y). If the weather stays fair I should surpass last yr with ease.

11.24 miles, 11.9 MPH average, 56 minutes.

Was a really good ride. It is almost 60 outside if not, sunny, and a really good day to be on a bike.

God, the weather was great here in Atlanta. I've been training for a sprint triathlon, and today was my running day (I'm off work on Mondays) but after my run the weather was so beautiful I hopped on my bike and rode to my sister's house (she's an avid cyclist too), chatted with her for awhile, then meandered all over southeast Atlanta.

Yes I rode this morning, and it was a beautiful ride. I didn't really track mileage, but I rode for an hour in moderate traffic, so my guess is that I rode about ten miles.

I've decided to implement an approach I did a number of years back, which worked like a charm until I made a deliberate decision to stop (at the time I thought it exhibited too much OCD).

I'm going to never miss riding for any reason other than safety concerns (injury or illness). If the weather is really horrible it'll give me a chance to test my inclement weather gear. If I'm under deadline constraints I'll just do a short ride in which I do practice drills (turning to look over my right and left shoulder, practice keeping my form good, emergency stops, etc).

When I rode every day without fail my bike was always maintained and clean, chain oiled, tires in good shape and fully inflated, and all my gear was easy to find. When I'm riding sporadically I often spend a half hour looking for tire levers and gloves, which then feeds the tendency to miss days.

I'll pop a note here every day, either stating that I've ridden or that I've broken my ankle or something. If I don't post a note, feel free to ridicule me.

Had a really good ride today. It was one of those really rare, beautiful days. Got up to the low 60's and plenty of sunshine.

I decided to go down a half paved road just across the way. It is a 3.1 mile coast to a resevoir. There is rarely any traffic on it, and only parts of it are populated, so the ride down is a good 10 min coast with no sound but you and the freewheel, or the occasional bird flushing from the grass along the side of the road. When I was scouting it out in the car yesterday, I noticed there was a rather large (country) dog unchained roaming a yard right near the end of the paved portion. I decided to stop about a half mile short of that point, and climb back up. Managed just under six miles on that trip, with an average of 11.3, about 30 mins.
I finished the ride (after a small break) doing intervals here in the neighborhood for another 4.5 miles. I am taking a break tomorrow, my liner rubbed a pretty good chaf on the back of my stump, and going to give it a day to chill along with my muscles.

Nice day today, managed 22.4 miles on a nearly empty Withlacoochee Trail. I rode for 6 miles before I saw another person! It was nice when I left, but on the way back it started getting cooler and then my back started to hurt around my bad discs. If I wear more clothes I overheat, less and I am cold. It could be worse, at least it isn't snowing! Supposed to be nice again tomorrow, hopefully I can get out before soccer practice.

Yes, and despite the fact that I had a chaotic start (from not having my gear together -- still working on that) it was a great ride. The forecasts are that it may rain later in the day, so I wore my rain gear into work. I work a twelve hour shift today, so between the ride this morning, my lunch ride, and the commute home, I'll probably log between fifteen and eighteen miles today.

I agree with Jim, no wind and it was nice! I still got a little chilly on the last half of the ride though. It must just be a cumulative effect of the cool air slowly cooling me down, as the temp hadn't dropped. If anything it was getting warmer! I did my usual 22.6 miles, but today I rode my '83 Puch.

I did my four mile commute this morning. The streets were wet from overnight rain, but it wasn't raining on my way in. The temperature was still wonderful for riding.

Yes, I've ridden today (and will get in a lunch ride and my commute home) I had a nice ride into work this morning. It was 38 F with a light sprinkling of rain at 6 AM. Light traffic ... pleasantly quiet, and the traffic lights were kind to me.

man, I'm jealous. I wish I was close enough to ride into work but I'd have to leave ~2 hours early (5am) and get home ~2 hours later (7pm) I would like to do it at least one saturday this summer though. I onlywork every 6th saturday, 8 till 2 so it would be more realistic. I have been hitting the trainer and now some rollers a friend loaned to me. Did an hour on them last night watching back to the future. (it's still a great movie)
