Sometimes I don't like to say I did not ride, but at least I know that in communicating the challenges that were faced and explore the journey yet to be had, it seems clear that there are good days and bad days, and with the rain that is supposed to be coming out here I wonder if I will continue the similar idea.

I often wonder sometimes why I do not ride, perhaps it was that I got lost in the world of the sims, lost in that virtual verse. Or was it simply because it is easier to not do then to actually do. Both valid questions that I need to answer for myself, or perhaps you can offer your insight, in the challenges you faced and how you overcame them for whatever goal, but preferably specific to Riding my Bike More.

February 3, yes, cold wind today.

Temp in the high 50s when I left and when I got back today, wind out of the NE @ 10 mph so I got out for a short 20+ miles this afternoon. Got home about 5:15. Had to push myself to get 20 today. The wind just seemed to be colder than the temp. Tomorrow it is supposed to get in the 70s. That is more my style.

Feb 4th (yesterday) I got my ride into the post office, plus just a tad more. 7 miles on the MTB. I had plans of a longer ride but instead I answered the phone when it rang. DOH!! Looking for another MTB, because I put a big ole basket on the back of the one I have now, specifically for riding packages to the post office. Kind of hard to do any trail riding with a big ole basket on the back......

Managed the ride to the post office and back this morning.... I say managed because the wind was terrible 3 miles of riding into the wind with a 35 lbs bike (including basket). If I were to guess I would say the wind was a steady 15mph with gusts of 25. It was like a 3 mile climb to the post office ... Not to mention the half mile both ways in the mud/clay/sand.. Anyway a short ride is better than no ride.... ...

yep.. just checked weather underground says winds of 16mph....

February 6, yes, cloudy and very windy today.
Temp in the low 60s when I left and high 50s when I got back today, wind out of the W @ 22 to 30 mph so I got out for a good 30+ miles this afternoon . Got home about 5:15 pm. That wind was a killer, other wise it was a beautiful day. Stopped at one of the shoppimg centers that I pass, they were having a car show in the plaza. I'm guessing there were a few million dollars worth of cars in the show. Sure wish I had taken my camera.

You all know--us folk up north would kill for a day in the 40's, lesser still 60's. I have been looking out windows at snow and ice. High of 26. Yes, high h-i-g-h of 26. Driving cars out onto the lake to park next to trucks and small ice huts that hae been set up on the lake.

We had rode a few days when it got up to 36. You know, a heat wave. But we had to put so many layers on that most of us looked like black, white, or latino michelin men.

Can you all send us just half a day of 50 degree weather. We won't be greedy and ask for days or 60's. No, no. That is really asking for too much. Just half a day of 50. Yoiu don't even hae to make it 50+. Just 50.

Please!

February 8, yes, Beautiful today.
Temp in the low 40s when I left, a bit outside my comfort level but I had a Dr. appointment for my monthly B12 shot and I knew it would warm up. Low 60s when I got back today, no wind to speak of . Got home about 3:00 pm.

I feel real sorry for my northern brothers so a full day of 50+ will be sent as soon as I see my pay pal account go up.
I could not take the kind of weather that you all are having.

I could not take the kind of weather that you all are having.

Please send a pay pal account address, along with a guarantee that we will get the weather and I along with nearly 4 million folks up here will be more than glad to send you a daily/weekly/monthly allotment. Heck, I will send whole pay checks if I know for sure we will get the weather.

Up here, it is an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison for believing we will have nice weather in Feb, March, April. As a matter of fact if one of my children put on shorts and heads toward the door I will wash their mouths out with soap and call the psych ward.

We got a winter storm today. Got 6-10 inches of snow. Expecting another batch tomorrow same depth.

Please, send the heat. The trainer is driving me crazy. I fell off of it two weeks ago, trying to lose myself in a video. Tore up a pair of riding gloves. Looking at a set of rollers but fear I will be sticking out of a wall on one of these weekends when I surpass my wits end. Everyone is so white and ashy looking up here; even the black folks have lost color.

Help! Need heat!

Got a ride in today (Monday) on the road bike. Started out riding with my friends 16yr old son. He likes the idea of riding, but doesn't really like the riding part. I guess its like work to him. The last 3 rides including today he has went from 1 to 4 miles and went home (today he went about 4 miles and I had to call a ride for him). After he got picked up I ended up riding almost 18 miles.. 17.96. Not too windy and perfect temp around 65 I think. About 2 miles from the house I start hearing a tick, tick, tick.... annoying .... tick tick tick. I think either a pedal or the bottom bracket is making the noise. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I saw a toy gun & a toy sword on the side of the road today....... not sure what that means... but its odd....... LOL

I had ordered some new SPD flip pedals for my new (new to me) mountain bike. 2004 Gary Fisher Sugar 3+ (that is in the shop getting a tune up, should be done tomorrow). Anyway put the pedals on my road bike to see if the click, click, click annoying click, click, click noise would go away from my last ride. Sure enough with the new pedals the noise was gone.... This is the second set of pedals (same kind) to fail on the road bike, Shimano PD-A520's... I use SPD pedals on my road bike & my mountain bikes, one set of shoes. I think i'll do some research and look for some other pedals.... Anyway just a short short test ride on the road bike today.... 2 or 3 miles maybe...

After three weeks off the bike, the weather gods, work gods and my sick pooch all got together and let me go for a ride! It was only 16.6 miles, but it felt really good (although I am embarrassed to say it was a bit chilly at 63 degrees!). Soccer season ended last week (my team came in second again, now I know how Jan felt coming in behind Lance all those times), so hopefully I can ride more on weekends now. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so I plan on being out again.

feels good to be back on the bike today, even after breaking a rear spoke half way out.
good strong wheels, barely a wobble at a steady 20. I was trying to spin up a sprint for someone else, but he desided to push me as pulled by.
didn't want to blow another spoke or more so I let him go.

25 miles 17 mph ave (deceptive since we do a good stretch at 20+)

Well I started out on a ride today... I picked up the MTB from the bike shop. Test rode it in the parking lot and down the sidewalk everything seemed okay. So the plan was to stop at one of the trails on the way home and do a bit of off road riding. Got to the trail and no matter what gear I put it in... it kept changing gears. On the pavement it was ok.... So i had to soft pedal it back to the van and head back to the bike shop. I dunno... they blamed it on the mechanic that was not there LOL Took the mechanic about 5 mins of tinkering with it and he test rode it (out back of the shop seems there is a test trail that I didn't know about the first time). So I test rode it and it was almost perfect, It was only messing up in one gear. So he tinkered with it for another 5 mins.... and I test rode it and worked perfect.... But by this time it was too late in the day for a ride.... DOH!!! Anyway new bike PC and Tires were delivered while I was gone today... So tonight I'll get it all ready for a ride tomorrow....... All the while crossing my fingers that I can actually get out for a ride tomorrow .... LOL

Yes, finally, 21.1 miles on the Withlachochee from Central Ridge to Inverness and back. A little cool when we first started but nice overall. The trail was fairly busy too. Sure was nice to get outside after all these weeks of rain and/or cold weather. I was getting tired of riding the recumbent at the gym.

Yeah, third ride outside this year. 23 miles... headwinds in every direction, kinda gloomy out, everything shades of brown, leftover salt residue on the roads. The headwind and some hilly sections took the avg down to 16.4 or something like that. Can't say it was a nice ride, but it was a good one. (ie, no dogs, no flats, riding outside...) Looking forward to spring... only thing I found worthy of taking a picture of was a ton of buzzards / hawks / whatever. There were two groups of about 10-15 of them soaring around not too far apart from each other.

Got out for a ride on the mountain bike today. Rode with the 16 year old today, he did a lot better than the last attempt. First we went and checked out one of the non-paved trails that off shoot from the Gainesville Hawthorne trail. The trail wandered back to a stream that was about 2ft deep and crystal clear with a sandy bottom. It must be fed by a spring it was just so clear it had to be. I can see riding when its 100deg out and taking that trail and cooling off in the water. We rode about 8.5 miles with about 4 on the dirt trail and 4.5 on the paved part of the G.ville Hawthorne trail. Perfect weather with LOTS of people out enjoying the trail. Looks like LOTS of rain tomorrow.... DOH!!
