I came home from running errands Saturday afternoon and there was a box on the porch with the new saddles I ordered for my bikes. Needless to say, I mounted the one on the Giant right away and test rode it! Didn't feel too bad up and down the street, so I changed into my riding clothes and headed for the trail. I made it all of 2.5 miles when it was clear that seat was not going to work, too narrow. So I turned around and headed for home before I did any real damage to my lower regions. By the time I got the seats switched again, it was too late to ride, so I mounted the other new saddle on my '83 Puch and waited for Sunday.

Sunday noon I headed out into a bit of wind, but it was pretty warm anyway. The new saddle is firmer than the old one, looks better, but isn't a great improvement in comfort. I managed to make it 22.6 miles with no damage to my man parts, so that was better than the other one! I am going to give it another ride and see if it feels better with a little more familiarity. If not, it gets sent back to the store! It felt good to get in another ride, hopefully the weather will cooperate some more this week.

Went to bed last night thinking there is gonna be no chance of a ride today. I looked at the forecast and it said rain from around 2am through the whole day today. I woke up this morning and didn't see a cloud in the sky. So around 10:30 I could not take it anymore, got my stuff together and got dropped off at the pavement with the road bike (about 4 blocks away). Rode a bit over 10 miles out with a slight tail wind. Turned around and about half way home the front was moving in and looking like it might rain. Of course the wind picked up a bit. So about 6 miles on the way back was into a bit of a head wind. Great ride though, stopped at a friends car repair shop on the way home and messed with their computer for a few minutes. Great ride!!! 20.20 miles in total. Still have the NEW SPD mtb pedals on the road bike for right now. I want to buy some new pedals but so far can't decide what ones I want to go with. Anybody have and ideas or suggestions?? Likes or dislikes pedal wise.. They have the be the SPD clipless type. Cant afford to buy new shoes and pedals right now.

Yep, 20 miles on my lunch break. I get 3 hours paid for physical fitness, so, combined with my lunch hour I get out 3 times a week.

February 23, yes, another beautiful day and I am lovin it. We are getting them one after another here now.
Temp in the low 70s when I left at 12 noon. Rode 29.41 miles. Wind was out of the North at 7 so no problem. Passed a young guy pushing a mt bike with a flat rear tire. Shot one CO2 into it to see if it would hold air it didn't. So I rode about 5 miles to the nearest bike shop and bought him a tube and took it back to him, helped him change it, and then went on my way. It was a beautiful Fl day. it just doesn't get any better than this......

29.41 (s)miles today
393.46 (s)miles this month
979.32 (s)miles this year
32 ride days TY vs 29 ride days LY
6520 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
277 miles ahead of this date last year

5 miles on the MTB in the black mud, really soggy grass (slash) mud, Sand... and more sand.. 3 small streams, one moving kind of fast that came up to about bottom bracket height. And then about 3 miles on the pavement back to where my sister was parked with my van.. The most people I have ever seen at this trail (part of the St. Johns river management system).. Was nice seeing the trails being used. And then an hour cleaning the bike when i got back... LOL

Nice day today, although the wind was blowing a bit. Tailwind on the way south, cruising at 16-19 mph, which is flying for me! When I reached my turnaround point, I had averaged over 15 mph, but then I had to ride into the wind all the way home. It was a bit of a slog going upwind, but still managed pretty decent speeds. At the end my average was 14.2 mph for 22.6 miles. Not too bad considering how little I have ridden lately and that I was riding my '83 Puch. Still not decided on the new saddle, not perfect but not bad enough to get rid of it yet!

I have to take the dog to the vet again tomorrow, so don't know if I'll get out or not. It's pretty bad when you have your dogs vet on speed dial! I wouldn't know what to do without them though, I spend more time with them than the rest of the family!

I got back out on the bike again today... The mountain bike, 10.60 miles total.... about 4 miles on the dirt/mud. It was 66 when I started the ride and 54 when I got picked up. The 4 miles in the mud was more of a workout than the 6 miles on the pavement. I think the tires were 3X their weight with all the mud on them, (couldn't get going fast enough to shed the mud, while on the trails ... LOL). Right as I got back to the main road from riding the trail it started to rain. And at that point the temp had dropped 12deg, and of course the wind picked up a bit, coming out of the west.... naturally the direction I was headed LOL. Rode 4 miles in the rain and wind to the post office and waited for a ride. Overall.... pretty good ride even with the wind, rain & mud ..... Think I'll try the road bike tomorrow....

Started out on a ride today... With wet shoes and gloves that I FORGOT to dry out after yesterday. I got almost a mile down the road and decided I was toooooooo cold. Turned around back to the house..... typing this ..... LOL 1.86 miles... But I do have my stuff in front of the fan drying it out. I might have been ok if not for the wet feet and hands.... I had no chance to get warm.

February 26, yes, another beautiful but cold day and I am lovin it.
Temp in the low 40s when I left before noon. Rode 20+ miles and had my second meeting with the Parks and Recreation Dept. Wind was out of the NNW @ 6/10 so it was no factor. It was a beautiful Florida day. Not a cloud in the sky......
I don't like 20 mile rides so I might try for another 20 later to make it a 40 mile day. I have got to step it up as I am only tracking at a 6300 mile year so far.

A bit over 7 miles on the MTB ... 2 miles on the pavement to the trails and then 5 miles on the trails. Still nice and muddy on about 1/2 of the trail. Came to a LAKE in the middle of the trail. Okay not really a lake just a really big mud puddle that I'm guessing was about a foot and a half deep. I say guessing because I didn't try to cross it, wasn't really sure how much muck/mud was on the bottom of it. Didn't feel like having to ditch in the middle and getting all wet.... LOL Maybe in the summer.... but not when its barely 60 deg. Like Kjc6940 said it was a bit windy but not really a factor on the MTB other than making me cold ... lol

Well on the plus side I rode 8.3 miles on the mountain bike with about 5.5 of that on the trails in the mud, sand and grass. There might have even been a few spots that actually felt like hard pack ... LOL .. I drove my sister to Crescent Beach where she works cleaning condo's. I was going to ride while she cleaned. The plan was to ride the MTB for awhile and then when she got done with the first condo I was going to ride the road bike down A1A. We drove to the second condo where there was a guy out pressure washing the cement driveway. I got all geared up and took off... About 300 foot later I was on my butt in a puddle. I was going up this slight incline in the driveway, standing up and all of a sudden it felt like my chain slipped and next thing I know I'm on the cement. Got up and hobbled over to a wall to lean me and the bike on. It was then I realized they had just got done painting that part of the cement, cement paint with sand thrown in. My chain didn't slip my tire did. When I went from the non painted cement to the painted wet cement the tire slipped out from under me. Anyway bloody knee and road rash on my right thigh, all this from doing only about 7mph. We did go to the condo office where they took pics of my leg and got my information. Told them you know it could be a lot worse if an elderly person falls on the SLIPPERY painted cement. Seems my plans never work out for riding..... DOH!!! If i'm not to sore..... I'll try again tomorrow..

Wednesday March 3 cold mid 50s and windy 25mph rode the south end of The Pinellas Trail and got some photos of some American Bald Eagles that were nesting along the trail. Road 30 miles with my daughter.

Yes! -- and it was a fantastic day for it, here in Louisville. 50F/10C, a little bit of a headwind in a stretch of downtown that acts as a sort of wind tunnel, but sunny and beautiful. Okay, so I commute by bike, which means I pretty much ride every day -- but this one was worth mentioning We don't get too many days like this around here. Tomorrow looks good, too -- I'm planning on a long (by my recent standards, anyway) ride for tomorrow morning.

KJC, your mileage is pretty inspiring to me You may need to step it up, but you're still making me look like a chump!

I have got to step it up as I am only tracking at a 6727 mile year so far. Stopped at my LBS and bought a new Trek wired computer. My wireless Cateye was giving me a false reading for my Max. speed and didn't have cadence, the Trek does. Well maybe I was doing 71 mph on these long Florida down hills. Yes thats it, it was those down hills.

I do have some things going for me that you probably don't. 1) I am retired and can ride as often and as long as I want. 2) We have weather that allows me to ride almost 365 days a year if you don't mind an occasional rain day or a cold day in th 40s. 3) Now I don't know about your marital status but my wife lets me ride as long and as often as I want. I am a lucky man....

So don't be to hard on your self.

Got out for a ride today..... PERFECT weather. Took both bikes with me again today (MTB & Road), and hoped for better luck than last weekend.... DOH! It was actually my first ride after crashing last Sunday. I felt good all week just didn't have the time to ride (or it was too cold LOL).. Went to the Gainesville Hawthorne trail and rode the MTB first on one of the off-shoot non paved trails. Even with no rain for 4 or 5 days it was still pretty wet. Could not complete the whole trail because too much water in some areas. But still had fun and got a lil bit muddy.. I think I rode 5.8 miles, a bit under an hour. Went and switched bikes and not really sure how far I rode because I could NOT get the bike computer to display trip distance, somehow messed it up last weekend when I crashed. It still worked, I just could not get it in the right mode. Rode for just under an hour on the road bike... TONS of people on the trail... I love seeing lots of people on the trail be they on bikes, on foot, on roller blades... I figure the more people that use the trail the more its kept up for everybody... Anyway.... NO crashes and a GREAT ride with PERFECT weather.... I hope I can find time to ride tomorrow....

10.7 miles after my neighbor's homecoming. Nice day, just not the circumstances I'd to be off of work from, but I've known Mr. Murell for a little over 10 miles and was glad to call him a friend.
