After yesterday's windy ride I was only able to do the 30 miler again today. Being 65 years old I need more than 24 hours to recover from a hard workout.

April 29, 33+ miles today. Lots of wildlife out today, 4 Gopher Turtles, 2 Red Tail Hawks, 2 Black snakes. tons of squirrels. I was sweating again today, and drinking a lot more water, it was another beautiful Florida day, sunny low 80* F, and a only a light wind. It was just good to be out side and turning the cranks. The days are starting to get a lot warmer here in FL.

Finally got back on the bike today after about 2 weeks of NO riding. 26.52 miles on the road bike. Kind of over did it, after not riding much lately. But glad I got a ride in anyway...

Started out doing the post office run on the mountain bike with the coooool basket on the back .. lol Friend decided he would ride with me. Went to the post office did a bit bigger loop and came home. Just a bit under 12 miles total. Felt like a lot more though, especially with the basket on the back. Quite a bit of wind & pretty warm.

I have been riding every day for the last week and today notched my first 100 mile week of the year! Just my normal 22.5 miles on the Withlacoochee Trail. Lot's of wildlife lately, saw two snakes and a bunny today. I have been so busy I haven't had time to visit the forum, but at least I am riding again!

"49 miles and four different counties, Personal best." ........... Congrats on your personal best ride...

Went to the flea market & then to the Hawthorne end of the G.ville Hawthorne trail. Rode a bit over 20 miles, 10 miles towards Gainesville and then the 10back. The temp at the bank on the way home said 93deg. LOTS of people out enjoying the trail today. Had a nice ride.... the heat didn't hit me until I was loading the bike up to come home.

Tried to get an early ride in today, didn't quite work out though. I had plans of riding the MTB to the trail, ride a bit on the trail and then ride back. I had not rode the MTB (one without the basket) in about 3 weeks. Got on the bike and didn't make it out of the driveway when I realized that the shock was low on air. So had to hunt up the shock pump. Took off and got about a mile away went to stop at a stop sign and almost could not get my left foot un-clipped. Tried cleaning my shoe but still not good. Rode back home and changed the cleats on my shoes. Didn't end up really going for a ride until about 10am... Rode a bit over 20 miles .. wanted to ride some more on the trails but it was really getting hot at that point.... So just rode home.... Had a good ride.... it said 97 on the thermometer when i got back....

Went to the G.ville Hawthorne trail today and rode 19.53 miles... I'm not smart enough to get a ride in in the morning.... I wait until its really hot before I go...... DOH!! There were only a few other people out on the trail at 3pm.... About a half mile into the ride I got stung by a bee .... I had baggy shorts on and it flew up my leg a bit.... stung me.... I didn't see it had no clue until it hurt like crazy... If anybody had seen me, it would have looked pretty weird/funny me swatting at my leg.... LOL... Never did see the bee..... About another 1/2 mile down the trail I almost hit a snake that darted out from the side of the trail... I dunno if i was more scared or the snake.... because it FLEW back to the side. On the way back I saw a cat on the side of the trail with a squirrel in its mouth..... Just a weird day on the trail..... or maybe I just imagined it all in a heat induced delirium????

I took last weekend off the bike while visiting friends is Thomasville, GA, so no rides sun or mon. I still got in 185 miles, including a 12 mile "National Bike To Work Day" ride on my fixie, and I might go out later so as to break 200.

yes, finally...hubby just got back from 2 weeks in the Abacos and I missed our weekend rides. During the week I just rode around our neighborhood on the mb. Today we went over to Central Ridge Park and rode the Withlachochee down to Inverness. Made a couple of little side trips..one into downtown Inverness and the other over to the park by the lake in Hernando. Total 22.1 miles and HOT!!

This week I plan on getting my new MB. I've been looking for weeks and finally decided on a Trek WSD Skye S. I love my Trek Hybrid for the paved trails but really need something better than the Diamond Back that I got just over a year ago at Dick's. Guess I have gotten spoiled. Who would have ever thought that just 2 years ago I had not even attempted to ride a bike since I was about 12 and now I have 3 of them...and getting ready to buy another.

LindaN .... Congrats on getting a new bike, always fun !!!

Well I got a ride in today that almost ended in DISASTER!! Started off riding with my friend on a rails to trails, trail from Palatka going west on SR100. Its not paved yet, just cleared and cut good for mountain bike riding. Actually pretty good riding a rocky base (leftover from the railroad) with grass growing in some areas. We got to a railroad trestle and I decided I wanted to take a picture, looked kind of cool. Took the phone out and wallet that are under the seat (take them out of the plastic bag because it looked like rain). Took a couple of pictures..... at that point the yellow flies were just buzzing around me like crazy trying to bite me. So I hurried up and put them back back under my seat, and we were off. Ended up riding about 11 miles on the trails and then another 4 miles on the road to a point where were going to get picked up. We were both toast ... burnt out at that point. Sandy stretch of trail got us. Anyway my friend says "hey the bag under your seat is unzipped"...... YEP........ I LOST MY WALLET and my iPhone on the trail someplace... I was filled with dread.... He says "we heard your phone ring a few times after the picture taking." I had decided I was NOT going to answer it and get ate up by flies... So our ride showed up and my friend got dropped off at the exit (to the one part of the trail)... and I got dropped off at the other end where we entered (the one part of the trail). All the while my mom is calling my phone as we are riding looking for it... I rode about 2 miles towards my friend while he rode about 2 miles towards me.... Found the phone in the middle of the trail as my friend came around a corner the other way.... OMG i was sooooo relieved.... By the time we got back to the van.... were were both about dead on our feet.... We had a GREAT ride right until the point where we realized I had lost my phone and wallet..... DOH! <----- in a big way.... But makes for a good story ....... in the future .... LOL

Saw 4 baby armadillos right in the middle of the trail bunched together... was kind of cool.... I had never seen a baby one before.... let alone 4 in one place..

ohhhh ended up riding almost 18 miles by the time we got done finding my wallet....

Well the same friend that said he didn't want to ride with me for awhile after yesterdays mess, decided he wanted to go on a ride today.... LOL Had to run to G.ville with my parental unit so we decided to ride the g.vill Hawthorne trail from gville back to Hawthorne. Actually started on SR24 (Waldo road) a bit west of where the trail actually starts. We were on the mountain bikes, he said if he had to ride the mtb I had to ride mine (he doesn't have a road bike lol).... Went off the trail a bit west of the G.ville trail head to show him the spring fed stream. Then we rode on to Hawthorne. Had a 10 to 15mph headwind a lot of the way.... FUN FUN FUN .... lol.... It was the first time he had rode the whole length of the trial (one way). And the first I had rode the whole length of the trail on a MTB in 3 or 4 years. Great ride, not too many yellow flies got us. Ended up riding exactly 19 miles (we did loops in the parking lot to get the 19....... LOL )......

I got 9 miles into a 25-miler and had to pull over and stop because I felt like throwing up. I sat by the side of the road for about 15 minutes, kept my lunch down, and then got back on the bike and finished the ride at a pretty slow pace. Not my best showing...

Took a detour on the way home from the flea market today and decided to ride the first paved part of the Palatka Lake Butler tail near Keystone Heights. Took the MTB because I didn't really know how long the paved part was and wanted to get a good ride in. Parked east of town at a local park that Is used as a trail head. Rode east until the pavement stopped (and a bit more)...... Rode back into Keystone Heights where I turned north on SR21 and rode north on a paved bike trail to the entrance of Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park. Quite a few hills on that part of the trial. Had a great ride felt good the whole way, even into the headwind ... lol ... Ended up riding 21.9 miles (I should have did circles in the parking lot to get to 22... lol)..... One of these days i'm going to check out the trails in the State Park.

I rode my age today (47 miles) the day after my birthday. A vast improvement over my last outing where I struggled to keep my lunch down after just 9 miles. Today was my first ride with a new stem, and I think I need to work on handlebar positioning a little more before I'll have it just right.

wow, I didn't know about this trail. So, it's not all paved? Can you give me some directions? Hubby and I now have a travel trailer and the state park you mentioned is one I've been looking into.

Haven't got my new mb yet. Had to order it yesterday and hoping it comes in before we leave next Friday. DId get in a little over 10 miles yesterday AM through some beautiful oak draped roads west of Ocala. Some pretty good hills in that ride. Today, just some tooling around on the old mb in one of the campground areas near Hernando. Tomorrow we plan on heading out towards Rodman Dam. I hear there are some mb trails out there and we're gonna check them out.

The trail that leads from Keystone Heights to the entrance of Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park is all paved and runs right along side SR21. The trail isn't really all that exciting, but I did actually enjoy the hills for some ODD reason. But it's always fun (at least to me) riding someplace new that I haven't been before.

The part of the Palatka Lake Butler trail that I rode was east of Keystone and was pretty nice kind of like the Gainesville Hawthorne trail. Some more of the trail is paved west of town, but I didn't get a chance to ride that. It did look like they are in the process of paving some more of the trail west of town though. I really enjoyed my ride down the NON paved part of the PLB (palatka lake butler) trail the other day, well right until I realized I lost my wallet and phone. The trail has really nice base NOT all sand, some leftover railroad rock, but most of that is packed down pretty nice. Parts are overgrown with grass but you can still feel the the rocky base underneath the grass. And I did find some GREAT NEWS... well great to me anyway.... They are in the process of paving another section of the trail near me, that should be done this fall. http://www.dot.state.fl.us/PublicInf...affic/two.shtm

Really easy to get to Keystone the state park and the trails though. Just come up 301 past Hawthorne to SR26 (the next traffic light). Turn east (right) on SR26, take SR26 into Melrose at the traffic light (the only one in town) turn north (left) onto SR21. Stay on SR21 north until you get to Keystone Heights. Once you get to the main light in Keystone (SR21 & SR100) keep going north for about another 6 miles and you will be at the state park. If you go either north or south on SR100 you will see the PLB trail on the north side of the road. I think I would park at one of the shopping centers to ride the PLB trail rather than where I parked. I parked at the trail head a bit east of town.... There was not another car or soul there where I parked. I didn't really like the idea of my car just sitting there with NOBODY and nothing else around. The park is nice & clean and has bathrooms and a drinking fountain..... just looked deserted..

Got out for a ride today, took the MTB and parked at the Rice Creek trail head on SR100 near Palatka. I rode around there for a little bit then decided to go ride on the PLB trail again. I rode about 8 miles north on the trail and turned around and rode about 4 miles back on the trail. At that point I was just getting way to hot so I decided to ride SR100 the rest of the way back to the car. I went through almost both bottles of water and was still feeling way to hot when I got back to the van. The yellow flies weren't as bad as last time on the trail that was a plus. Overall a really nice ride. I rode 17.71 miles. With about 13 on the trails.

LindaN ... How was the riding out by Rodman Dam? The friend that I have been riding with lately used to fish out there all the time and said we should go riding out there sometime. I have rode on the road leading to the dam a few times, but that's about it. I do ride the road bike to the north side of the bridge over the barge canal, where I turn around. I would go further sometimes but that bridge is kind of scary to ride over.. NO shoulder and always lots of BIG TRUCKS...

We ended up taking sr19 up to the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch road, turned east and went to the Buckman Dam area. I think it was called the St Johns River South Trail. Had not been there before and was hoping you could go over the lock but not so. I wanted to go to the Greenways Trails center that is there but found out later they were closed. We rode the multi use trail that ran on the south side of the Barge Canal for just a few miles. Where there wasn't sand, there were lots of cactus. It was early afternoon and not much shade so we turned around and headed back to the parking area. We did drive over to Rodman Dam but didn't ride anymore. Took one of the forest roads back to 316 and actually got some pictures of some baby black bears climbing a tree next to the road. Pretty cool. Not many miles riding this weekend. Hopefully next weekend I will have my new mb. I am going to check out the site you posted for upcoming weekend rides. THanks! Here's a pic I got of the bears.
