Only did 2 laps around Stone Mtn today. I ran into Mike (from the bike shop) and had a long conversation with him. Then headed home for a total of 33 miles.

Today’s ride:

Left the house at 6:30 AM this morning and rode with my friends Richard and Jim on the Seminole Wekiva Trail. We took the loop through Mandarin to pick up extra miles (about 4). From there it was on to Panera for breakfast. I had my usual bagel and iced tea and we topped off our water bottles for the rest of the ride. We did the scenic ride through Heathrow then Orange Avenue to Sylvan Lake road then west to the trail head. We took a short break at the trail head to see if the dark clouds were going to pass over which they did so we headed on out to the horse farms. We stopped at the turn around point for some water then headed south towards home. Along the way we stopped at Panera again and refilled our water bottles for the last part of the ride. Today was a great ride I felt like I could have done a century.

Yep..... Finally put the back wheel and chain back on the road bike and took it out for a ride today. Went and rode the PLB trail today.. Not too much smoke. It had been around 3 weeks since I rode the road bike. Kinda was weird at first lol. Ended up riding about 21 miles. Wasn't feeling all that great for the first 15 miles .... Then all of a sudden felt really good and upped my pace for the last 5 miles or so.... Good ride overall...

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 6:30 AM this morning and rode some miles before the temp got to hot. At 9 AM I met with the photographer for the Seminole Wekiva magazine to get some cycling picture taken for the July August issue about the Seminole Wekiva Trail. From there it was on to Panera for breakfast. I had a pecan roll and iced tea and then topped off the water bottles for the rest of the ride. I did the scenic ride through Heathrow as usual. It is very shady and picturesque through that area. On the way back I stopped at Panera again and refilled my water bottles for the last part of the ride. Today was a great ride I felt good but it was in the mid 90s when I got back.

It was overcast for most of my ride today so slightly cooler. Did a quick 33 miles.

Haven't been able to do more than commute lately. Today I kicked myself out of the house and ended up with a little over 23 miles. I had ambitions to do more but I wasn't sure how the ride was going to go since I left after noon in the heat of the day. A little dark cloud spit a few fat raindrops and pieces of hail on me. I guess that was the warning shot for the doom rolling through right now.

Yep..... Almost 21 miles on the road bike.. About 10 miles into a strong headwind on the way back. But at least while I was riding the wind was coming out of the west where there are NO fires. So the air was pretty clear most of the day.... until about 5pm when it changed direction and moved the smoke back in. It has been raining for about 15 minutes now as I'm typing this.... Just hoping it keeps going awhile longer.

Well, haven't been around but have been riding on the weekends. Work keeps getting in the way Mondays-Thursdays and we've been rving on weekends.
A week ago we were at Hillsborough River State park. Rode about 30 miles that weekend and found some really nice trails we might go back to. This one was in the park but went out to Dead River Road which was a shellrock road that went on for about 5 miles down to a county park along the river.

The picture above is a trail we found on the way back to the park. It was called the Old Fort King Trail. We went on part of it until it got a little muddy. Later on we took the truck out to see where it ended. It actually turned into a paved trail after about 4 miles of the muddy part. But, no shade what so ever. Maybe when it cools off a little.

This weekend we were at St George Island state Park and I got lots of miles in. Had a blast riding on the beach for about 8 miles at sunset on Friday night.

Saturday we rode into town. When you left the state park there was a paved trail that ran all the way into town (about 6 miles or so). Took a tour of the lighthouse and decided to ride back to the truck that was back at the campground and then head into town for oysters and beer for lunch. After a great lunch we headed back and decided to ride to the other end of the island.

by then it was pretty hot and as you can see, no shade what so ever. So, back to the rv and off to the beach. I think we got in about 35 miles on Friday and Saturday total.

Hubby wanted to ride the dunes Saturday night but I protested and besides, they were off limits.

Both parks had lots of places to ride (especially the mountain bikes). Hillsborough really only had 1 trail that showed as biking but luckily we found others. (We're pretty good as exploring.) St George was great for biking. Loved biking on the beach....just kinda tough getting it down to the rideable part.

Linda... Coool pictures......

Funky..... Congrats .......
Wow great ride report.... you are nucking futs .....

Yep.. Got out for a ride Sunday evening... Went to the PLB trail with the road bike. Got there about 6:30pm'ish Plan was to ride to the light in Keystone ride back to Putnam Hall (by the bar where my friend got killed in the movie LOL) And then ride on the newly paved state road 100 back to the trail head. I wanted to ride the hills on the last 4 miles back to the van. That stretch of road has one of the biggest hills around here (not counting bridges). I was feeling good the whole ride including the hill. Sooo got to the top of the hill and then went another 4 miles total to Florahome and back. GREAT RIDE... No smoke in the air either..... 20.38 miles total. I really need to get another camera mount, took the one off of the road bike and put it on the mountain bike...

Ohhh yeah... Almost nobody on the whole trail... was kind of weird usually there are quite a few people riding & walking in the evening... especially on a Sunday.. But not today...

More power to ya! Tried riding at Sand Key some while back and even with the full-on uberknobby tires on the mtn bike I spent more time climbing back on and falling over again than actually turning the cranks.

I rode only 10 miles on Father's Day in the 100 degree heat and humidity. Good ride except for pizza delivery car pulling in front of me while riding down a grade at 30 MPH.

It's good to see that some of you are still around, MRZ80, Stickman, Abracapocus and wolfpack. For those who have joined this thread recently it was started by wolfpack back in Feb.2008. Take a look at her blog when you have time it is very well written.

I don't know how you folks do it. Getting up and out by 7:30. I don't wake up until 7:30 or 8:00. Getting out that early is too much like when i was bike commuting to work.
Left this morning at 9:45. It was already 80F. Rode the Specialized. I think its adjusted as good as it will get. Did 33 miles.

Today’s ride:

Rode to the horse farms with Dick Davidson. Had breakfast at Panera as usual. Temps in the low 90s and at one point where we stopped for a rest the bike computer hit 106 degrees. However it was in direct sunlight and on hot pavement. Even with the temps as hot as they were there were a lot of riders out. Bobby from the UPS/Discovery channel 1999 team passed me twice, ran into Chuck and Jim at the Sylvan Lake Trail Head and Sue was heading out as we were coming back.

Ride statistics for: 06/21/2011

Miles today: 58+
 Mileage this month May: 812+ (on track for another 1,000 mile month)
 Mileage this year: 4789 (68.4 % of my 2011 goal)
 Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +10
 Over/under riding days June 2011 vs. June 2010: +3
 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1483 miles
 Average miles per ride this month: 50+
 Average miles per ride this year: 41+
 Number of rides over 50 miles this month/total ride days this mo. 10/16
 Metric Centuries this month: 3
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 2210, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach. Should reach my goal by mid September.
Tomorrow will be a day off.

Yep.... Rode the PLB trail from Grandin to Keystone and then the hilly sr21 up to Golds Head State Park. Got started a bit earlier than I would have liked it was still kind of hot. Got to the trail head about 5'ish. But after a few miles it clouded up some so that helped a bunch especially when I turned on to SR21 where there was NO shade. Did run into some smoke about half way to the park. Nice headwind on the way back from Keystone to where I had parked. Looked at it as a challenge today so it wasn't too bad. As I was getting back to the van I see a car with 2 bikes on the back and 2 women. As the one woman is getting out of the car she lights a cigarette.... That just kills me when I see that... here they are out to get some exercise and enjoy a ride on the trail.... and start it off with a cigarette...... ahhhhhhhhh Just made me wonder.... "will she light up on the trail while riding??"...

Anyway.... great ride today.... 30.28 miles...

Today’s ride:

Rode to the horse farms with Dick Davidson and Jim Townsend today. Had the usual breakfast at Panera, they don’t even ask me what I want anymore. When they see me coming they just automatically get me a sesame bagel and iced tea. Temps in the low 90s and at one point where we stopped for a rest the bike computer hit 108 degrees. However it was in direct sunlight and on hot pavement.

Well...... I did ride today..... Sort of.. Got dropped off in Palatka and was going to ride the NEW pavement back to the PLB trailhead in Grandin. I got about 1/2 mile down the road.. was slowing down for a light and heard the dreaded POP sound again.... Yep another spoke on the back wheel. I'm trying to remember if I teased SloSpoke a few months ago when he busted some spokes... If I did its Karma coming back to get me LOL I dunno.... For the first 6k miles on the bike I busted 2 spokes total... Now in a month I have busted 2.... I was already in town so went to the bike shop and had a new spoke installed. And bought a couple more to take home with me. Got home and was going to go to the trail for a ride.... Didn't end up going though.... it started POURING down rain (which we need BAD).... Rained for almost an hour.

Today’s ride:

Rode to the horse farms with Jim Townsend today at 7 AM. We rode the Seminole Wekiva Trail to Lake Mary and had the usual breakfast at Panera Bread. The girls that work their don’t even ask me what I want anymore. When they see me coming they just automatically get me a sesame bagel, sliced and toasted, veggie cream cheese and iced tea. From Panera we road north through Heathrow to Orange Ave then North to Wayfield Drive, crossed SR 46 and up to Seminole Heights. It was a little cooler today as opposed to earlier this week so we did manage to see some deer by the side of the road. Temps in the low 80s when we got back about 11:30 and the humidity was still pretty high at 69%. Lots of riders on the trail and the road today even with threatening skies above. We did encounter some light sprinkles but it was welcome as it served to cool us off.

Just as I turned off of SR 434 into our complex I felt my back tire shift a little bit, sure enough it was going flat. If you have to have a flat you can’t be in a better place to change it than your patio.

 Average miles per ride this year: 41.9
