The clouds parted so I headed out for my New Year's Day ride.
Rode the Supersix from home to the W trail and headed north. Didn't see many riders until I was a few miles north on the trail. I guess everyone had a late night. Stopped at the north end for water and a snack and headed home. Took a different route through my neighborhood to get back to the house.
Started out with arm warmers under a jacket and base layer undershirt. Took the jacket off at the north end. Took the arm warmers off before I got home.
Rode 36 miles.

Took the Litespeed out this time. Rode from home to the W trail and headed south. First time I've tried the new crossing at Independence Hwy. What a mess and thats being kind. Quite obvious that the DOT people didn't consult with the FL state park folks or any bicycling groups. I said screw it and rode across as usual rather than trying to negotiate the mess and continued south. Stopped at Inverness Bicycle for a few minutes then continued on to Floral City. Why is it I have a head wind when I don't want it.
Refilled my bottles at Floral City and headed north. This time when I got to Independence there was a pickup pulling a boat blocking the crossing so I crossed at the mess. Kinda scary. I ran out of energy so stopped at the farmer's market in Hernando for a snack, then headed home.
Rode 38.2 miles.

Well, it's been a long time since I posted but we are finally back on the bikes! Last August I took a spill (not on my bike) and ended up being out of pocket for a month or so. Rotator cuff surgery in late Sept but unfortunately it couldn't be reattached. But, they were able to clear up a lot of the bone fragments so the pain is pretty minimal. I can't hold much of anything up in the air but I can still ride. Last weekend rode the Withlachochee Bay Trail out in Yankeetown on Friday. Only about 12 miles but some nice hills on the east side. Then on Sunday we rode the Withlachochee trail from Inverness to Floral City and back. Maybe about 14 miles. Today we started at the park near Holder and headed to the north end and then back. Just a little over 12 miles. A little chilly at first but it warmed up nicely. Been riding some shorter routes near our house before that just to try to get back into it. Sure did feel good to get back on my bike! Tax season is here but I'm only supposed to be working 3 days a week. The key word there is "supposed". Now I'm off to check out what everyone else has been doing.

My riding this year is easy to track...three rides. I went out on New Years Day and did an easy 15 miler on the SS down on the cart paths in PTC with a friend. Yesterday I dragged that same friend out for a 17 miler from my house which is a guaranteed grind. The hill off my driveway is worse than many, GREAT for warming up right off the bat. Think I wiped him out, so no riding partner for taking advantage of this beautiful respite in the weather. Looking to do another ride tomorrow as I would like to see my mileage back up this year.

edit- Put in another 20 miles today in a lovely shifting headwind.

I did a 15 miler on Monday, the 3rd ride in the current comeback.
That elevates my total to 36 miles for the year!
Not pushing things yet, but I haven't even had to walk up any hills!

In keeping with my goal of extending mileage with each ride, I cruised 16 today.
Though I'm not pushing the speed, I averaged 13.91 on my touring bike complete
with fenders, racks, trunk bag, handlebar bag, and 32c tires.
Although that's no record, I was surprised and pleased!

Did 3 mi (my personal "each time I get on a bike" commitment) on 2 different bikes. 1.5 on my mountain bike, which just got finished so I'm so not used to it. We re-fitted my 24" previous bike for off-roading, so the seat feels really low since I'm used to a road bike. It gears down crazy low, so hills are easy so long as I partially stand. Also did 1.5 on my road bike, over 20mph the whole time on a rolling grade. That adds up to a decent day in my book.

FINALLY got a chance to ride today. Because of the wind I decided to drive to the Hernando trailhead and ride from there. Rode the Cannondale to the north end. Averaged 18-20 mph. Filled my water bottle and headed south. Averaged 11-13 mph for most to the trip. The wind was fierce today.
Rode a total of 22.3 miles.

Great ride in Peachtree City on the cart paths yesterday with a friend. There are miles and miles (and miles) of interconnecting pathways down there and we have been making a concerted effort to learn our way around beyond the marked 10K jogging path. We got lost in some new places, had a great time, and had the wife come bail us out by GPS. It was fun.
Looks like Thursday may be the only promising day for a ride in the next several weeks between cold and rain chance, so it was nice to get out.

Went for a little spin down in Tampa while I was there. It was so nice, that warm bathwater can't feel the temp kind of day. Would have been nice to have had more time for it.

Got out yesterday for a nice ride. Leaving for another one in a little bit. Glad for the warm temps but its almost too much too soon. Hope after this week it gets back to a gradual easing into spring.

I hope that many of the rest of you are able to enjoy this first long evening of the season. It is gorgeous here one day before a week or so of upcoming rain, so I plan on taking advantage of it.

Did a nice ride to prepare for the Withlacoochee Clean Air Ride thats coming up on Saturday (March 21). Rode from home to the Hernando trailhead and headed south. When I was about 3 miles south of Floral City I turned around. Saw the new restrooms they're finishing up in Floral City. Hope its ready for the ride crowds. Then headed home. Rode 40.9 miles.

Did a 24 miler yesterday on the road bike. Haven't ridden it for quite some time as I have been riding the 'bent and the SS. It was great after the first five miles of being REALLY stiff. I noted that working with the SS and the weight of my trike made the carbon bike feel like a feather. It was nice to be cruising down the road at over 5mph faster average that my normal 8-9 on the heavy bikes.
I find myself really hoping that the Spring weather will come back. It went from high 60's to high 80's right away. Not ready for that kind of heat yet.

Did a different ride yesterday. I headed out of my neighborhood and saw a cyclist crossing to the bike trail on the other side of a 4 lane "highway" (speed limit 45 mph) that runs in front of my neighborhood. I crossed over and caught up with him. Turns out he's a part time resident (3 months in the spring and and 3 months in the fall). He just turned 65 and is from Holland. He moved into my neighborhood recently so now there are 2 two cyclists in my neighborhood. We rode to Inverness at a slow pace. He has been walking for ~5 miles a day for the last few weeks but this was his first ride since lung surgery. Don't know the details.
We rode slowly to the trail and then south to Inverness. Stopped at Baxter park and rode out on the pier to see the sights around the lake.
After a short rest we rode north to Hernando and then west to our neighborhood. I was on the Cannondale and he was riding a 29er. He said he doesn't feel comfortable on a road bike or skinnier tires. We rode just under 25 miles.

He didn't want to make any commitments for our next ride. I guess I'll just stop by his condo on Monday morning to see if he wants to ride. I'll be on the Litespeed so I can ride slower and get a "workout".

I have ridden five days in a row. It finally quit raining long enough to allow it. Feels good to see the weight moving in the right direction again.

Wow. It was really nice today. The cool front that moved thru kept the temps way down. I was very comfortable but wouldn't have been too warm in a base layer undershirt for most of the ride. Hope these cool temps continue.
Did my usual 36 mile ride.

5/6....22.14 miles....1 hr 40 min....13.3 mph

Went out to Starkey Park in New Port Richey, FL about 7:00 am and connected to the suncoast trail and went north a little ways before heading back. Saw lots of deer and they were way too close!!! Great ride though. Nice and cool, not crowded.

Went up to Atlanta for a day ride yesterday on the single speed. Attempted to go out the Stone Mountain Trail for the first time but was not successful. It is all marked fairly clearly down to where Fernbank is, and then pretty much dumps you out on Ponce for a moment. Being Friday afternoon the going home traffic was feeling a bit impatient, so we decided to take off down Lakeshore and cut back across McLendon. It was overcast with no sun, I lost my way and ended up doing a big figure eight and turned off into a neighborhood after we almost got run down on DeKalb Ave. The ride back into Atlanta was pleasant as all the "in a hurry" bunch were going the other way. Ended up in Piedmont Park for a couple of well deserved drinks and riding the MARTA home with a grin and 24 miles.

If I can pull off a measly 18 miles today I finish with the best week of miles in around a year.

Things have finally gotten back to "normal" at our house so headed out for a ride. Since I've been off the bike for 3 weeks decided to do a short ride. Rode from home to the Withlacoochee Trail and headed south to the bike shop, then headed home. Rode a total of 25 miles.

Did Starkey Park yesterday, always a good ride added a few miles on the Suncoast to get about 20 miles. Saw 3 deer and later there was a fat coiled rattler in the middle of the trail another rider was going in the other direction just as we passed it on either side I dont know who was more shocked the snake or us. Anyway First time on Starkey during the week no water but great scenery.
