Gulf Shores, AL...pickup ride(s)?

I bet this forum has never seen a thread from a Northern vacationer looking for rides to participate in while they are on vacation before....

...thought I would join in.

Heading to Gulf Shores week of June 30-July 4. I am driving and bringing my rig. I plan on riding as much as I can, but it is an extended family vacation so I will need to keep it within reason.

I might try to do a century one day while I am there....hmmmm....

Basically looking for ideas on routes and possible riding partners if anyone is in the area and interested. I have checked up routes on MapMyRide and it looks like the fact that I will be near Fort Morgan pretty much ensures every ride will be 30+ miles just getting out from and back to there.

Any input is appreciated.

I think I have seen that mug on other forums Somebody inquired about routes in that area a few months ago. Actually the ride between Ft Morgan and Gulf Shores is one of the best in the area, because of the lack of traffic. It's flat, but so is everything else in the area. I'm not from there, so maybe another member will reply with other routes. Hope you enjoy your stay. The beaches and the food are great!

This is my 2nd year down there. My wife's family has been renting out the same house for 3-4 years now. Wasn't able to take my bike last time. This time with airfare being what it is it was an easy justification for driving (even with the $4.30 I'm paying for gas up here) which means I will have the bike.

I saw a lot of people riding along that road, and yes it looked extremely flat....but I'm from Chicago....I can do flat, with wind. At least this time there will be something to look at besides corn and cows.

Anyone know of a group ride during the week in the area? I could drive a ways for it if needed....for the right group.

I'll miss you by a couple of weeks. I will be in the area in the middle of the month for my family vacation. I'm getting ready to post a thread for the same info, but for more on the Florida side of the panhandle.

Gas is more in the 3.99 range down here..

Well I missed you, I was there first week of June. I took a ride to the end of Fort Morgan Road (probably a 25 mile total)

I'm trying to trown down a solo type century this weekend just to help stave off some of the excess beer and shrimp I will be consuming while there.

If no one is in then I'll just get on and go where I can....
