New exciting ride discovered for the bored Longwood Cyclisi

Longwood, FL

If you are a Longwood cyclist, you are probably familiar with the Wekiva Trail. And it's very possible you're bored of it. So am I. Today at the intersection of the trail with the EE Williamson RD I decided to take random directions and discovered this exiting new route that I'm sharing with you now.

It is really new since it uses a new bike trail section that was recently opened, like a month ago, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Starting from the intersection of the Wekiva Trail and the EE Williamson Rd it's gonna be a 32 miles round trip. Here we go:

Note: Distances are somewhat approx, since I don't have a GPS thingy, just a chepo bike computer. But they are pretty close.

* Ditch the trail and take the EE Williamson Rd to the south for like 1.3mi (towards the I-4 overpass).
* Turn right at the Rangeline Rd and go South like 0.5mi.
* Turn left on W Church Ave and follow it for like a 1.3mi.
* Turn left on W Bay Ave and go for 0.3mi.
* Turn left on N Ronald Reagan Blvd and follow it for like 2 miles.
Note: AT this point you will notice that the right sidewalk is kinda big. That's because it's a bike path. But lanes are ridiculously wide so you can share the lane with minimal issues, despite the heavy traffic of this ave.
* Turn right at the General Hutchinson Pkwy and now, get on the trail. This is a newly opened section of the Cross Seminole trail. I lost track of miles here... got way too exited about this new path. It goes east and takes you OVER the 17-92 via a brand new overpass (will take my camera next time). It then goes trough some woods and exits at the 419, by the soccer complex.
* Make a right at the 419 and follow it South for about 1.5mi (nice 3 foot wide shoulders here)
* At that point, you will see an elementary school on your left. Make a left, like if you were going to the school... just before the school entrance (kinda hidden) to your right you will see yet another trail. This is the old section of the cross Seminole Trail that will take you over 434, under 417 and all the way to Oviedo! It's about 8 more miles.

Again, the diatances are not dead accurate, but pretty close. Total distance round trip is however 32Mi, according to my cheapo cycle computer. If you start from the Sanford Trailhead at the end of the Wekiva Trail, then you will add 10 more miles each way for a good 52 miles round trip.

Good to know, at the Oviedo end, there's a convenience store and a mall with some fast foods... in case you need to refill. Happy riding!
