Lake Cumberland Loop Ride

Looking for some help from anybody who lives and rides near Cumberland or who has ridden while vacationing there.

A year ago I was on a houseboat weekend at Dale Hollow, and since I don't ski like the rest of the group, I took my bike and spent a Saturday riding a 100 mile route around the entire lake. Start/Finish was at Sunset Marina.

This year, the trip is at Lake Cumberland instead, going from Grider Hill. I'd like to do the same thing, and the 'best' route I can come up with is 111 miles, and is a lot more on major roads. My basic plan is to start riding fairly early, going clockwise by starting north on 127, then taking minor roads east loosely paralleling Cumberland Pkwy. Then a long afternoon coming across the south side of the lake on 90.

My question is what are those roads like? Are they safe enough to travel by bike on a Saturday in late August? The clockwise route looks like this:

I live an hour or more away, but I wouldn't think 127 would be a good idea (unless it has a good shoulder). The bike shop in London, Ky may have some useful info. I would google and call them. Good luck, Wilson.

Updated plan. I found out that we won't be going back to the same dock where we take the houseboats from. We will get provisions from a different location, Beaver Creek Dock. That gave me the idea to ride over to Cumberland Falls SP instead of doing a lake loop.

I figure I'll do the northern half first, as 90/27 will be the busier road, perhaps not as busy early in the morning. Then I'll come back on 92.
