Tips for moving to Jacksonville, FL

I'm moving to Jax soon from Michigan (next weekend actually), and have a "critical" tough choice to make I can only take 2 bike with me right now. I know I'm bringing my road bike, but should the second be the TT bike, mountain bike, or fixie/commutter?

I guess moving down not knowing anyone there, I'm wondering how popular are different types of riding. Are there places that warrant a mountain bike down there? Are there groups of triathletes or TT junkies that have regular training rides that will make me wish I had the TT rig? Is my fixie with lights & fenders going to be missed around town and along the beach?

My apartment is in Ponte Vedra, and I work downtown, so riding to work isn't really an option, otherwise the commutter would be the obvious choice...

Any tips on riding around Jacksonville?

Welcome to town. How far down in Ponte Vedra will you be? The TT will be a nice ride down to Villano Beach, about 40 miles round trip ride down the coast. Beautiful ride, but can be windy right off the ocean. You have some fairly nice area's to ride where you are going to be, but you are correct, commuting to down town, is not real viable.

Some mountain biking, but nothing real serious, unless you go to Hanna park up near Mayport Naval Station or down to Santos in Ocala. Super nice place and worth a trip, but not a daily thing. I don't do a lot of MTB so not up on all the locals, check with one of the LBS in the beach area. American Bike up near Beach Blvd and 3rd Street (A1A). Quite a few Tri's here, cheeck Performance MultiSports. I have a friend of mine that is into Tri's in a major way, I will shoot her a message and see if I can get any info. The fixie will be nice in your area and perfect for the beach area as well. Hell, just bring them all as they can all be used.

Also, check this out.https://www.jacksonville.com/tu-onlin...36991113.shtml

Thanks for the tips! I'll be staying pretty much right at the corner of the JTB and A1A.

All the bikes are coming eventually, but just 2 in this first trip down. I didn't realize how full the tri calendar is down there. Very impressive! I think it might have to be the TT.
