Hey Ed, have you contacted the Coastal Bicycle Touring Club (http://www.cbtc.org/CBTC/Welcome.html) or the Savannah Wheelman? I couldn't find a website for them but if you do a search you may at least find some contact info.
If you don't mind a short drive there's a good group in the Vidalia area. Every May they hold the Sweet Onion Century which I rode in 2001 (http://www.letsride.net/).

Yep, have contacted and ridden with them. Most of the riders in that group are experienced riders.

Since I'm no longer working, I'm hoping to find someone at my skill level (Mileage, speed and accomplishment) to ride with on weekdays in my quest to improve my distance and ultimately, speed.

My wife and I, along with a couple of friends, will ride at Vidalia.

I just had an Artery procedure to unblock my left leg and I need to build my stamina.

I'll ride alone if need be, but I'd sure like to find a partner.

I'm not in Savannah but you and I have some things in common. I'm a 66 yo newbie whose been showing up to ride with groups for a few months. When I first went out with the group I was riding a Navigator and they took pity on me and slowed down. Now that I've upgraded my ride to a carbon fiber Lemond they're just pounding me but every time I show up I seem to find another friend and mentor. I rode yesterday with an experienced rider who's 70yo and the only reason I was able to keep up with him is he's having some health issues of his own and the cable to his rear derailer broke and he had to do the hills in the smallest chain ring on the rear. But I learned so much during the 49 mile pounding I took and I looking forward to the next opportunity to ride with him again. There are some real advantages to riding with the experienced folks even if you suffer from the humiliation of being dropped with some regularity. Not the least of which is I've made some friends with folks who don't ride any faster than me.:)

Maybe I'll get lucky like you did and find someone to train with...

Same here. Why don't you drive up here the even weeks and we'll ride my routes and the odd weeks I'll drive down there and ride your routes. ;)

Ron, I might very well take you up on that offer. Give me a couple of weeks and we can exchange PM's and info for just such an arrangement.

I was just kidding. :rolleyes: I'm still working part time (two-three half days a week) at the bike shop and I doubt if my wife would go for the idea. She's now retired and has lots of projects for me. I have to squeeze riding into my "new" schedule. :eek:
But if you want to come up here and ride on the days I'm not working that's ok. You'll have to wait a few more weeks. My shoulder doc still has me on the trainer. No riding until the first week of April and that will be only on the bike path. I can get back to regular riding the first week of May. :o

Well, I have to ride and build up some Stamina myself. My wife and I are going to come up to that area soon and ride the Comet (I hope).

Just curious, my wife has a friend who works at one of the Bike shops up there and I'm curious at which shop you work?

It isn't out of question for me to make a weekday trip up to the Atlanta area to do some riding. So, we might well work that out.

Are you riding the full length of the SCT? Be sure to bring your passport so you can cross into Alabama and continue on the Chief Ladiga trail.

I work at Intown Bicycles near Virginia-Highland and Piedmont Park.

Maybe later in the year after I get some miles/stamina built up. We'll probably do a 20 mile out and 20 mile back from the trailhead when we come up there in the Spring.

Do you have a Professional Fitter at your shop? Or, is that you?

I think that "fit" on a bike is somewhat akin to surgery. The first guy probably knows what he is doing, but it's good to get a second opinion.
