West Volusia County Florida Riding

Newbie here trying to figure out where to ride. Idealy, I would like to ride from my house in Orange City, FL, but the local roads are crazy and the Volusia County MPO Bicycling Map doesn't make any sense to me. The Spring to Spring trail looks promising, but is incomplete.

I work in Lake Mary and see everyone riding the Seminole Wekiva Trail from the office which would be nice to ride after work, but not sure where everyone is parking. I don't see any parking at the northern trailhead. Do you pick any parking lot along the way to start from and just go?

slider, if you want to ride the Wekiva Trail park in the Winn Dixie Parking lot @ Lake Mary Blvd and International Pkwy. or across the street @ I think they call it the Oaks Mall. there is a Davids World Bike Shop at that location and a Panera Bread. Just park on the outer edges of the lot and you will not have any problems. From their you can ride 7 miles to the south or 6 miles to the north. There is a trail head just south of Lake Mary Blvd on Markum Woods road it is called Jones Loop Trail Head. If you are looking for mileage go south on the trail and turn into Mandarin Estates (no traffic) you can ride a 7 mile loop the get back on the trail. There is also a trailhead at the north end and the south end of the trail with parking. If you need any additional info PM me. I will be glad to assist.

That is the parking lot I was eyeing up over by Davids Cycle. It is pretty full most of the time. There is also a large empty parking lot on the other side of Walgreens around the looptie loop. I just ordered my Trek today. It should be here by the weekend. I guess I just need to get out and ride once it gets here to see where everything is at. I was just checking out the trailheads on Google Maps and didn't see anything at the northern trailhead up by Sylvan Park.

At the northern end of the trail (13 mile marker) there is a nice trail head with parking, restrooms, water and some shade. good luck with your bike and enjoy the ride. I road the trail today and made a point to check the cross street where th Jones trail head is located. it's at the intersection of Markum Woods and Long Pond. Drive south on Markum Woods from Lake Mary Blvd about 1 1/4 miles it will be on your left. Your car will be in the shade and stay cool while you are baking in the sun.

There is pretty good cycling up in West Volusia County. The Florida Freewheelers site should have some maps for up there. One is called Romp to Seville.

As mentioned above, there is a good parking area at the nw terminus of the Seminole Wekiva Trail. It is not huge but I have never seen it full.

Thanks for the tip Pat. It looks like the Deltona ride is just a mile or two from the house. I can't imagine riding on the local roads, but I will give it a shot.

Slider,

I have only done that ride on Sundays, so I bet the traffic is lighter than. I have quite a bit of experience riding on roads. If you don't like the feel of the traffic, I would suggest that you don't do it. You are supposed to enjoy this.

Not sure about the traffic. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Did my first 16 miles today starting from David's Cycle. Nice ride except for the sulfer water out of the drinking fountain down by the Westmonte Park/436 trailhead.

Did 17.6 from my front door yesterday. Went to the Spring to Spring trail starting at Blue Springs then around the Lake Beresford Park. It is a very nice trail. HWY 17-92 wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. It actually has a bike lane as well as French Ave out to Blue Springs.
