Any Florida Suncoast Trail riders up for a late June century?

I've been trying to do at least 1 century per month and would love to do one non-solo.

I have the last weekend in June open for anyone interested in joining me. I average around 18 mph when I ride the SC Trail, but I'm more than willing to go slower or try to keep up with a faster pace.

May be a bit of a jaunt for you and it's "just" a Metric, but the location is a great place to ride:

Thanks for the info- you're right, it's a little far for me to drive.
I'm always whupped after a century and never in the condition to drive that far.

Here's a few links to the Suncoast Trail. North of SR 50 to 98 has some nice rolling hills.

Same - could probably generate some interested people. I'm not directly in the area right now, but give a date as well as a proposed start time, and I'll check with a few that aren't forum followers, who knows, maybe a few more can make it up that way.

It's a 10 or 12' wide paved trail fenced off from the road. The only traffic is other bikes.

Oh man that looks nice, are there places to stop for water? I would really like to do that ride. Is it 50 miles out and back or 100 miles start to finish?

42 miles from Lutz Lake Fern Rd to SR 98, so 84 out and back. Yes, there are several covered picnic table/igloo cooler stops, but don't assume they will have any water in them. During a busy weekend, you might hit an empty cooler before the county replaces it, so be prepared.

Part of the trail are very close to the Suncoast Pkwy and only separated by a fence, but that doesn't bother me a bit. I've learned to tune that out and enjoy the ride.

I'm sorry to everyone for not responding sooner- I just got the email update for this thread.
If anyone is still interested, I'm up for riding on 6-20, 6-21, 6-27, or 6-28. With the weather the way it is at this time of year I'd like to leave no later than 7:00am.

A little info on the trail-

The trail is 42 miles long and I usually make up the extra mileage by doubling back at the Northern end of the trail where it's pretty hilly (for Florida), or taking the Starkey Park cut off loop near the southern end.

Water on the trail is pretty plentiful on the southern half of the trail but is sporadic in Northern Pasco/Hernando- though there is a nice rest area near SR 50 with restrooms and water fountains. I usually drink one bottle per hour and have never run out.

An added bonus- I have family that live in Hernando county who are more than willing to meet us at one of the rest stops to bring food/water.

Now that there's interest, I'll make sure I now follow this thread closer-

Chris

Sent a note out to a few of the people I usually ride with and copied a link to the string here. I'm off on a short trip through the end of the month and can't. Can't guarnatee anything, but perhaps a few of those I ride with are willing to join up with you.

This seems most interesting but perhaps out of my league - just back to cycling for 4 months - and am 56 - I could average 16-17 without a head wind - but my personal ride record (last week) is only 34 miles - around tampa - ... sounds like I better rehearse a bit more. -

Due to an injury to a tendon behind my knee I won't be able to ride the trail this weekend (or ride at all for a week or two according to the PT).

It's depressing.

Ouch! Now that is very depressing.

Thanks for the idea, though. I was not aware of the Suncoast Trail. Next time I visit my family in Clearwater I will have to see if I can get some miles in on the trail.

I've never ridden that trail, in fact I haven't ridden in the Pasco County area for years but if you get something going again, send me note; I'd be interested.

Can't manage a century right now but...

I just wanted to toss out there, I am not up for a century but I like to do rides on the Parkway Trail. (I put out at Lutz Lake Fern). I av. 15-16 MPH and would be up for shorter rides if anyone is interested (30-60 mile rides).

May be shooting for a century for the Tour De Cure which is going to be over in Ft. Desoto park in March. (First though, have to get through knee surgery end of August). Anyone here doing that Tour ride? I've done them for the last 4 years (including the ride from hell this past March!) Would like to do some training rides for it on the Parkway Trail, and would be up for company. Anyone interested let me know! I'll be up for riding (though I need to nurse my knee a bit) till end of August, then will be grounded for a while but hopefully will be back on the bike in a month.

Sure will be doing that ride! Haven't missed one in the past 4 years myself. Good luck on the surgery, and please don't rush back in too quickly - give it plenty of time to heal. August is a bad month for riding here anyway

I would be willing to do a century. I may try one first to see if I can even make it. Although 18 average may be a bit high for me. I currently ride 15 to 25 a day tarpon to Dunedin or more given the time I may have. I usually ride solo used to do some group rides with suncoast cyclery but havn't in a while.

Ktrsa5, this is a 4 year old thread, I will say welcome to BF, from another Florida rider, though. Maybe you can generate the interest for another century ride, try a fresh thread.
