Hilton Head Island?

I will be traveling to Hilton Head Island for holiday in June and plan on taking my road bike. Does anybody have any ride suggestions or cue sheets? I have never been there and don’t know the area. Thanks in advance for your help. Happy Memorial Day to all!

When I was there last year I just rode along the main road. However, there is a shop in the area that has group rides that I found by searching online.

And if push comes to shove, although it's nicer talking to someone who's done it firsthand, mapmyride.com lists some 287 rides for the area.

mrhlynnu,

I've done the Tues and Thurs 6pm group rides from The Bike Doctor (Mathews Drive) when I'm there on vacation. The group was diverse so it ranged from 15mph to maybe 19-20, can't remember.

There are routes that get you off the bike paths AND off 278 (the main drag), using Marshland Road which is 2 lane / low traffic.

Of course you can go all day and all night on the bike paths as well, but they're not really suited for a roadie, too congested with slower bike and foot traffic.

Have fun!
